Do you think Balkans are evolving into City States?

This Picture made me think that only the cities are growing while towns are dying out. Many countries already house half their population in the capital+surrounding areas. Do you think there will be programs to repopulate the towns or does your government already do something about it? Or do you think this is the only way small nations survive against bigger economies?

Entirely dependent on jobs in the area. This is further fueled by state sponsored projects. Otherwise abandoned villages and towns are normal. No jobs in the region empties towns fast.

Wtf? Why only Brčko is growing in Bosnia?

In Bulgaria we have this saying Sofia is not Bulgaria when someone from sofia says something that applies only for the capital.

Sofia is full of peasants and the villages are full of urban people

I wouldn't say so in Greece. There is a general decline in life quality for sure I can't deny that, but it isn't because everyone is moving to the cities. Especially now that rent and such in cities has risen so much.

are you sure? Doesnt Athens inofficially house 4M people?
vaniot2@reddit
Yeah it's true. But it isn't because of the influx of people. This happened a few decades ago. We're now at the point where it isn't sustainable for a lot of people and they are looking to their family roots for solutions.

Actually Athens has 35% of Greece's population but 50% of the national gdp.

Greece is strange a lot of people work in the tourism sector for 5-6 months somewhere then the rest in Athens or Theselonici etc.
Greeks correct me if I'm wrong.

I can say about Hungary that Budapest definitely feels like a city state.

That's hilarious 🥲😂

In a diplomatic way I could say, they make sure that traditions are not forgotten and washed out by Western propaganda.

does east hungary actually feel empty?
Hopeful_Addition7834@reddit
Yes. I actually have family there. There are oligarch people, professional athletes, and modern day peasants.
I would say, imagine a "level jump" from Copenhagen to Berlin, Berlin to Budapest, then Budapest to Eastern Hungary. About that much difference.
And Budapest is already quite crappy. Like they built something 100 years ago, then all investment capital was pulled out.
