C-160 Transall
Dilly_The_Kid_S373@reddit
Never knew these existed until now
Sacharon123@reddit
Awwww! Where was she?
Fine_Store7959@reddit (OP)
Standing still at the airport for 5 years
Corpsguy04@reddit
I knew the Mighty Herc was old, but didn’t know it was prone to male pattern baldness.
Fine_Store7959@reddit (OP)
Not a Herc it’s a C-160 Transall
Azurehue22@reddit
Big 👏 nose 👏
FZ_Milkshake@reddit
Museum?
Fine_Store7959@reddit (OP)
Nope it’s going to fly as a firefighting aircraft probably in Australia it’s currently in Germany
FZ_Milkshake@reddit
That makes me happy, didn't know that someone still wants to keep them flying, I thought their days in the air were over.
ScottOld@reddit
Australia have a couple flying still I think
vorky@reddit
For the childish ... one has the rego VH-TIT ... tee hee. But yes, final fit out and certification is underway for fire bombing activities. They had two operating out of Toowoomba Wellcamp over the last week doing test drops over a local farm paddock (with permission).
Waste-Internal-1443@reddit
See YT Transall Australia.....
MidlandsSpotter@reddit
Is this Zweibrucken?
Fine_Store7959@reddit (OP)
👍
Thurak0@reddit
Ouch. What's the ferry range of one? Wiki doesn't have it... 2500km or something? Sounds like a lot of stops on the way
SquirrelMoney8389@reddit
I really enjoy flying this plane in the simulator. There was one purchased for Australia, and I recreated the real ferry flight from Europe to AU.
ecco311@reddit
Oh, firs time I'm reading that. That's really cool actually.
mencival@reddit
AdriftSpaceman@reddit
Hahahahahahahaha! You almost made me spit my coffee!
NoProfessor6700@reddit
Same! Laughing and choking at the same time 😂
Ok_Needleworker2438@reddit
Sure ya did pal. Sure ya did...
AdriftSpaceman@reddit
Yeah, I did. Was reading this with a mug of coffee and a chocolate biscuit after my lunch. Sadly I didn't record it for internet strangers.
This joke got me real hard for two reasons, first was I found the livery detail very weird it caught my eye. Second one, I'm a Brazilian, it's a former German plane and at first I didn't understand the joke. Then it hit me it was the haircut and the weird paint job.
guessimcooking@reddit
The fact that you had to explain so much makes your comment and absolute lie.
AdriftSpaceman@reddit
That's called a conversation. Not my fault if you guys don't know how to have one. Some pilots really live up to the stereotype, it seems.
Ok_Needleworker2438@reddit
Wow so glad you are okay!!!
YU_AKI@reddit
Don't be a wazzock
Vau8@reddit
Lucky you. Exhaled mine through my nose.
AdriftSpaceman@reddit
Watch out for the fun police!
immunotransplant@reddit
Why are they standing so close?
Jessie_C_2646@reddit
The camera focal length makes it look like they're closer than they are.
triggerfish1@reddit
I hate to nitpick, but would like this "myth" to go away. The optical effect only depends on the distance to the object, not on the focal length. Of course you typically will be further away with a tele lens, but you could just as well take a wide angle length and zoom in digitally, giving the same optical compression.
MinuteBid8615@reddit
When starting any prop plane, we usually stand inline with the pilots or further back to maintain a visual incase comms fail. Dude makes me nervous.
mav3r1ck92691@reddit
He is inline with the pilots, it’s just the camera angle that makes it look like it. The plane is not parked square to the line in front of it.
shrunkenhead041@reddit
Pilots come off the brakes by accident, this guy is ground beef.
estcst@reddit
I’d seen that in an Indiana jones film one time.
Double_Time_@reddit
In case the props overspeed they can grab them in time
Simon_Mendelssohn@reddit
I dunno but I was worried he was gonna reenact this
No_Cartoonist5836@reddit
You can see when he walks away he walks directly across and passes in front of the nose of the plane. He’s not nearly as close as the video makes it seem.
wingnutkj@reddit
Needed a beard trim.
hawkeye18@reddit
HOW COME HE GOT A FIVE HEAD
threemilesfinal@reddit
Long start on those engines but what a sound! Almost like the RR Darts found on the Hawker 748.
I remember seeing these flying through Goose Bay years ago.
supernaut_707@reddit
The first time I've seen a plane with a receding hairline.
BiggyShake@reddit
C-160 looks like someone put a C-130 in a 'Planes' movie and forgot to paint the face on it.
timdav8@reddit
A little chonker 😋
1320Fastback@reddit
When the props look like they are changing direction three times you know they are hauling ass!
jawshoeaw@reddit
When they stop turning for a second, I bet the maintenance guy stick their arms in between
jawshoeaw@reddit
You know at some point if you insist on making them bigger and bigger … you can put those spinny things on top of the aircraft . I forget what that’s called but it seems to work pretty well.

Bigbang-Seeowhee@reddit
"Let's film this in portrait mode so the plane never fits the image"
banana597@reddit
But the view of the sky and concrete is unparalleled
Vau8@reddit
Equipped with propellers that had a diameter of 5.50 meters. At the time of their introduction and for a long time thereafter, these four-bladed propellers were considered the largest in the world (for this type of aircraft).
WHAT?
EQUIPPED...
Farewell, Brumsel.

cryptolyme@reddit
people in here really can't take a joke
MKUltraSonic@reddit
Haha, yep..
SprayDizzy628@reddit
Did that just spool up in one direction then switch directions?? Or is that just an optical illusion?
Caligulaonreddit@reddit
aliasing

Why is there a little kid in the cockpit
Fine_Store7959@reddit (OP)
This aircraft isn’t military owned anymore is is a civilian aircraft it’s probably family of one of the mechanics
ratpatty@reddit
du hast ein bischen Flugzeug in deiner SpeedTape
Significant-Ad-341@reddit
Man I miss working ground ops for propeller planes. Most fun I've ever had on the job.
