Of course knives totally beat guns when your less than 6 meters. Even if the gun is loaded, safety is off, there's a bullet in the chamber, and it's a 2v2 scenario where only one person on each side is armed. The knife's magnetic field would win.
Dog, it's not just less than 6m. It's a knife pressed against your back. In the time it would take to aim and pull the trigger you'd have a blade in you.
If they stab you you lose. It doesn't matter if you don't instantly die, you are going to bleed a fuckload. Who cares if you shoot them if you die of bloodloss in the ambulance 10 minutes later
Except that makes a large assumption that the person is incapable of pivoting and moving their body
Unless the person with a knife is a mind reader, they would have to react, and depending on the situation, it is absolutely possible to create distance while pivoting the body to aim. People are making it sound like the only way to shoot the people with the knife is to stand in one spot and do a 360, but that's probably not the case. If the person with the gun can aim and shoot at their S/O, it's likely they had space in front of them. So that means you can move forwards while twisting, thereby creating space between them and the knife.
Of course, this is all hypothetical, but if someone puts a knife in my back and said "Shoot her or I'll kill you", I'd 100% try to point the gun at them because assuming they aren't lying, the outcome is you're gonna die regardless if you refuse to shoot, so to not even try shooting the attacker is literally just a waste since the outcome would be the same whether you tried to or not
but if someone puts a knife in my back and said "Shoot her or I'll kill you", I'd 100% try to point the gun at them
You don't even know how you'd react because the most stressful situation you've ever been in was getting a customer's order wrong at Wendy's. Guarantee you'd panic and/or freeze
A dude with a knife that close to you it's impossible to handle without you getting hurt or killed.
When I got a bit obsessed with the SWAT tactics basically everything I've read, viewed or heard is basically that a knife at 5m is way deadlier than any gun you can imagine.
MythBusters covered the drill in the 2012 episode "Duel Dilemmas". At 20 ft (6.1 m), the gun-wielder was able to shoot the charging knife attacker just as he reached the shooter. At shorter distances the knife wielder was always able to stab prior to being shot.
Your premise is bad because the drill you mentioned is put into the perspective of law enforcement, where you are NOT allowed to engage unless you are given a green light or have legal reasons to
I guarantee you, 10/10, if I use my rifle and you use a knife, you start at 5m and I fire at you the moment let's say a whistle goes, you are dead 10/10 times, because I don't need a reason to shoot you, I just will. This does not apply to law enforcement, where like i said, you have to REACT
You're right behind me holding the knife. I don't have to turn and aim. I just have to point the gun over my shoulder.
Do this: Put your fingers in the shape of a gun like you used to when you were a kid playing. As fast as you can, point your finger gun directly over your shoulder and shout 'bang'
That can happen before the knife holder realizes he needs to do anything.
Do this: Put your fingers in the shape of a gun like you used to when you were a kid playing. As fast as you can, point your finger gun directly over your shoulder and shout 'bang'
Uh, did you try this yourself? It takes longer than pushing a knife forward (the guy with the knife to your back is going to pay very, very close attention to what you do with it). It's also very difficult to make sure you are aiming right at a person-sized target standing out of sight behind you. And that's assuming they would go down immediately when shot and not lash out with the knife, hurting you so badly that you die of blood loss later.
Now imagine that instead of debating on Reddit after mulling over the hypothetical you are instead in real life, trying to weigh these options while your life and the life of your loved one are hanging in the balance.
Anyone who judges someone for not trying to Rambo themselves out of that shit is insane.
Even so, you have another guy nearby. He might have a gun too even if he hasn't pulled it yet. It's certainly possible to fight your way out, but it could go either way if the attackers were committed.
I'm not exactly a badass, far from it. I'm very conflict averse, never voluntarily been in a fight, never want to. That being said, if given the order to shoot a loved one in such a scenario, I'd likely freeze at first, and if continually threatened/goaded, probably lash out. That's what's happened in scenarios where I've been credibly threatened before. That's probably a fairly likely reaction from anyone untrained if you threaten them with deadly force.
The person with the knife needs to react to you moving. So he has to notice you doing it first. It takes .25 seconds to react at best. You aren't missing a human sized target behind you.
You could also bash em with the gun. It's a much less precise movement than aiming in movies so it'd probably be quicker. Pistol whipping isn't like in the movies. It's a heavy block of metal, it'll split your face open real quick if you do it with any force. Police have done it to suspects to get em to comply and been surprises with the damage it does. It'd at least give you an opening to shoot.
I prefer the fake stories where some effort is put in. This one's the same of that sketch about two robbers giving the mother a gun and telling her to pick one of her children to shoot, otherwise both would be shot.
She picks one, gun is unloaded. Robbers takes the gun out of her hand, says "do whatever you guys want with that information" then runs away.
Why would they just be like “haha okay you didn’t shoot her we will let you go” only to then do the same thing to a woman who witnessed the entire interaction, and why would she then expect it to be real
Never assume a female is unarmed or passive. I remember the story of an armed robber who held up a couple in a parking lot, but he put all his attention on the man, and she was the one who shot him.
Yeah except it's jeopardy and practically nobody has a working knowledge of human emotions. Just like 4chan! There's a reason why this post got updooted 🙈
This is a shitty rewritten version of an anton chekov short story where an apple orchard owner threatens to sick his dog on two teenagers and makes them betray each other.
Anon is rartded anyway, why does he think the guy would prefer to be stabbed than to shoot his wife but wouldn't accept his wife stabbing him to prevent herself being stabbed? Obviously the man's revealed preference is that if one of them has to die he would rather it be himself.
Good job you really opened up his eyes to his and his wife's goals aligning.
In this context, we already know the victim is accepting OP's terms.
But only a cuck would let someone hold a weapon to them and dictate terms in the first place. If someone's got you at gunpoint/knifepoint and you've given them your wallet and they're still making you do things like this, they're a psycho trying to play games with you, so you should accept your imminent death and do your best to take them with you.
Years later, anon would have brain surgery to fix how stupid he is. In order to operate on a brain, you need to make sure you aren't messing with the wrong bits, which is why you see people playing violin in viral videos about brain surgery. Anyways, the surgeon recognized anon and handed him a gun to play Russian roulette with while he was operating. He was very lucky during the whole procedure. The surgeon could see the bullet was one chamber off a few times, and like the expert surgeon he was, he worked anon's brain like a marionette when he noticed it was chambered, having him spin it more. In the final few stitches, the surgeon pressed his scalpel against anon's back and told him to aim the gun at the assistant that had their back turned. He did so, and pulled the trigger. The body collapsed and twisted onto anon. It was himself in scrubs. "Doc. I don't understand." "Who do you think donated the brain?" And the surgeon held the mirror up to anon. He was the wife of the couple he mugged. The surgeon took off his mask, and it was the husband. Anon didn't know why, but it just felt right, and he began kissing the surgeon passionately.
