Make it equal for everyone: let's drain the Strait of Hormuz

The US and Iran fighting over use of the Strait? Let's just drain it completely so everyone misses out equally.

I think we should just give three nukes to every country. Level the playing field.
PawPawsLilStinker@reddit
Hell yes, that's a great idea. Might be easier to fill it in though

Nothing better for thirsty people than ocean water (bonus; ocean water with lots of oil slicks)

TBF, this is basically what is happening. They are shifting to pipelines over tenuously-located ports.

I feel like you’ve gone straight past crazy ideas and gone into “ideas like I’m five years old.”

Like, "fuck it, I'm not going to look up what the Straight of Hormuz is. I'm not even going to look at a picture of it."
Mundane-Caregiver169@reddit
All I know is- Hormuz must have a very high LGBTQ population if you can say, The Straight of Hormuz and everyone automatically knows who you’re talking about.
reheateddiarrhea@reddit
Hahaha! Well, I sure do look like a fucking idiot now. I'm leaving it though so that I can wallow in my well deserved shame while others point and laugh.

Worked for the PDF in charge

It's easy, really. Just reverse global warming and induce a new ice age. Sea level will drop and the straight will close. Likely, people will have stopped using oil anyway to fix global warming, so they won't even mind the straight being closed.

Are you a Dad who takes the family on road trips often? Cuz you sound like a Dad who takes his family on road trips often. ; )
Xylus1985@reddit
Why not just get the Chinese to build railroad to bring the oil out. They are good with building railroads
PanchoVillasRevenge@reddit
And Mexico will pay for it
tocksin@reddit
How about just make it impossible to cross. Mine it. Fill it. Sure it’ll be expensive to put alternatives in place, but it will solve the problem. This isn’t so crazy an idea.
drhelt@reddit
This would be impossible. You'd have to lower the world's ocean level by 200 feet. Congratulations, you've put forth the dumbest idea thus far. And that's saying something.
Longjumping_Rule_560@reddit
At its widest point the strait of hormuz is about 50 km wide.
That’s a bit under half the length of the Afsluitdijk which the dutch used to turn the South Sea into lake IJsselmeer… almost a hundred years ago. In the end they decided against draining the entire south sea, but it was the original plan, and about a third was eventually reclaimed.
If you ask the dutch nicely, and give them a shitload of money, i am sure they’d pull it off. Just don’t expect it to be done quickly.
Still a dumb idea though.

i feel like there should be a dedicated wooosh sub for people who complain about how dumb an idea is on r/crazyideas

Then, bring back Wells Fargo and start shipping oil and other goods in wagon trains. Might even get Rowdy Yates to help.
Drugba@reddit
Iran put some mines in there and now they get to use it.
What if we just let everyone put some mines in there and then we can all use it!
SpeedyHAM79@reddit
This has to be one of the least informed ideas I've ever seen. Just wow.
BobDobbsHobNobs@reddit
Nice try, Moses. Not falling for that one again!
AnotherCanuck@reddit
Sure, why not? This isn’t any stupider than what’s already happening there.
Odin043@reddit
You show me where the plug is and I'll drain it myself
Poverty_Shoes@reddit
It can’t be drained because it’s connected to all the other oceans, so you’d need to build a permanent dam south of it and pump all the water out. You also can’t really use salt water in agriculture because salt is really bad for crops for a reason I can’t remember (where the phrase “salt the earth” comes from). This is one of the craziest ideas I’ve seen posted, I love it!
