Which movie from your childhood would you like to see modernized?

For me, it's Flight of the Navigator. That ship was rad!
Major_Twang@reddit
No. Stop re-making. Leave classic films alone.
If you want to source old material, why has nobody touched Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land ?
Or Dan Dare ?
badhoopty@reddit
the last starfighter. one hundred percent.
a remake would be cool, but so would being the same actors/characters just later in life.
Bob_12_Pack@reddit
I think someone should take a stab at remaking Explorers
ShyChiBaby@reddit
Instead of reboots I'd rather see continuations of series I love using AI to keep the people at the same age they were. Like more Star wars stories with Luke, Han and Leia or more Indiana Jones movies or more back to the Future. There's so much possibility with those stories and we already love those characters.
HGFantomas@reddit
None. I have (generally) found that remakes and reboots do not live up to the originals despite (or because of) the technology upgrades. I am thinking of clash of titans, willy Wonka, transformers as example. The exception may be the daniel Craig James bond films.
Thirty_Helens_Agree@reddit
Dune.
StOnEy333@reddit
Megaforce. Modern CGI would do wonders for the film.
Responsible_Name1217@reddit
I was literally thinking about this the other night. I'd like to see a new "Last Starfighter"
kramwest1@reddit
Zardoz
I like the story, and I’m sure we can find solid, updated eye-candy from Sean Connery and Charlotte Rampling.
adaminoregon@reddit
Could go for a new Logans Run. They could do a lot with that property.
kramwest1@reddit
I’d be up for it. I like the original, but the effects are awful in the modern era.
tanhauser_gates_@reddit
War Games
in-a-microbus@reddit
I would love to see a remake of "Outland" 1981.
That was classic sci-fi. Sheriff goes to clean up the drug problem in a small mining town.
Oh and BTW the mining town is on Jupiter's moon IO.
kramwest1@reddit
Yes.
Hattkake@reddit
None. I am bored with reboots. I am in the future now. Why is there no new stuff?
Agent7619@reddit
Go see Project Hail Mary
Hattkake@reddit
Thank you. I have heard that name before so I will. It is new, like 2025, 2026 new?
Agent7619@reddit
Released three weeks ago
usury87@reddit
Came here to say this myself. No prequils. No origin stories. No reboots.
New stories. New characters. Please.
Concerning modern "prestige tv", how about more than ten episodes per season and less than a year between seasons?
Draco53@reddit
I loved that movie so much as a kid. My only concern about a modernization is they'd be likely to completely ruin the movie.
platoniclesbiandate@reddit
Watcher in the Woods. A forgotten and spooky Disney movie that could benefit from modern special effects.
Braincloud@reddit
Not without Bette Davis 😩 I was obsessed with that movie lol.
Vast_Breadfruit_162@reddit
Prince of Darkness.
Great story, good direction, decent writing, TERRIBLE ACTING!!
BabadookOfEarl@reddit
😮 How dare you treat master thespian Alice Cooper that way!
Rredhead926@reddit
The Last Starfighter - not so much modernized. I'd like to see the sequel.
everydave42@reddit
No. Not everything needs a sequel. The Kodan Armada was defeated. Fin.
Rredhead926@reddit
There are other threats besides the Kodan Armada. At the end of the movie, Alex is going back out to train the next Starfighter Legion.
everydave42@reddit
Which he will excel at becuase we see his character development in the film. This is the point. Not every story needs to go on forever...
I get it, you want more of the same, and I'm not knocking you for it. I just don't see the point of it from a storytelling perspective. He had the hero's journey, what more is there?...oh..right....another hero's journey?
Let it be.
DearGabbyAbby@reddit
It’s been a Long and Winding Road and Across the Universe, Mean Mr Mustard is causing problems. Lance and Alex thinks We Can Work it Out but it’s not Yesterday. We need a Revolution!
pocketdare@reddit
Thanks to the Death Blossom!
Quasigriz_@reddit
Do a double remake feature with The Last Starfighter and Cloak & Dagger
Comedywriter1@reddit
Yes! Lance and the director were still talking about a possible sequel at the film festival I went to last year.
Rredhead926@reddit
Yep - the ending was supposed to set up the possibility of a sequel, but it never happened.
IDunnoNuthinMr@reddit
W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings
smokey_sunrise@reddit
The Last Starfighter but just the CGI sequences
aran_maybe@reddit
All of them, just to piss people off. And swap their races and sexes willy nilly. Cynthia Erivo as Snake Pliskin! Coleman Domingo as John Rambo! Laverne Cox as Indiana Jones! Zendaya as Ferris Beuller! Idris Elba as Ripley! Chris Evans as Axel Foley!
slothboy@reddit
Modernization of movies almost never works. You can almost guarantee that the things you like about the classic will not make the transfer.
Old_fart5070@reddit
None. I don’t want to risk seeing Snake Plissken or Rambo gender or race swapped for modern audiences and see one more story destroyed and going the way of Star Wars
ConnieLingus34@reddit
wyocatqueen@reddit
Maybe Flash Gordon
in-a-microbus@reddit
That WAS a modernized remake.
Stop-Being-Wierd@reddit
Veto
LordRatt@reddit
Fuck no! That movie was perfect. The costuming, "DIIIIVE!", The freaking soundtrack!
Ok-Lingonberry-8261@reddit
The Dam Busters with modern CGI and the full declassified after action reports.
LordRatt@reddit
Just watch Star Wars: a new hope, if you want and updated Dam Busters. :)
oddball_ocelot@reddit
None. Anything they try is going to be CGI or AU garbage and ruin the memory.
CousinBarnabas1967@reddit
Not a movie, but the soap opera Dark Shadows. Only pick up where the series left off, no need to retell Barnabas' origin story again. Oh, and keep it gothic horror, not a blood & gorefest!
Hussein_Jane@reddit
Gotcha!
TinyRandomLady@reddit
None! Stop making remake and reboots!
johnwcasey@reddit
Roger rabbit
LadyNorbert@reddit
I would have said the Masters of the Universe movie, but they're already releasing a new iteration of that in June, and honestly I think it looks great.
muy-feliz@reddit
I can’t wait for this.
And Jordan Catalano is Skeletor!!!
ascaffo@reddit
Maybe Krull
pocketdare@reddit
It's a show, not a movie, but I'd love to see an update of The Greatest American Hero
adaminoregon@reddit
I think if they keep it set in the 80s that would be the key. Same for a knight Rider remake.
Dull_Conversation669@reddit
None, quit ruining good old stories with "modern" themes and storylines.
