Is this noise seriously from fair park???

People in Junius saying it's shaking their couches. We're in wilshire and it sounds like someone next door is blasting a sound system. I'm fine with usual events but I've lived here over 10 years and never heard anything this intrusive that's bothering people over 5 miles away... like I've never heard anything from fair park this far away. Nothing anyone here can do anything about but I'm just wondering what is going on.
Illustrious-Ad5575@reddit
Live in the heart of Downtown. Don't hear a thing.
GodofAeons@reddit
I'm wondering if its because the insulation and skyscrapers being able to essential act like absorption boards?
Illustrious-Ad5575@reddit
Im on the south end of downtown. No skyscracpers at all.
Clear shot to Fair Park.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Well people from junius up to flag poll heard it and trust me there's nothing going on at white rock lake, and it stopped when the event was suppose to stop. No clue how you didn't hear it but everyone else in a 10 mile radius did.
ivb107@reddit
I did not and I’m 3 miles away. Stop it.
Rakebleed@reddit
Buildings blocking the noise?
PresidentBaileyb@reddit
Yeah I’m in Victory Park and there’s no noise
jwfowler2@reddit
What!?
ivb107@reddit
Sheesh these people complaining about some distant noise that ended at 11pm on a Friday night seriously need to relax.
Get out of your house, find a hobby, go on a trip.. do something for yourself and learn to live a little. Don’t take your pathetic complaints to flood 911 when the authorities have real issues to deal with.
Historical-Box-516@reddit
I heard it’ll happen again tonight. Breakaway Fest@ Starplex🙄
Vinylforvampires@reddit
favorite thread ever
i bet so many people that are complaining are the same ones that act all high and mighty of the suburbanites here.
I hope Breakaway goes harder tonight lmao
Competitive_Cheek607@reddit
I swear it just got louder
PresidentBaileyb@reddit
Got louder at 10 for the closing set. It’ll be over at 11
Other-Grapefruit-880@reddit
“This one goes to 11”
smitaxe@reddit
Yall are in for a treat because its a 2 day festival
Austin_Stoner@reddit
I'm over in Old East Dallas, and my windows are literally shaking in the frames. It's definitely a breakaway at Fair park.ive lived here a long time, too, but this is next level
Fit_Taro_3876@reddit
pls this is a 2 day event that ends at 11pm i promise yall will be okay. maybe come today to enjoy the fun with the rest of us
PenelopeJude@reddit
Had to go to Nextdoor site to find out. Peso Pluma at Dos Equis. Apparently, they are playing tomorrow night too.
SupernovaTraveller@reddit
Pretty sure it’s Breakaway Festival at Fair Park
electricgotswitched@reddit
RIP the ear drums of everyone in attendance. Free lifetime tinnitus!
Gijora@reddit
WHAT?
I CAN'T HEAR YOU
maddjointz@reddit
EeeeeeeeEeeEeeEeeeeEeeeEeeeeeeEEEEee
Necoras@reddit
I blame my tinnitus on the drum core marching through the hallways every Friday morning in Highschool. That plus mandatory pep rallies.
"School spirit" is dumb.
maddjointz@reddit
I blame mine on the two Kenwood 12s I had jammed into the trunk of my tiny 93 Honda Accord in highschool lol
Apprehensive-Taco406@reddit
EEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
I'm wondering what the db was of that but I'm not smart enough to figure it out and bass carries differently than other freqs but it had to be over 120 to hear it this far away, definitely over 100, on top of disturbing the city they're going to give a lot of people hearing damage. I love loud concerts but there's a limit that you're not even enjoying music you're trying to keep your organs from shaking apart.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
There's no way this was approved
PresidentBaileyb@reddit
It was. It’s once a year and ends at 11
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
I have never heard anything this loud in the 10+ years I have lived in this neighborhood. This isn't once a year, the event might but this year was way too loud. I've been at festivals that were less loud on prem than this is 5 miles away.
WatercressTrue3861@reddit
The combination of humidity and low cloud coverage from the rain/right after the rain helped the sound (specifically the bass) carry even further.
I was on the side of the stage there and it wasn’t any louder than any event I’ve been to. I always wear earplugs but I’d bet today won’t be near as loud.
Froggie56@reddit
Well it’s past 11 now lol
KelleyElsie@reddit
I’m in Oak Lawn and can hear it. I thought it was someone having a party up the block.
How are people actually AT the venue able to handle that amount of noise? Their hearing must be destroyed.
electricgotswitched@reddit
Can you hear audible music or just deep bass? Bass will travel wayyyyy further than the highs and kids.
KelleyElsie@reddit
Basically deep bass. And it wasn’t LOUD - it wasn’t something I’d really complain about. But I could definitely hear it. It’s unusual to hear music playing in my neighborhood so it was noticeable to me.
Empress_Clementine@reddit
Same, I heard it (barely) but it wasn’t something I’d complain about. Was just curious where the sound was coming from.
QThirtytwo@reddit
I heard music and bass. I’m south of white rock lake.
Snarky_Survivor@reddit
What does it sound like?
tigers018@reddit
It’s insane, can hear it by flag pole hill
AeskulS@reddit
I live close by and thought it was a neighbor blasting music lol. I also heard kids making sound outside, so I thought they were a part of the party. They probably just went outside to see what the sound was.
electricgotswitched@reddit
Damnit I'm just East and couldn't hear it. Might have missed it went out at 11 on the dot
mattalat@reddit
Is that wtf I'm hearing in white rock valley? I thought the neighbor kids were having a party
OhGodImHerping@reddit
Same!! The bass is insanely loud
Pumpnethyl@reddit
Low frequencies below 120hz are non-directional

I was across the street at mcdonalds. The noise made me poop my pants
jimmywatters@reddit
Oakcliff here I feel like I’m at Coachella and I’m sad cause I’m not drunk or on molly for this bass
Perfect_Evidence@reddit
I wish I was at Coachella too 😭

ApprehensiveAnswer5@reddit
FWIW, when the conditions are just right, you’ll hear all kinds of concerts.
I lived in Junius Heights, on the side near Woodrow, for the longest until we moved two years ago, and we had many a warm night that you could sit around the fire pit and hear the music clearly like it was just a block over.
Good times. Lol
Lexxias@reddit
You are why we can't have nice things
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Wow... somehow you're one of the few people that support this. I don't care about concerts, if I lived within a mile that's just how it is, but I am 5 miles from any venue and it sounded like it was right outside my house. Nobody needs to be at a concert that loud, you can enjoy it at the same level all other concerts play. Actually, I wouldn't want to be there because at that level you can't even hear the music they're playing. They obviously were violating their permit.
Lexxias@reddit
It's too loud!!!
The silver line is a shadow of what it was supposed to be, multiple neighborhoods banning drones because of the noise, etc etc. hell 75 is too loud ain't it?
Let's just implode every noise making thing possible so we can have some peace and quite. I support your endeavor
Brilliant-Idea-9554@reddit
Wait what? I’m in uptown and was like wtf is that music??
Mysterious_Cat6228@reddit
I heard it in Turtle Creek Park
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Dude all the way in uptown? So they are blasting like half the city, literally.
mrtakada@reddit
I could hear it in Frisco too
tbear87@reddit
It's loud in Knox Henderson area
yourdailyorwell@reddit
Half my apartment is walking around wondering where the fuck it's coming from.
Environmental-Age149@reddit
Lower Greenville / M Streets - I was walking aimlessly around my house trying to figure out which direction it was coming from.
NJB9891@reddit
Lakewood here - I thought it was a block away. This is insanity. The cops need to do something about this.
meltedkuchikopi5@reddit
lakewood here too - i was wondering what that noise was for hours and thought it was a nearby block party. how is it possible that this is all the way from fair park?!
spacedman_spiff@reddit
Sound bouncing off the low cloud cover.
WatercressTrue3861@reddit
Don’t think enough people know this. The humidity from the rain also certainly helped the bass carry.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Yeah I assumed it was a neighbor but it sounded too far away so figured some block party type thing, went on social media to see if anyone knew and someone said it was fair park. I couldn't believe it so posted here because it's so far away, and I've never heard a concert, even when they do shit on greenville I never hear it. Usually I just kind of sit and try to ignore it when people blast bass but this is the loudest I've heard including our previous asshole neighbors.
30cents2Transfers@reddit
Lakewood here! I thought one of my neighbors was having a rager or something. It was so loud.
Apprehensive-Taco406@reddit
I heard it north of Mockingbird. Not only heard it, the bass vibrated my windows facing towards Fair Park. I thought it was probably someone having a party nearby. That is some very deep bass to kick out that much sound.
30cents2Transfers@reddit
That is insane! Especially north of Mockingbird. Wow
andersvix@reddit
lol counting on DPD to do anything is hilarious to me. I called about an active break in at my house and they never came.
Impossible-Try-9161@reddit
You're hearing it from Lakewood?! It's got to be seismic.
CabotRaptor@reddit
Also in Lakewood. I started walking towards the noise to figure out which house needed the cops called on it.
Would have been a long walk to fair park lol
croissantzzz@reddit
I’ll be there tomorrow and Sunday. Hopefully since it’s sold out the people will make it less noisy haha gg’s
Prestigious-Pin-3204@reddit
I still hear it. It’s after 11. Is that just me?
WatercressTrue3861@reddit
I was there and it ended pretty immediately at 11:00. You must have been hearing the Peso Pluma concert next door at Dos Equis or something else
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
I'm betting either they turned it down or they just have post event music playing but it definitely tapered off pretty quick around 11:15 here.
Perfect_Evidence@reddit
It’s a rave bro
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
I don't think you realize how far this is reaching. It's a densely populated city bro.
spoodlat@reddit
Used to live in Munger Place and the amount of concerts I was able to listen to for free was surprising.
I still remember one 4th of July weekend. There was a concert, and I woke up at 8 AM. to someone doing a solo guitar rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. It sounded like it was across the street for me.
mwana@reddit
That bass and light drizzle. Must have been electric!!! Oh well guess my 40 yr old self can go to sleep now and reminisce about Dallas Lights All Night 2012, Avicii, Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Bassnectar oh memories.
Hozay_La15@reddit
I went to LAN 2012 as well, best LAN lineup ever imo

CleanBookkeeper307@reddit
Everyone, call the police. I just did, and was told that several police are responding. Who knows at what level that will be effective, but it won't hurt if they have an overwhelming number of calls - maybe it will keep this from happening in the future. This is just dumb.
mineraloil@reddit
Yes let’s call the police over a concert that’s gonna end at 11pm anyway.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
It's keeping half of the city up so yes. Someone responded to me elsewhere, they are likely violating city code and the police are the correct people to contact. Someone else said the police are going to make sure it is not as loud tomorrow too. So ... yes.
mineraloil@reddit
Major Karen behavior. Lol
starglo1969@reddit
Why do you think there are noise violation rules, etc? To squash your “fun”?
ganonkenobi@reddit
It was LOUD in Munger Place
ShittyLyrics_@reddit
I thought I was getting old, but nah, these concerts, venues, and bars need a proper sound guy that isn't blasting your eardrums into oblivion and cant hear your date over some loaded nachos. So unneccesary.
weightofzero@reddit
Thought people were reviving the days of systems in their cars. Heard it from the new Jack in the Box on Gaston all the way home to spillway. Better than popping off rounds I guess, go music!
quantumthrashley@reddit
Wait there’s a new JitB on Gaston?? Or did the same one get a remodel?
Cherbs_randomuffin@reddit
Same one got a remodel.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Yeah, an hr ago I went outside to see if it was just our neighbors, nbd if it was I can let em know another day it was kinda loud, heard tires screeching incidentally and figured it was dumb kids down the street, also whatever. Looked up other social media and saw people saying it was fair park like, no way.
Appropriate-Big-3250@reddit
Nobody south of 30 complaining 😂
MsMo999@reddit
Big EDM festival and with all the complaints prob the last time Breakaway Fest plays there.
hushnowonlydreams@reddit
Heard it in The Village. Figured it was a party in another building, but I've never heard anything like that in the 18 years I've lived here.
Impossible-Try-9161@reddit
If people are hearing this north of White Rick lake, just imagine all the residents within a shorter radius.
Not to incite a riot here, but if enough affected residents converge on the source of that public nuisance and make them understand how far their sound is reaching, the authorities might feel obligated to impose limits on their volume levels.
OG-schnitzel@reddit
It’s breakaway music festival at fair park. Police are there providing security, so nothing can be done if you call the cops about it. It’s a 2 day event so I advise yall get some earplugs if it’s gonna be a problem
electricgotswitched@reddit
The city can definitely have them turn it down.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Imagine telling people 10 miles away to get earplugs for a concert lmao...
ReefLedger@reddit
I hope the police don't do shit and Breakaway goes even harder today. Calling the cops for a Friday night concert over around 11 is absolutely a waste of time and taxpayer money.
electricgotswitched@reddit
If people 7 miles away can hear it the music might be a bit behind reasonable levels
kjkat@reddit
By the arboretum. I can hear it inside my house with the TV on…
kjkat@reddit
TBH. probably would have thought it was FOE if it wasn’t for this post.
quantumthrashley@reddit
We must be neighbors! I couldn’t hear it last night but am curious if I’ll hear Peso Pluma tonight.
No_Potato_8178@reddit
I thought it was a wedding with an obnoxious dj. But no, just a professional obnoxious dj at fair park
eduardo929292@reddit
It’s the breakaway festival!!! It will be there again today Saturday
RandleMcMurphy1962@reddit
I just came from the Breakaway Festival. You were absolutely hearing that, not Dos Equis, although there was an act there tonight too.
IAmTurdFerguson@reddit
Wear ear plugs.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Legitimately, not sarcastically, hope you did have fun. I bet it was a hell of a show but with as loud as we can hear it from here I hope your hearing is going to be okay lol.
Illustrious-Ad5575@reddit
This thread is proof that people in the core of Dallas can act the same as people living in the suburbs (and exurbs).
I say that as someone that has lived downtown since 2009 and south of Mockingbird since 2005.
CabotRaptor@reddit
I’m at Mockingbird and Abrams.
My 3 year old could hear it over her white noise machine (which we turned way the fuck up) and asked us to ‘turn off the music’.
It was way, way too loud
PresidentBaileyb@reddit
Yeah people are complaining about noise before midnight on a Friday. I don’t get it. Especially since it’ll be over in like 5 minutes.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Because half of the city can hear it? It's not just a concert it's way too loud. I've had neighbors blasting systems that weren't this loud. If it's too loud for people 10 miles away then people within a mile are risking damaging their hearing. If it was just a loud party on greenville that's different.
Illustrious-Ad5575@reddit
What a tragedy for you. What did the police say when you called them? Are they there yet?
Maybe Trump can do something for you.
PM_ME_UR_PICS_PLS@reddit
reddit ahh comment lmao
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
I didn't call but other people apparently did and the police are doing something. And what the fuck does drumpf have to do with this.
miradesne@reddit
Not really sure what the point is. I've been in ACL and SXSW many times and the sound never went outside of the downtown area. They should find somewhere like Coachella or Burning man if they want to do this.
superdrone@reddit
i mean if its shaking ppl's walls/windows, it's WAY too fucking loud lol
Illustrious-Ad5575@reddit
Then call the police. I'm certain they will have that Dos Equis concert shut down immediately!
mineraloil@reddit
Right it’s only going to last til 11pm. People are being such Karens.

Electricdragongaming@reddit
Damn, did I seriously sleep through this?
ifheartsweregold@reddit
Chill
Sminman86@reddit
just called the cops and they said they have gotten multiple calls about it
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
I feel like the cops aren't going to be able to do much if it was approved, probably need to talk to code and compliance about the permit but it's the weekend. IDK if there's anything to do except after the fact. Might be able to call or email the venue or the event and tell them it's this impacting?
breonny@reddit
As someone who runs events and pulls permits with noise allowance in Dallas, the cops can absolutely do something about it.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Thank you for clarifying, so given that people are reporting this 10 miles away, how does that fall into code? Is there a max allowable volume for these events?
breonny@reddit
The code is goofy and includes language like “normal sensibilities.” Very little is codified in absolute terms like decibel limits. And it’s also worth noting that the code varies across different neighborhoods.
I can’t speak to whether Dos Equis specifically falls to DPD or Code Compliance—special events are typically DPD while establishments are typically Code.
But I can’t imagine people complaining five and ten miles away falls under any acceptable sensibility.
And I can confirm Code works weekends precisely for this reason.
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Thanks, that makes sense too. I'm guessing they are getting it addressed for tomorrow. I can't imagine how loud it is but it has to be over 100db. Probably a good bit over.
breonny@reddit
The way y’all are describing, it’s off the charts. I imagine 120 is normal for Dos Equis. IDK if the atmosphere is playing a roll in trapping and bouncing sound, but this sounds completely insane. I’m out of town tonight, so missing the chaos.
I don’t really know what special allowances/code Fair Park has, but I can’t imagine it’s just limitless!
permalink_save@reddit (OP)
I'm 5 miles away and it sounded like a trunk rattler was outside my house fwiw. At first I thought it was a block party down the street with a loud system. I can't believe the sound traveled that far that loud.
breonny@reddit
I have been digging into the code and special event handbook and can’t find anything the exempts events in Fair Park from playing by the same rules as the rest of us.
I’m super curious how this plays out tomorrow.
sburgartgirl@reddit
insert POPCORN emoji
sburgartgirl@reddit
And I can confirm Breonny knows her stuff.
Unfortunately, Breakaway isn't at Dos Equis tho so there is a weird void into where it falls enforcement-wise. I guess we'll find out tomorrow, lol.
(I should add Dos Equis Management was always been pretty solid and considerate to their neighbors.)
breonny@reddit
Ah, well, if it’s a weird void, it’s probably DPD.
Special event permits aren’t golden tickets to just annoy the piss out of the whole city. I’m looking to see if I can find specifics for Fair Park.
black_lake@reddit
Code Compliance works over the weekend. Most likely though this would be considered criminal and be handled by the police. Not that there's anything they can do either.
sburgartgirl@reddit
As someone who lived (and moved away) from Expo Park, I was told that once it's a permitted event the cops "can't" do anything. Not sure that's true, but they never did when we called. But I'd keep calling anyway, and reach out to Jesse Moreno, the City Councilman.
Illustrious-Ad5575@reddit
Have they shut it down?
GoldenGoof19@reddit
When Coldplay was playing over there I could hear it clear enough to almost pick out the lyrics. The German heavy metal band that came through a few years ago was wild too.
I think it just depends on which way the wind is blowing, but they can’t go super super late over there so it ends around midnight or so.
SaltyCurrent4975@reddit
I heard it in Casa View. I thought the neighbors were just tearing it up. Who was in concert?

permalink_save@reddit (OP)
Dude, I am all for people enjoying a concert, but the venue is way too loud if people are hearing this shit north of white rock lake. They can play at a reasonable level. Having fun but at the expense of everyone around you is called being entitled. 11pm is late for people, especially young kids.

Fuck dem kids

Waiiiit...I been hearing what I thought was someone's loud-ass sounds system since I got back to where I stay in The Village, I'm right by Southwestern and Skillman.
It just stopped about ten minutes ago ... Is that seriously what I was hearing all the way up this way??
sburgartgirl@reddit
yep. and it goes all day tmrw. oof.
BitchyRainbowUnicorn@reddit
Ah, I see. Eh, other people's noise has never really bothered me. Everybody wanna let lose once in a while, and I got earbuds if I'm personally annoyed.
It wasn't bothering me before I knew what it was, I was just surprised it had been going for over an hour in The Village after ten and no one was stopping it, haha.
I just tuned it out and quit paying attention to it after the first 20 min or so after I get home around 10, honestly.
Didn't even notice it had stopped till I saw this thread, noticed the bass thumping was gone, and saw it was just after 11, haha
