I sometimes headcanon Xena is much older then she looks and found the fountain of youth...
But anyway I was always felt puzzled by their ages my self to the point kid me went, "screw it they're adults except for the obivious children on screen."
I believe I read a very old Xena fic where she was trying to obtain eternal youth/immortality from a magic well, but Gabrielle stopped her from being corrupted by it just in time. I could have remembered wrong.
Mine didn't have Gabrielle just Borias... she expanded her life purposely for a couple hundred years not forever. I got flamed so badly kid me got scared and took it down. At the time there's was this fanfic writer and it wasn't even fandom she was in was following me around determined to get me off the internet. I caved as a scared kid also Xena fans (like super rabid shippers) were so offended that Borias was there instead of Gabrielle.
Even though it's canonical pairing from Xena's villain days???
I didn't understand at the time.
But I'm glad to see someone else had the same idea.
Damn, I guess fandom culture just never change, sorry you got cyberbullied over a fanfiction. That's so stupid, I thought the main rule of fandom is to write/consume how you like to.
Anyway your idea sounds extremely interesting, maybe now that youre an adult I'm sure your writing has gotten way better and you can explore the fic again but better :). It makes sense to me that it was Borias who encouraged her to grasp great power, knowing their warlording past together. It just wouldn't make much sense for Gabrielle to be the partner in the time and place. The old fic I read where Gabrielle discourages her makes far more sense. I always love when fanfic writers don't hold back making evil Xena true to her bad nature. I feel like the Xena fandom can be too forgiving of her past sometimes.
Maybe I will write some fanfiction (pulled from my old notebooks) soon... though to be honest I have published three stories online from other fandoms I'm invested in and it feels like asking for feedback from the void.
No comments. Lol..like at all I have 30+ chapter story going for a cartoon I loved as a kid. But this story was good and sitting in my notebook.
So the lack of comments and conversation feel discouraging.
However I don't understand why people couldn't write about Xena's villain days without putting Gabrielle in it. I mean Xena has a history before Gabrielle it's just fact.
I wasn't leaving Gabby out of hate I love her character even when she annoyed me in her pacifist stage!
She wasn’t there because the story simply didn't call for her. People didn't get it.
Because if she is the same age as Herc, then that is a 20 year difference between her and Gabby and wouldnt be comfortable with them umm you know, Lol 🤣 the same i wasnt comfy with Iolaus and Gabby kissing and besides in Unchained Heart, she looked younger than Herc and company.
I think at the start of the show she is in her late 20s
I looked up the actors ages ago’s and I understand what you getting at. I didn’t realize that Kevin Sorrbo was nine years older than Lucy.
With that in mind though, I still think they were written to be aro the same age, especially Iolaus/Gabby kiss. That doesn’t make Xena Xena that much older than Gab, but rather, I think Herc and Ioalous were younger than their actors.

Thank you! I have a few hundred ideas for them. I could rewrite a new series with them if I had the time and energy.
I just wished I could have handled flames better as a kid. But that's life I guess.

Jason’s age got reconned, so I go with the pre-recon with him being around Hercules and Iolaus’ age.
Is Hercules being older than Xena in the show? I always assumed they were around the same age.
Joxer seems young. He’s probably Gabrielle’s age.
Ephiny is probably also around Gabrielle’s age.
Characters you didn’t mention…
I think Lila is supposed to be like 14/15…way younger than her actor.
Amarice. She’s probably seventeen at most when we meet her. Gabrielle outright calls her a kid.
Eli is probably closer to Xena’s age. I think he felt set in life when he suddenly had healing hands.
Tilly, Argo’s actor, was six in her debut, so the same is probably true of Argo.
