Did I imagine a museum?

Does anybody else remember there being some kind of tiny museum on Grainger Street in Newcastle, opposite where Forbidden Planet is? It was full of things like buttons and old clothes, and the kind of bottles you find in old tips. There's never any mention of it on local Facebook groups or anything, and none of my friends remember it. I'm starting to think it was just a really vivid dream.

I remember this place, the name jumped into my head and it's trying to surface but just won't. Was like a rabbit warren of little antique shops with the stuff you describe and I remember there was a vintage clothes shop on the right when you first went in.
I remember my dad bought the clock on my parents mantle piece there and I used to buy silver charms for a charm bracelet I had.

Think that's the entrance, but it was called something else.

Yes! That's exactly how I remember it. All narrow passageways and barely any natural light. One of those places where the outside of it gave no real indication of what it was like inside. The toon used to be so much more interesting when it was full of little independent places like that.

I know, but it doesn't let you crosspost to it. Shame, because obviously other people do remember it being there. At least now I know I didn't imagine it

Not sure if this is what you're thinking of but I remember reading something recently that opposite Forbidden Planet there was a little bit of an indoor arcade place with little shops. I can't for the life of me remember the name of it, but I think if you look on Google Street View the red doors across the road were the entrance to it. I think the building is called Victoria Buildings.

You're probably right about the building, it was definitely bigger than it looked from the outside, but if you go back as far as you can on Google street view there's this place slightly further down from those red doors, and I think that might have been the entrance to it, because I remember it being green, but I'm pretty sure it was called something else. Something ending with centre seems to ring a bell, but that's about as close as I can get to remembering the name.

Are you not thinking of a tat shop of some kind? Could be one of those junk/curio places?
Best_Personality5814@reddit (OP)
Maybe. I don't really remember if any of the stuff was for sale or not. I seem to have a vague recollection of paying a quid to get into part of it.

Nope. There's lots of museums in Newcastle but nothing like you describe on Grainger Street.
Do you remember it being there in a specific period of time? If you can think of a rough year you think it existed I can work out what shops were close to the Forbidden Planet store you mention and see if you were just misremembering one of the many charity shops along that stretch of road, since a couple of them in the past did have a facus on older more vintage items from memory.
Your other idea of it being a vivid dream is entirely possible too though. I've imagined random places and then when I return some time later am scratching my head at the fact that it doesn't exist despite being convinced it was there. Then when I searched it, sure enough it never existed at all.

It would have been maybe 1999/2000. The thing that I remember most clearly was looking at all the old bottles.
