It's a desolate post-apocalyptic wasteland, criss-crossed with roads, and with several massive words carved into the earth in places where districts once were, which are used as territory markers for the gangs.
The only remains of civilization is the shelter known as "Gulliver's Land", named after the person who saw the catastrophy before it happened, and built a haven for the few who survived the event. Huddled together among fairground rides, we eeek out a living, battling the elements, the gangs, and the constant drone of traffic crossing the grid roads.

Don't forget the giant radioactive dinosaurs roaming about. They love eating newcomers

(It's actually very nice. Really green, lots of parks, well planned segregation between driving, living, and pedestrians. The town center is a bit of a generic dump, but the attached villages have a cozy vibe to them. No university, so there's a lack of young people and the cultural change/activities/bars that brings with it.)

There's the Open University.

Mainly online and you don’t get “real” students
Freedom-For-Ever@reddit
Many of the Cranfield University students live in MK.

I went to Gullivers Land but after seeing it decided I would rather take my chances with the gangs… 😅😂
Timely_Cake_917@reddit
Gulliver's about to get banned by the BBC
Grgsz@reddit
With so many green space and parks like no other town in the uk.

Can’t compare living in another city because I haven’t. However. There are good and bad about it as with most places.
I love the grid system. Getting anywhere is very quick and we have so much here regarding shops. Most shops are within 10-15 minutes. Green space is amazing and there’s always something going on. Lots of good schools.
Central mk is becoming a bit shit unfortunately but the outer parts are lovely to live. Loads of shit drivers, chavs are more on the rise, weed is everywhere. However I don’t mind people smoking it. It’s the crime that can come along with it.
jwar9@reddit
Moving soon, appreciate the insight. The city center definitely threw me off but I’m most concerned about where ppl go out w/o a real center square. I found ppl out at Midsummer Tap, anywhere else where I can really enjoy a drink out
nkshaf@reddit
It depends where you live. Wolverton has the Crauford Arms which has great shows and there's a couple of pubs in town, though i can't vouch for those. Stony Stratford has great pubs and restaurants and it's fun to spend a night out there and do a bit of a pub crawl. The Hub in the centre has a lot of restaurants and drinking spots, probably where you'll find a lot of younger people. The biggest problem in MK is that is big, and that's a lot of distance between the "hot spots" in the centre. There's also two Wetherspoons in the centre. I think the one on Midsummer is nicer.
StanleyChuckles@reddit
The Craufurd Arms is great for gigs, it's a shame that every band I've seen there the crowd has been awful.
jwar9@reddit
Thanks so much! Will definitely look into em, still haven’t settled on where I wanna live yet but rly excited and looking forward to exploring more of the town

There's lots of stuff to do around here if you look for it! I've been here for 4 years and I'm still discovering new stuff all the time. There's a couple of small breweries popping up these days. We're really partial to Blackened Sun Brewery in Stacey Bushes, they also have a little coffee spot, Barista Culture in there as well, and they do cocktails in addition to beer. It's on the small side, but a great spot, more of a local spot for people that tend to walk over, but it's definitely worth checking out. Everything they do is really good. That's the best part of Milton Keynes, tons of random stuff everywhere. Kiln Farm has a great artist collective if you're into anything like that. I think the northwest of the city is the best place to live anywhere in the Wolverton/Stony/Central MK area. The closer to the primary shopping areas of those areas you can get the better, for ease of other than work activities.
SpartanG188@reddit
Unfortunately can’t help with that one. Not really a social drinker but there are a lot of pubs about.

I love living in Milton Keynes.

I lived in the centre (by the shopping centre) for a year and absolutely hated it, I was harassed by people on drugs/ alcohol, they broke into the apartment block and lived under the stairwell, I was paying £1300 for a two bed flat, the only thing to do was go to the gym, shopping centre, chain shops and restaurants. There was a sex working living in my building who WFH. There are green spaces but I never felt comfortable going to alone. Genuinely curious how other people find it a nice way of life. I have grown up rurally in the southwest so I understand my normal is different to people who grow up in cities. (F22 at the time). I moved out to the countryside after that and lived in a pretty village about 20 mins away, while it was much better, I still felt the areas lacked any real soul.

I’ve lived in other cities and been in MK for over 15 years. I like the greenery with lots of parks / lakes and driving is easy and parking isn’t too expensive. It is a shame that it lacks history and things like museums.

I live in nearby Leighton Buzzard, very nice! So many walks.
In terms of MK itself, you need to think of Milton Keynes differently from every other city in the UK. Milton Keynes has multiple different areas, some of which are individual towns in their own right (for example Stony Stratford). Living here, is going to be massively different from living somewhere near the centre where all the shops are. The best way to think of Milton Keynes is this an inverse city with the historic cute parts on the outside and the industrial/retail sections in the middle.
antitrollpatrol@reddit
I love it. Moved here 5 years ago. Live on a nice quiet street and have every shop you could think of on your doorstep. We have full walk ways away from main roads for most of the city. We have lakes, parks and the canal. You have a bit of everything here… the V and H roads mean you’re never really stuck in traffic for long periods. We have country pubs and nice restaurants along with good transport links.
rainbow-songbird@reddit
None of me or my friends I grew up in MK with still live there. Not sure if that's because there are few affordable days out and things to do beyond walking around a lake or shopping; The house prices; Or just my friends and I were just not fans.
We did like to joke the best thing to do in MK is leave.
There's nothing particularly wrong with it its just There's nothing particularly right with it either. It lacks soul.
yadayada457@reddit
I love Milton Keynes. We live just outside, I love visiting, for shopping/the football/cinema etc. It’s easy to get to, easy to travel around, loads of parking & loads of green spaces. The perfect City!
slimemouldy@reddit
Well... we've got Greggs, quite a few of them actually. So there's that.
And... Weatherspoons, mustn't forget them.
What else? A couple of SunTan Emporiums, a hand full of charity shops, a fist full of Kebab vans the odd curry house and a good Funeral Directors
I mean what else could you ask for in a mid sized town in the middle of nowhere in particular.
MLC1974@reddit
Midway between London and Birmingham, close enough to many other cities such as Oxford and Cambridge.
London is 30 mins away by train so great for commuting.
Lots of green spaces, decent facilities, generally low traffic levels, and pretty decent for shopping. Close to some lovely places like Woburn, and the Chilterns are close by.
Local job market is better than most other parts of the UK.
Downsides are it can look quite bland and soulless, and it has no real 'centre' to speak of.
It also has a bit of an identity crisis. Officially in the South East, although too far north to be geographically be so, but also too far south to be East Midlands. Local TV news often lumps it in with the East of England, which is frankly laughable, especially when it's broadcast from Norwich. Some people get their local TV from Southampton which is equally ridiculous.

Great if you have a vehicle, terrible if you reply on public transport.

My life improved immeasurably when I passed my driving test.
simon8383@reddit
I lived here for 5 months, I loved it, everything is conveniently located, there are good bike paths, if you need to go to London its half an hour by train, I like the gastro pubs that you can also just ride your bike to, I thought the gyms were good, I was there by myself but some areas looked very family friendly, the city is ugly but its 100 % efficient, I enjoyed seeing delivery robots utilize the highly efficient bike paths. wasn't too far from Luton airport for travel, rent seemed kind of expensive for the location, the shopping center was quite good too, I don't know it just ticked many boxes for me
