Frisco Officials: No H-1B Fraud Cases Found Despite Public Claims
Posted by TX3DNews@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 120 comments
There’s been a lot of discussion around H-1B visa fraud in Frisco lately, especially online.
At a recent city council meeting, officials were asked directly if any complaints or cases had been filed.
According to the city manager: none.
Meanwhile, public comment included allegations and strong opinions from multiple speakers.
Pecan_Artist@reddit
Anti HB1 because there's plenty of USA workers. Also I might add, I am not a MAGA hat.
Grasle@reddit
Fair, but it's a comparatively minor issue that's blown out of proportion by xenophobes. Rallying "normal" people to their side over what is largely a non-issue is the entire goal.
mllllllln@reddit
There are like ~700,000 H1Bs currently in the US. That's 700,00 higher paying jobs that could be staffed by Americans, it's not small.
Also, add on another 500k for the dependents that they bring, and then if they have kids while here, those kids are automatic citizens who will also take jobs and resources.
mrsmateen@reddit
“Chain migration” 🤣 Are you a Native American? Because if not, you too are a product of chain migration.
Grasle@reddit
That is well under 1% of the US workforce, and possibly up to 5% of the STEM workforce. It is not the reason wages are low; it's just the latest convenient scapegoat for people looking for an easy group to blame.
The fact that you've gone with the rounded-up estimate and then threw in a fabricated number to add dependents to the conversation (as if children raised primarily in America are the enemy?) makes it very clear where your position is coming from.
I'm sure you'd feel very different if it were Koreans in Carrollton being targeted. Then again, maybe not, since you've clearly already gotten yours.
frotc914@reddit
I don't think that wage suppression is a non-issue. In fact i might call it the defining issue of the last 40 years. And h1b is a part of that.
Critterinthecreek@reddit
you consider corporations exploiting people a non issue?
PossibilityFew5967@reddit
H1b in itself is fraud.
It's designed to hire experienced employees and pay them entry level wages
That's where the meme "you need 5 years experience to get a job " comes from
Mnudge@reddit
You’ve obviously never hired anyone through this process. You have to document what you pay and you can’t pay the H1B less than other comparable employees
The process is meant to discourage the hiring of foreign workers, not make it more profitable.
mrsmateen@reddit
Exactly. I processed H-1B visas for years, and a comparable wage sheet is a big part of the application. You have to list all the other employees in the same job title, and their wages, to make sure it’s equitable. You’re also not going to bring in anybody on in an “entry-level” position. It’s typically for specialized positions only. There’s a whole lot of misinformation in this thread.
TheWizard@reddit
So, capitalism.
PossibilityFew5967@reddit
Unregulated capitalism is ass
Regulated, small scale capitalism, is amazing and arguably the only decent system
States/Metro areas SHOULD promote capitalism, federal govts should be the ones adding protections
TheWizard@reddit
Unregulated capitalism is free market. Capitalism itself is not devoid of regulations. There are specific regulations around H1B, which is why I didn't use the word "free market".
What you are asking for, is government protection. Businesses want to get more for less, in capitalism.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
When someone says capitalism is free market, I know they have no clue what they’re talking about, and it was right in your first sentence.
You don’t know what capitalism actually is.
TheWizard@reddit
When someone only reads one sentence (and not be able to comprehend it), fails to read the next (much less comprehend it), and then runs to draw conclusions, it tells enough about the person and his/her cluelessness.
TheWizard@reddit
When someone only reads one sentence (and not be able to comprehend it), fails to read the next (much less comprehend it), and then runs to draw conclusions, its telling of the person being a moron.

And the reality is the flip side, (pure communist nations), it'll be the govt that wants more
It's human nature to always want more hence why you need both sides arguing to get the best argument
TheWizard@reddit
TBH, I avoid using the word "communist" governments since they have existed as much as "free market" has... never!
PossibilityFew5967@reddit
"we've never tired real communism"
TheWizard@reddit
Who has? My ideas of communism and capitalism come from Marx and Smith respectively rather than from Lenin/Stalin and Trump, however.
AdorableZeppelin@reddit
Wait is socialism how we get American companies to hire skilled Americans? Is socialism how we make America great again?
TheWizard@reddit
Government protection is socialism to me. Capitalism is regulated but leaves decision making to businesses. And MAGA is national socialism by another name.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
How is government protection socialism?
TheWizard@reddit
You must believe it's capitalism. Its not. Such protectionism, by definition is opposed to the concepts of capitalism much less free market. It is designed to protect the interests of the people, not that of the capitalists.
Mozadus@reddit
So... what do the regulations do?
Tha_username@reddit
Maybe if you strip the context, I guess. The issue though is that the law says you can’t apply for an H1B unless you can’t find someone of relevant quality. So they juice the quality, and then say they can’t, and then go pay someone cheaply who isn’t of relevant quality either.
The litmus test is do you think a tax loophole is capitalism? If so - then you probably think H1B is as well. If not, then you don’t. There is no serious quality gap here.
TheWizard@reddit
You're accusing without proof. If someone didn't follow the rules, investigate and prosecute. Thats not a loophole, thats fraud (which, hasn't been demonstrated in this case), bitter souls.
Tha_username@reddit
Eh, I guess speak for yourself. I see in my industry job listings that are asking for 10 years experience in frameworks that have been around for 8. It is what it is, and I am not in a position to prosecute. Do you think all white collar crime is prosecuted in the US? Thats naive. Keep on believing that my friend. I have a job, so I’m just pointing out what kind of job postings pass me by.
Ok_Technician_2653@reddit
Don’t worries jobs are offshored and AI will take over eventually. H1B wont matter anymore.
PossibilityFew5967@reddit
Regulation from now
Bulterian jihad motherfuckers
Ok_Technician_2653@reddit

You think city and states make their own H1B laws? Did you complete high school? You are reason companies are looking for foreign workers. I don’t blame them.
PossibilityFew5967@reddit
Oh they could. Ie charge companies a tax for every h1b visa they employee
charlies_brain@reddit
Lol they will send job outside the country. Lose the job and the tax base, dum dum.
-Nocx-@reddit
That’s what tariffs are for. Unironically.
The US really has to get its head out of its asses when it comes to domestic and international policy for protecting labor. You are supposed to make significant investments into R&D/training to subsidize the cost of training labor while taxing the hell out of imported labor except for specific circumstances.
That is the actual way you solve the labor crisis. But people have turned this into a partisan issue, when in reality the establishment is going to try to stay the establishment regardless of what party you’re in and the way they do that is not paying you.

lol Trump loves H1b.
PossibilityFew5967@reddit
That's why trump was the one to add a 100k fee on them?
permalink_save@reddit
That's not how it works though. You put a job listing up with a certain budget. You have to pay h1b the same if you hired local. You also can't hire h1b when another candidate is qualified (which I know doesn't always happen but it's the law). H1b is meant for cases you can't find enough labor domestically so you can bring people in. If h1b is applying for lower wage jobs then that's their choice but anyone can do that. In fact, in tech, that's starting to happen, so many layoffs right now that people (me included) are having to take heavy paycuts. The problem people think is h1b is offshoring where they cut positions and open new ones in other countries where they can pay 1/4 the salary.
frotc914@reddit
Right so when your post offers $50k salary for someone with 10 years experience coding, nobody applies. And you get your h1b at a greatly reduced price. It's not at all tied to market value of the labor.
Exactly, so much abuse is the system that it actually has dropped the market value of your labor.
The reality is these firms could fill these positions... They just need to offer more money. It's that simple. And if they offered more money, more kids would look at it as a stable career, get educated and enter the field, thus reducing the shortage (if there even is one).
There are really no parameters for "qualification". Those applications should get rejected because there are people here who can do the job. They just aren't rejected because they aren't vetted hard enough.
JEXJJ@reddit
It is almost like a legal system focused on employees rights would make way more sense than overwhelming favoring corporate interests.
Oh well
Grasle@reddit
that's going to happen with or without h1b, and h1b is small enough that insinuating the two are directly linked is just disingenuous
Doza93@reddit
Yea.. it has nothing to do with H1B. It's because there really are tons of posting for "entry level" jobs that still want 3 - 5 years of relevant experience
Big_Guest_1740@reddit
kinda wild how they act like it aint a scam fr
Abadabadon@reddit
Not really, h1b makes the same. The way it's abused is you're tied to the employer to stay in the country.
PossibilityFew5967@reddit
Lmfao you believe that? They hire experienced employees and call the role "entry level"
Mnudge@reddit
Well, imagine that you fuckheads.
Complex_Win_5408@reddit

Snobolski@reddit
aka Frisco!
NationalHero1@reddit
That Politician was definitely lying. The city cannot even take reports related to H1-B, it’s Federal and they are also Confidential. The city doesn’t even have access to them to even say if there were investigations lol
Regular_Towel5195@reddit
Do you live in Frisco, Plano or McKinney? Since 2000, the demographics have gone from 2% Indian to 33%
When you find out that they are selling homes to Indian families for 100k less than its listed (several cases of this were brought up at a Frisco city council meeting, with receipts.
That’s not a natural immigration pattern, that’s intentional.
livetoregretnothing@reddit
Who is selling 100K under list and who is that benefitting besides the buyer? If it’s Indians selling to other Indians I get it. You could knock 200K off a house owned by Indians and I wouldn’t buy it. The smell of curry gets infused into the walls.

Ah. People Mad About Indians. PMAI. There’s LOADS of PMAIs in Frisco.
There are also loads of Indians in Frisco, and trust me, if they feel threatened, they’ll take their healthy tax base and leave.

Capitalism is about using the cheapest labor to get work done to reward investors not employees.
Compensation pays executives stock incentives that grow over time. Average employee gets left out of this with stagnant cash wages - This will always be a spreadsheet number that will be optimized by decision makers.
Market currently has a lot of excess supply of tech workers- Lowest wages to do the job will always be the recruiter playbook.
H1B just so happens to fulfill this need. With newer wage revisions and rules this will die down. However more American workers will not get jobs as AI has killed the party - software development has become commoditized and increasingly will get automated.
ScreensAB@reddit
Lol ok? Frisco will be fine without them, I don’t understand the weird arrogance that the city and housing market will collapse if the Indian population up and left. It’s was showing massive growth on its own over the last 15 years the Indian migration had nothing to do with it. Good schools, tons to do, close to Dallas. Would have zero effect long term.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
Aww, that’s hilarious. You keep on thinking that.
ScreensAB@reddit
There is no logical thinking that would lead anyone to believe any differently, and if there was you would have mentioned it. And just a side note, if you’re curious to why there is so much anger and animosity towards the Indian community (not that I agree with it) you can point to that very arrogance that is brought over here by that community. “We get paid more, we’re smarter than you, the city is booming because of us, the housing market will crash if we left”. Maybe a quick look in the mirror would do wonders for a more wide spread acceptance. Be proud of the country you chose to move to, instead of bashing it in every Reddit thread and making everyone feel like the immigration is anything other than exploitative.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
Who are you talking to? I’m not Indian.
ScreensAB@reddit
Talking to the Indian people blowing up my comments. If you don’t fall into that category then it is easy to figure out that I’m not talking to you.
aaa2050@reddit
And why do you think the schools are good?
ScreensAB@reddit
The same reason there are numerous suburbs in DFW with highly rated school districts. Do y’all hear yourselves? Zero amount of introspection, just complete ignorance and woe is me attitude. Yes, there is a huge amount of jobs and HQ’s in close proximity, all the more reason the city would be booming regardless and was before the change in demographics. For as smart as Indian people are it’s absolutely shocking y’all can’t figure out that a huge source of all the anger about this whole situation can be traced to the attitudes of this small but very loud and outspoken group of Indians on these Reddit threads.
ScreensAB@reddit
And also, y’all are mad at this group of white people for being upset that the majority white city they have lived in for gears has had a huge demographic change but don’t see an issue with wanting to move where every other Indian has moved to? Y’all are doing the very same thing that you call white people racist for, wanting to live around people of a similar demographic.
bioskope@reddit
Hahahaha what did you think was happening in the last 15 years to fuel Frisco's growth? Do you think Indians started moving to Frisco only in the last couple of years? Go look at the rising enrollment numbers under Asians for those years in Frisco ISD for any of those 15 years. They started moving when companies started shifting their HQs to North TX in that same time period.
baggedBoneParcel@reddit
Not that I think there's anything going on, exactly, but how the hell would Frisco 'officials' have any idea what's going on with a federal immigration policy?
ParkingDragonfruit92@reddit
I dated someone who worked with the application process of H1B and if the american workers existed, they would get hired. The united states workforce is under educated. Fix the education system and the amount of visas being handed out will go down. There I fixed it.
SmokedNoodz@reddit
If someone is dependent on a work visa to stay in America they are prone to accepting less pay and bad working conditions. IMO it hurts American workers and drives wages down.
NationalHero1@reddit
H1-B in itself is fraud. The Governments own reports even say it is not necessary, especially when we are close to the highest Unemployment rate since the Great Depression. It is just a way for Greedy Corporations to drive wages down and abuse human labor and Politicians (including Trump and Abbott) profit greatly from it at the cost of US workers.
permalink_save@reddit
You can see that this is nowhere near true. Unemployment has been around previous periods of really low unemployment. Aside from the pandemic we've had pretty good unemployment rates since the 2008 recession. If that rate goes up, it's from the fed reserve tuning interest rates not an influx of h1b.
What's concerning is if corporations continue to go full on with AI replacing jobs. It's been hitting the tech industry (and a huge mistake doing so) but I'm even skeptical it will be that drastically impacting.
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/UNRATE
Beyond_Reason09@reddit
lol, not even close
NationalHero1@reddit
Oh, so we found the one guy that believes the recent report is highly under stated after they admitted tons of people aged out of the unemployment date
Beyond_Reason09@reddit
This isn't a thing.
So first of all you have to admit you're a conspiracy theorist and every economist in the entire world is conspiring to lie. Because there's no way a great depression level economic crisis in the US would have no effect at all on any other country and no economic data suggests that this is happening as reported by any government agency in the world or any private research group or university.
Then you also have to say that every business in the country is also openly committing fraud by lying on their earnings reports with no repercussions because despite us apparently being in a great depression level economic crisis there has been no impact on things like car sales, mortgage payments, theme park attendance, etc.
There's just no way a great depression level economic crisis happens and it's only detectable by reddit.
NationalHero1@reddit
Did you not read what I said? I am talking about Employment number’s and the massive amount of unemployed just fell off the official reports (because their dates aged out).
Beyond_Reason09@reddit
What do you mean their "dates aged out"? That isn't a thing.
NationalHero1@reddit
You obviously don’t know how unemployment works. If you do not find a job over time you roll off to “Not in the labor force” (NILF) status.
Beyond_Reason09@reddit
That's not how the unemployment rate works. It's just something that people mindlessly repeat on reddit. If you stop looking for a job, you're not in the definition of unemployed, but you can be looking for 50 years and still be considered unemployed as long as you've looked in the last month.
NationalHero1@reddit
They literally have a calculation specifically for it called “Labor Force Participation Rate” which determines “aging out", rather than finding job within the time period to be included as Unemployed on the reports, even though you still do not have a job.
halfuser10@reddit
Frisco is unrecognizable.
ghostpepper69@reddit
Oh no, my intersection of two tollways surrounded by strip malls has become a cesspool!!
NationalHero1@reddit
H1-B isn’t a city issue, you cannot even report it to the city. It is USCIS and some of it falls under the State Department and those reports are Private. Any Politician telling you “the city has no reports” is full of it because they cannot even take those records or have access to them.
bioskope@reddit
The article does go into that. The complaints being received have to do with Abbott saying they were going to start investigating possible H1b offences based on complaints received.
Oh and the article also talks about what you're stating.
RTFA maybe?
NationalHero1@reddit
And you think this is the only H1-B case that has ever existed? Like I was saying the overall issue is Federal and usually under USCIS with some under the State Department, not this tiny corner case this article is talking about. It doesn’t even mention anything related to Project Firewall or the other investigations…..it doesn’t even mention the main investigation the US Government released involving all of the Indian companies (where they actually released the names).
Successful-Actuary74@reddit
The whole work visa system including H1/L1 and the OPT/F1 to work visa pipeline is designed to defraud American workers. Neither political party is going to change this because they are in the pickets of the large companies that fund them.
Recently there have been hundreds of thousands of layoffs in IT and yet work visas are still being approved sidestepping labor certification rules and other controls.
justrigt08@reddit
