Saul pulls off the ultimate courtroom con and gets off on a technicality or jury nullification or something to get declared innocent or get off with a slap on the wrist. (the black and white heist stuff is massively shortened so he gets caught sooner and more of that time can be spent building this up instead)
Saul becomes a pro bono lawyer helping the poor and sympathetic people who are getting picked on by corrupt police and corporations like Kim was doing instead of helping rich murderers and drug dealers. BUT he goes all in on using his scammy Saul techniques to do it. The perfect synthesis between Kim's ideals and Saul's. He doesn't give up who he is and who he wants to be (the way he does in the actual ending) but he learns to use his powers for good instead of evil.
he worms his way out of his trial and goes on to be a pro-bono lawyer for the lowest of low-lives that he made his money off of before he changed his ways
I liked the BCS ending right up until I read this comment. This would be peak. Or, not quite this, not merely pro-bono for scumbags like he was before, but doing the Kim thing of helping the poor and unfortunate people who are getting run over by the law. But with Saul scummy tactics. Combining the kindness of Kim with the tactics of Saul, scamming the crap out of corrupt cops, making troll videos with Afroman. It would have been a better synthesis of his two warring sides and learning to harness his superpowers for good instead of evil, rather than just giving up and saying "Kim and Chuck were right and I was wrong, and the goofy fun we enjoyed all show long were just evil with no redeeming qualities."
If they were done in real life then yes, they would be. The entire conceit of the show is that it's fun to root for a charismatic villain in fiction. For us, the audience, it's hilarious for Saul to go buy some bowling balls and then smash that jerk Howard Hamlin's car. In real life that would be cruel and tragic. It's a catharsis of seeing petty half-villains that are similar to people who annoy you in real life get their comeuppance at the hands of Saul in a way that you can't get in real life without it being cruel and tragic.
The ending is them throwing away the suspension of disbelief and fun and deciding to go all in on being realistic instead. Meanwhile, Breaking Bad ends with Walt remote controlling a machine gun hooked to a car remote and getting revenge on all the people who betrayed him. It was FUN. It would have also been cruel and tragic if done in real life, but it wasn't done in real life, it's a show. And they still had him pay the price for his crimes in a compelling and narratively satisfying way.
It's pretty terrible. If you try to tell the fans though, they'll claim it's because you don't get it, as if there's anything difficult to understand about it.
If he weaseled his way out of it she’d push him away completely and never love him ever again
It’s because he fessed up and faced the music that she finally respected him, and it probably helped her be a better person in her life too.
And the decision wasn’t just about Kim. Him using sleazy tactics to weasel others/himself around the law was the whole point of the show, and this was him finally stopping it
That was basically the last decent thing he did, big picture-wise, and it was absolutely on his way down. He goes from "I'll rob a dying man, I don't give a shit." To "I take responsibility for all of my crimes, and will go to prison for it willingly." in the space of a few scenes.
Did you watch the show? She ruined her life for him. He pulled her to the dark side. She had ethics and morals early on, but she felt knew that he knew he was corrupting her, and that's when she went even further than him, in oder to keep him.
It wasn’t for her, not directly at least. He just wanted to honor the moments that they had together, as well as honoring his brother Chuck. He did it for his own self respect.
Anyone who actually watched the show could clearly tell Jimmy and Kim loved each other. Its not even a question of interpretation, they beat you over the head with it.
