Outstanding commentary đ
Squeezy_Ghee@reddit
BigJetTV is pretty solid for plane spotting. I would watch his channel a lot during Covid since we couldn't travel.

âOHHH MOY FLIPPIN âECKâ
I want this guy as a commentator on every sporting event I watch

Good old Jerry from Big Jet TV ahah he recently had heart surgery and suffered 2 strokes but seems like heâs on the mend. Started up a livestream a couple days ago
swemeatballs78@reddit
Oh wow, did not realise this. Saw his van a few months ago in Staines. He's such a great character and his commentary are ace. Hope he recovers
OmegaPoint6@reddit
Yeah, he's lost sight in one eye sadly due to the stokes but he got out of hospital 2 week ago and is slowly getting back to the streaming.
andymk3@reddit
He is on the mend thankfully, but it's going to be a slow process. My wife and I have missed his streams, great to have on in the background on weekends.
DocFail@reddit
He coulda just walked it in!
herladyshipssoap@reddit
Who is this man? I want to travel the world with him.
wotmate7@reddit
BigJetTV his name is Jerry Dyer- very popular YouTube live streamer from various airfields, mainly Heathrow. Usually goes viral any time there is a big storm in England with strong winds and everyone tunes in for the live stream. He does great entertaining commentary during these hairy landing moments.
As mentioned above, sadly he has had some serious health problems recently and been in hospital. It is hopeful that he is recovering and will get back to some streaming.
herladyshipssoap@reddit
Oh that is sad. I just found a post from Captain Chris on Instagram explaining he had a couple of strokes.

Ex carrier pilot?
Policondense@reddit
Wind.
keytone6432@reddit
Can someone explain why they kept the nose up for so long?
gitbse@reddit
This looks like a pretty heavy wind shear. The whole airplane dropped, at a disastrously low height above the ground. The pilots were most likely holding the nose up hard to soften the landing as much as possible after that drop. Then, the rollout isn't stable for awhile, so they don't have complete control for braking until they stabilize a bit.
keytone6432@reddit
Thanks!
_sehnsucht__@reddit
Probably thinking that a mile of wheelie will make everyone forget about the crash before that.
3rd-party-intervener@reddit
Cx went downhill when they let all their foreign pilots go. Â Used to be great airline. Â Not no more.Â
rambyprep@reddit
Why is this downvoted? They got rid of so many of their best and most experienced pilots when they closed the bases in Australia, the USA, Britain etc.
There are plenty of articles about this online.
3rd-party-intervener@reddit
The truth isnât allowed here. Â But the real ones knowÂ
ActivityIcy4926@reddit
Youâre not wrong. But the best pilots in the world canât prevent wind shear. Thereâs no correlation between CX going downhill and wind shear causing a navy landing.
ActivityIcy4926@reddit
I think because it may imply it was the pilots fault rather than wind shear.
aftcg@reddit
No one wants to know this truth.
nomisman@reddit
lol the downvotes from those who donât know the real story
cranberrydudz@reddit
How are people getting this footage of planes landing? Are people just really camping out by airports and recording planes landing all day long? I mean i get that it's a hobby but all day every day?
ActivityIcy4926@reddit
Yes
litoven@reddit
Not only that, there are thousands watching the streams hearing their commentary and they try to be there for when special planes or liveries show up where they are.
For me it's one of the best background streams to watch while working and when I hear something interesting I watch. LAX, LHR, ORD, MIA, FRA... are very busy and interesting locations, ANC is probably the best if you want to see big cargo planes.
Peter@LA flights, Jerry @Big Jets TV and others are great at what they do and I see them as like what the old disk jockeys on the radio did but instead of songs, they comment and show planes.
ycnz@reddit
Yup. You can find live streams of plenty of very teensy airports.
RBR927@reddit
Yes.

Shout out to the engineering of those landing gear struts, those tires, and the runway surface for not caving in under the weight of that behemoth
Betelguese90@reddit
Had the same thought back in December when we landed really hard. Was in a 737 into SBA. Pilot landed it like a F/A-18 Pilot on an aircraft carrier
F1T_13@reddit
I am also surprised the pilot committed to it. Maybe it was low on fuel or something, usually after something like this the pilot lights up the afterburners and goes round again.
Signal_Fisherman8848@reddit
Afterburners???
F1T_13@reddit
Not literally, just a colloquial for flooring it/full throttle.
Laymanao@reddit
Yep, a note to maintenance to do a main gear check. And wipe down the flight deck seats.

Steve Erwin reincarnated as an airplane watcher!!!
im_the_natman@reddit
I dunno, man. Controversial opinion, but the commentary from these videos always kinda bugged me. The vast, VAST majority of the time, the plane watchers are not in the industry and just enthusiats. Do we watch live streams of surgeons performing open heart surgery with a commentary by someone with WebMD open on another page? Do we watch Olympic sports with commentary by some bloke who ski jumps every other Saturday after a few pints with the lads?
Just my two cents. People can enjoy what they want, but I ultimately don't get any satisfaction from watching people commentate on pilot decisions from the security of the ground.
wotmate7@reddit
A common saying from Jerry (BigjetTV) is that the pilots deserve medals. He never really criticises them, the entertainment mainly comes from watching their brave struggle against the difficult weather.
But I'm not saying you're wrong, everyone gets their opinion

unsounded for once, the dude and the plaine sound/look like WRC rally
Maldivesblue@reddit
Thatâs edging closer to a crash than a hard landing.
majorassburger@reddit
I think this was a REALLY windy day, like notably so
The_Ashamed_Boys@reddit
I kept thinking they were about to reject the landing since they kept the nose off for so long. I was waiting for the spoilers to close. Needs to get that nose down asap.
kschischang@reddit
Does that not increase drag having the AOA like that?
The_Ashamed_Boys@reddit
You do have some aerodynamic drag, but you can't get full braking effectiveness until the nose is down and you get all the weight on the wheels.
Silmarlion@reddit
Doesnât look like it would register as hard landing but certainly above 1.7-1.8g.
hacourt@reddit
Love the air breaking f16 action.
MacGibber@reddit
Wow that nose didnât want to come down did it!
wizzardyls@reddit
Windshear for sure, held well
Jester__13@reddit
This was absolutely worth unmuting.

Any estimation on how long that front gear was up? Lol
drumjojo29@reddit
Counting from touch down of the left main gear at 0:02 to touchdown of the front gear at 0:20 about 18 seconds.
According to this document from Airbus (page 228), the final approach speed at maximum landing weight is 147kt. Of course it wouldâve slowed down further after the main gear touched down and weâd have to subtract the wind because thatâs probably the indicated air speed (I guess, no idea), but calculating with that number, the aircraft travelled about 1.350 Meters before finally touching down completely.
RBR927@reddit
Why estimate when you can watch the video
