Do you think your country has a lot of underused potential?

In Croatia we often complain about how underused our arable land is as well as our ports. Ofcourse, corruption is the main thing standing in the way of achieving those things.
What about your country?
Aristo95@reddit
I guess you could say almost every country in the world has some sort of underused potential. In case of Serbia, we were agricultural powerhouse once and the only reason we aren't right now is a long sequence of bad policies and corruption. We also have huge potential in tourism. Of course, we'll never come close to Croatia or Greece in that regard, but we could triple or quadruple tourist visits if we put more effort and became more stable country.
SansBouillie@reddit
Maybe you could form a union with Montenegro to combine your agriculture with their tourism potential. Call it "State union of Serbia and Montenegro" or something
ilijadwa@reddit
And then Montenegro will vote to secede again 😂ðŸ˜
Dawncracker_555@reddit
Do not get me started.
We could feed half of Europe.
Sport_Middle@reddit
And the nature is beautiful
Substratas@reddit
Northern Serbia has the best soil in the Balkans iirc.
NoReportedTaxes@reddit
I did make a post about this on my sub but I got flamed by my fellow men. I think thats because on reddit balkaners are pessimistic. I still stand to my believe. Albania global power by 2035!
EternalPrince54@reddit
the global power part is something i will live outside of the conversation lol but yeah balkaners on reddit are pessimistic af
NoReportedTaxes@reddit
Not global power but it will be significantly better
EternalPrince54@reddit
i think yes, but i guess through a neo-liberal lense?
NoReportedTaxes@reddit
I suspect. Getting into the EU and having access to billions of FDI and the biggest market on the planet will help. But I also foreshadow a "shock therapy" from the switch. Similiar to what croatia is going through.
Unitedpossibles@reddit
Why are Albanians so sure about getting into the EU soon. I think that’s very very wishful thinking. The country is a complete mess and its connection to Kosovo is problematic. The EU doesn’t want to get involved in these regional spats. From what I’ve seen, Albanian nationalism in Europe and things like them basically taking over the Swiss football team. I’m sorry for being the bearer of bad news but Albanians are loved throughout Europe and certainly not by other balkan counties. Montenegro has a very good chance in the near future, Albania not so much.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
It is not a nationalist symbol ,it simply represents the eagle of the flag ,you are either stupid or a Serb nationalist because literally no one sees that as nationalistic gesture
Unitedpossibles@reddit
If they are so proud and that’s what they represent then go back and play for that team. In this case these are supposed to be representing Switzerland. Go take your nationalism to your own country. Do you know the definition of this ? Cause that’s what it is
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
They clearly represent the Swiss national team and that is up to the Swiss federation not braindead nationalists like you. I do know the definition of nationalism ,you are the one that does not know it
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
That is a fact that is going to happen ,you wont send shit cuz Im sure you are broke hater that has no better job to do. What nationalism are you even talking about ,what did swiss-albanian players do that is considered nationalist? You live in a different reality
Unitedpossibles@reddit
You living under a rock? One such example from many: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jun/23/xhaka-and-shaqiri-goal-celebrations-bring-balkan-politics-to-world-cup …. Are you even Albanian? Or European? If you don’t know this I am suspecting you are not. Oh and no i actually have money. It’s the poor europeans convinced by the far left to feel bad enough to let shit governments and economies full of corruption like Albania join the EU. Albania is a great country. Stay there. Fix your own problems
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
And what is nationalist about it??you are so stupid to not even read the article 😂😂they just opened a proceeding cuz the Serbs complied but they did not get fined cuz the symbol is not nationalistic ,why are you so stupid?
Unitedpossibles@reddit
Wtf are you talking about. It’s a nationalist symbol for sure. And there are many such examples. Anyways good luck with whatever you think will happen. Don’t have time for this and don’t really give a shit. Just calling you out for being a moron. And also to say EU people don’t want Albania. Bye
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
😂😂you do not get to decide who loves who ,you are just expressing your personal views which do not aligh with the Europen Union, they all said Albania will join by max 2030 right after Montenegro ,you are just an ignorant hater
Unitedpossibles@reddit
Haha I will personally send you a 1000 euro if that happens. No way in hell that in 4 years that will happen. In no parallel universe. Albanians in Albania are actually some of the nicest people I’ve met. The diaspora is a whole different story. Europe has enough issues. They don’t need more nationalist bs issues with football players supposedly with swiss citizenship showing off their whatever against serbian players. It’s trash. If you are swiss, then assimilate. If not go back to where you came from if you care so much. Have no problem with the people. But you all need a reality check if you think that’s remotely possible.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Global power??😂😂we are lucky if we become almost as rich Romania,Bulgaria or Greece
NoReportedTaxes@reddit
Stay positive! The Stars are the limit!
LegioXI89@reddit
Serbia - agriculture
NoScreen54@reddit
what sort of stuff do y'all grow in serbia?
Emotional_Story9702@reddit
Whole Vojvodina in the north has the same quality of agricultural land as Netherlands, it produces basically everything, but it not exploited as it could be.
Also, Serbia is the 5th larger producer of raspberries in the world, and it's behind much larger counties, like Russia, Mexico, Poland and USA.
NoScreen54@reddit
I believe Serbia is also among the biggest producers of poppy seeds too. behind Turkey I think
Emotional_Story9702@reddit
I'm not familiar with that. Thanks for the info.
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
The Pannonian plain is entire northern Serbia, so basically everything.
Antique_Birthday6380@reddit
For Albania, yes for sure, but this potential would be used in the 90s-2000s, now it’s too late.
DimDamTam@reddit
In Bulgaria we have many natural wonders and amazing nature. It's barely used for any tourism.
And also the corruption, yeah.
Yavannia@reddit
Trust me you don't need to use them for tourism, keep them pure. Not everything needs to be exploited.
BrokenBiscuit@reddit
What would you recommend? I went to Plovdiv once and really liked it. Also heard Bulgarian has great skiing areas?
TheFennecFx@reddit
The tourism is a dirty business, without much of an added value. So we are much better without using the nature more (and we are using it).
FantasticQuartet@reddit
I would argue that the demographic problem is just as bad as corruption if not worse.
Archaeopteryx111@reddit
Yes. Romania had the most natural resources of any European country outside of Ukraine and Russia.
Substratas@reddit
Emotional_Story9702@reddit
Every Balkan country has.
CockamouseGoesWee@reddit
Greece has way more diaspora than indigenous at this point, all the educated folk going elsewhere. So much potential wasted
Super_Sherbet_268@reddit
no wonder why some greeks hate the EU
Accurate_Shift_3118@reddit
yeah, definitely. India has huge potential—young population, strong tech talent, massive market—but things like bureaucracy, infra gaps, and slow execution still hold it back a bit.
