Historical hypothetical/discussion: Say it's 1926 and you are in the market for a revolver in the same cartridge as your .38-40 Winchester carbine. Would you get a Single Action Army or double action New Service?

Anyone aware of any articles from the period discussing this?

I would love to see 1920's GunTube.

It's only silent films.

New Service

$34.00
warpedaeroplane@reddit
That was a lot of money at the time!

That doesn’t lessen the heartache
omicron022@reddit
It should. That 34 dollars is equivalent to something around 630 dollars now.
Suggins_@reddit
you can’t even get a brand new colt from their website under 900$ right now

Oh ye of trust in government inflation figures lol!
You could buy an ounce of gold for $20.67 during this time, what is it now $4760?
The way I see it, that gun made as it was then should cost about $8000 now.

Assuming this is for some kind of high-intensity gunfighting/dangerous law enforcement scenario, then unless I was particularly adept at the mechanics of shooting a SAA im going with a double-action revolver every time.

Good enough for Revolver Ocelot. . .
Mammoth-Western-6008@reddit
SAA. Not even a question.
Revolutionary-Wash88@reddit
Due to its attractive appearance?

It's the ultimate in cowboy luxury.

In 1926? Definitely the New Service.
GearsFC3S@reddit
I don’t see why you would choose the SAA over the New Service, unless you’re some kind of old hand with one or a wannabe gunslinger.
44Revolver1908@reddit
Definitely the New Service!
