I switched to linux one year after getting a win 11 laptop for school, even that one year was too much

My son is about to buy a laptop for college. He's been advised to run Win11 for the first year just in case some windows-only apps are required by any of his classes.
I'm ok with this advice, but so far I haven't seen any evidence that he'll need anything windows-specific.

He could always run Windows as a virtual machine within Linux.

Not on all laptops i tried but it lags out and it's not able to run the apps I need, also it drains battery fast

Older laptops might struggle, but I definitely concur with you on the battery draining faster.

Yes, that would work. I think we have several options and he's a smart kid. He'll come up with something.

Congratulations! Enjoy your journey, may knowledge be with you...
GNU/Linux is a lifelong hobby of investigation and discovery. Back in the day when I used a certain proprietary os, every morning when I booted my computer, I would always wonder what was going to crash or break that day. It was disparaging, and made me loath technology instead of embracing it.
With GNU/Linux, you will embrace it and everything all which it encompasses, and not look back... or so this is our hope... :)
