1.3 gauge? Is that a homemade rifle/shotgun?
What is the bore diameter in inches or millimeters?
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
Yes it is. It took me a couple years to complete. The bore is 1.5".

Well, just get a rifled musket if you don’t have one, you’ve got the “cannon at the top of the stairs” covered
Substantial-Term3334@reddit
That gun recoiled the trigger guard off! Surprised the trigger guard could be ripped out and that kids index finger is still attached.
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
It was kinda loose. Someone dropped it and damage the screw holes. I have to fix it
singlemale4cats@reddit
It's artillery at that point
Kenanz@reddit
Glad he had a good time, but you know Puerto Ricans are Americans, right?
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
Yes, I messed up, I have fixed it
anonpasta666@reddit
You fix that trigger yet?
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
Yeah it was a simple fix.
anonpasta666@reddit
Glad to hear it!

This is cool, and I now want a punt gun..

In this moment, the young man realized he's been an American all along, he just didn't know it yet.

And I wanna know why because Stone cold-

That recoil looks insane
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
It is and isn't at the same time. The Lott actually has more FELT recoil. As in, the Lott hurts your shoulder more. It's a very snappy and abrupt recoil.
The punt gun on the other hand is very soft on the shoulder. It's a very slow and long recoil inpulse with a lot of momentum. Ft-lbs wise (for recoil) the half load being shot here has almost 4x the amount of recoil as the lott. But since it's a slow heavy chug it's not as bad, even though it physically moves you more. You can think of the Lott as a top fuel dragster and the big gun as a train.
The recoil pad I made for the big gun also helps a significant amount, but even without a good pad it wouldn't be as bad as people expect. It can definitely hurt you if you don't hold it right, though.

This kid is awesome. He and his mother are immigrants from Puerto Rico and he has never shot a gun until today. He saw pictures of some of my big guns and was dying to shoot them.
Before we shot, I went through all the rules of gun safety and showed him how to stand and shoulder the stock for big recoil with a .22lr.
After shooting a bit with that, he moved on to the .458 lott. I was expecting him to be done after shooting an "elephant rifle", but the kid loved the hell out of it. So, we loaded up a half load in the punt gun and he gave it a go. He liked it even more than the lott!
Other than the trigger guard coming loose under recoil (it was damaged from a previous shooter dropping it) it was an awesome time and a very positive experience for a new shooter. He's already asking to go shooting again.
Also, he hit his targets!

Puerto Ricans are US citizens, not immigrants. But still looks like an awesome range day - that’s a lot of gun and he handled it well.
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
I'm an idiot, he's from Venezuela, they came on an asylum visa and are working for their citizenship. I have no freaking clue why I typed Venezuela 🤦♂️
Southern_Planner@reddit
Ah, sick! Good luck to them, looks like they are already enjoying it here.
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
He's been here for a while, but they still haven't got their citizenship. I genuinely had no idea the process took such a long time, I was completely ignorant to it. It really opened my eyes to how fucked the immigration system is.
KikisGamingService@reddit
Been an immigrant in the US for almost 9 years myself. I should be able to set up naturalization soon, but it's a hug headache.
In the meantime, I got a silly gun collection and am currently working on my FFL.
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
That's fantastic! I hope everything goes smoothly for you, with the FFL and naturalization!
KikisGamingService@reddit
Thank you my friend!
GetGoatedYourself@reddit
It takes so long because well, have ya seen the line? Props to them doing things the legal way, hope it works out and we see them on the range again.
brokenaxle69@reddit
Puerto Rico is a US territory. They are US citizens.
Wrapped-TheConfed@reddit
thats what the 500. magnum I shot felt like 😭
P.S, I fired it when I was 11 years old.
Rdmtbiker@reddit
I was wondering what he was shooting other than the ground.
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
We had water jugs set up like 30 yards away

That’s so awesome! I love seeing stuff like this. Welcome to the good ol’ U. S. of A. my friend!!!

I turned the volume up after watching a silent “whaooo”. Was worth it.
Bigbore_729@reddit (OP)
The pure joy and fearlessness he had shooting these today put a huge smile on my face. I was very impressed with how well he handled himself. I tried to pull a "gotcha" by giving him an empty chamber to see if he flinched. Not even a little.
Jiffrey@reddit
I think that gun tackled the damn shooter
