How do you Americans feel now that your neighbor south now (Mexico) has Universal Healthcare, something that you Americans still don’t have?

Mexico joins the list of First World countries that has universal healthcare for all of their citizens. Meanwhile Americans are drowning in medical debt left and right and sadly not part of the Universal Healthcare club. The “perk” is currently something that is reserved for the Military through TriCare.

I have been to Mexico and seen the metal shack villages. Have you? I am glad if they are getting something, if this is true. The poverty their is truly heartbreaking.

I’m happy for them. Hopeful that one day we get it too!

We outperform them on most metrics related to healthcare, and have higher satisfaction with our coverage.

Didn't even know Mexico had universal healthcare and I'm a dual US/Mexico citizen.
I mean, it's whatever, what am I supposed to feel? Jealousy? The system in the US is so deeply engrained that how I feel about it is irrelevant. It sucks but I'm tied to working at an employer for a high-deductible insurance plan while paying $400 per month. That's life here unfortunately.

They don’t yet. It has been announced and it’s supposed to roll out in phases. It should be available to everyone next year and fully implemented by 2030.

Kind of sounds like you want to make a political argument rather than ask a good-faith question.
Live_Bit_7000@reddit (OP)
I am having a meaningful conversation. Not a political argument at all. This is a good-faith question.

Some Americans want universal healthcare. Some don't. Some states have tried, and, as I recall, it's been not very successful. (Massachusetts and Vermont have played with some public health options, iirc.)
We don't have universal healthcare because we haven't collectively voted for it. There's a thing Americans believe, that when you vote for the government to force you to do or pay for things, it's ten times harder to get them to stop. So, in general, Americans try not to give their government power unnecessarily, since they rightly distrust it.

I don't feel any different at all.

Like I should further consider immigrating to Mexico

I'm happy for them. We'll get there one day.

I don't feel like you are trying to have a meaningful conversation, that's how I feel.

I don't care. Good for Mexico now they need to focus on the cartel problem
Der_Blaue_Engel@reddit
Personally, I feel great that I’m not particularly worried about some cartel enforcer cutting my head off today.

I’m very happy for them. Having lived there, I care deeply about Mexico. I hope the program works and more people gain access to high quality healthcare.
That country has so much potential and so many good people who are held back by corruption and crime. I look forward to seeing them live a better quality of life.
Maleficent-Hawk-318@reddit
Happy for them, still would rather live in the US.
Interesting-Run-6866@reddit
I didn't even know, so I don't have any opinions about it.
