A Redditor Criticized ICE. Trump Is Trying to Unmask Them by Dragging the Company to a Secret Grand Jury.

An anonymous Reddit user based in Oregon commented on a particular ICE agent. They shared biographical details about him that were available publicly to anyone who searched. They also made critical remarks about ICE itself, but their tone was pretty weak tea compared to stuff that is posted here hourly.
The feds have tried different tactics using administrative subpoenas. With the ACLU’’s assistance, judges have rejected all of those arguments. Now Trump’s agents are trying a federal grand jury.

In our defense we are a highly complacent and propagandized people.

That’s not a defence at all
Effective-Ebb-2805@reddit
You're not "defending " anyone. In fact, you are rightfully making them look worse... because they are worse.
ttkciar@reddit
We did impeach Trump, but because of the way our laws work, sentencing falls to the Senate, and the Republican-controlled Senate decided the proper sentencing was nothing whatsoever.
So much for the "party of laws", as they like to call themselves.
As for impeaching ICE, they have been sued repeatedly, and the administration has taken the legal stance of "if someone is obeying Trump's orders, it is by definition illegal" which is flat-out wrong, and judges have said it is wrong.
The administration has thusfar chosen to ignore those judges' rulings, and so far no judge has taken the extra step of whistling up Federal Marshals (the only LE under their direct control) and physically arresting them.
I wish they would.
The next level of escalation under our legal system is a violation of Reddit Terms of Use to discuss, so I won't bring it up.

Ice sucks ass.

Doxxing federal agents is illegal, whether you can find the information available online or not.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/119
Note that “restricted information” includes things like their home address, home phone number, and other information that might be publicly available.
Not only that, but it violates Reddit’s rules, specifically Rule 3 against publishing private information about a person, and Rule 7’s prohibition against illegal actions.
warm_kitchenette@reddit (OP)
The statute you list details the information that cannot be released. There is no evidence I know of that the Redditor had any specific details about them named in the statute. It's also difficult to imagine the dismissive reaction of earlier judges if their posts had actually contained addresses, etc.
dittybopper_05H@reddit
So what specific details did the redditor share? You said the they shared “biographical information”.
(b) Definitions.—In this section— (1) the term “restricted personal information” means, with respect to an individual, the Social Security number, the home address, home phone number, mobile phone number, personal email, or home fax number of, and identifiable to, that individual;
As for judges being dismissive, we’ve seen at least one judge actively violate the law to thwart ICE. We’ve seen judges legally act to thwart immigration enforcement.
warm_kitchenette@reddit (OP)
It’s in the article. There was something about where they went to school, and I think one previous job
Your last paragraph shows your perspective much more clearly. You cite the case of one judge and one instance who shielded one immigrant from ice officials who were in the building. That is a real thing that happened. Also, I had ice cream last night and it was delicious. In other words, you are single example does not Trump the tens of thousands of inappropriate activity by DHS, in the field and most gruesomely in their treatment of prisoners in their care.
If you had evidence that the Reddit posts violated that law, you would’ve found it and reported it. If you had evidence that judges are inappropriately “thwarting immigration enforcement”, you also could have shown that, but you did not.
Like the absurd prosecution of the guy that threw a sandwich in DC, this case against a person exercising their first amendment rights is an indefensible position to take. That’s why judges are rejecting it.
dittybopper_05H@reddit
So if I find out who you are, and post your name and where you went to school and a previous job you had, you’d be OK with that? I mean, aside from it being a violation of Reddit policy, you’d be fine with people being able to distinguish you from all the other people named “Jane Doe” (or whatever)?
I don’t think you would be, and no one is threatening you like they threaten ICE agents.
warm_kitchenette@reddit (OP)
ICE sucks. ICE is immoral. ICE agents routinely break the law. They are not held accountable under the law, not even when they shoot an unarmed man in the back.
Are you really and truly attempting to make me empathize with an ICE agent? Are you really and truly attempting to make an argument in defense of them that is centered around following the law? The institution they ignore? The institution with judges that they threatened, whose rulings they flout? The institution shat on by the criminal executive who is guiding them?
ICE agents can be criticized on public forums. They can have information published about them, up to, but not including the precise details mentioned in the law.
If they lose friends and family because of their lying and openly breaking the law, oh well. If they lose jobs because they are fuck ups, who can’t pass test that other ICE agents could, oh well. If their love life turns to dusty ashes because they are the unfuckable minions of a racist administration, oh well. If they wind up in hell for eternity because their Jesus was exceptionally precise about loving one’s neighbor, even the ones that you do not like, e.g., the parable of the Good Samaritan, oh fucking well.
If they are proud of what they were doing, then they can show their goddamn faces and badge numbers. If they were arresting criminals like sex traffickers instead of harmless people who live in our communities, then they might deserve respect. They deserve nothing.
KountryKrone@reddit
This possibly is why Reddit is cracking down on comments recently.
Also, I have seen much worse things said about ICE than what this person said. I think it is the Administration trying to strong arm Reddit and see how far they can go with a 'little guy' who might rollover and give up.
Should this end up in the Supreme Court, these fools will lose IF the Court agreed to hear the case. It's too frivolous.

A citizen under fire for expressing the exact same 1st Amendment rights that people like Trump have used on social and mass media for decades as private citizens.

Everyone should be using a VPN that doesn't log your surfing habits by now.
bs2k2_point_0@reddit
That doesn’t even matter anymore when everyone is still logged into Google and fb while on it. Even your browser footprint can give you away. Browsers give a lot of user data.
Here’s a small example
Waytooboredforthis@reddit
And a small addendum, Signal is pretty damn secure, but turn off your notifactions for it, the feebs were able to pull incoming messages off Signal through someone's notifications.
bs2k2_point_0@reddit
I know it’s a type of, but I kinda like it. I think I’ll start calling them feebs from now on!
Waytooboredforthis@reddit
It's old-timey slang I picked up from my papaw, I don't think anyone uses it anymore because it has since developed into some... ruder connotations.
But yea FBI=Feeb(ie)

They are trying to get the lowest hanging fruit to create steam to get a ladder to pick any futur fruits they want?
warm_kitchenette@reddit (OP)
Close. They want to create the illusion of popularity. You do that by suppressing critical voices. They obviously cannot prosecute everyone who is disgusted by Trump. But a successful prosecution of this mild criticism will make some people change what they say in public.
Also, they must preserve no consequences for their agents in the field. If individuals on the ICE and border patrol squads, believe that they will be identified in the future, they will not be as willing to act as brutally as they have.
Even a true believer in Trump has to be dimly aware that he did not help or pardon everyone. The January 6 folks? sure. Giuliani? Left twisting in the wind, financially ruined.

And that's the country whose very president demands "freedom of speech" for European media. Probably because they are not in line with his Fox News.

Free speech usually just means platforming Nazis.
Blueporch@reddit
This is the first post where I saw that the person doxxed a specific agent. I was wondering why they fixed on this one person among the thousands of Redditors who have exercised their first amendment right to share their opinion about ICE etc.
Y’all need to up your game in the comment section if you want to dilute their attention on this guy.
