I wanted to buy a used cpu and i wanted to see how my cpu looked like for refferance before i buy it. After placing it back the pc turns on but doesnt boot, please help.
Ive tried reseating the ram, CPU, and GPU
prank_mark@reddit
Did you take out the RAM as well? Because it looks like they're currently in the wrong slots
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
I tried reseating them, thats why
prank_mark@reddit
Try them in the correct slots and see if that works
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Removing the 2 sticks of 4 and leaving the 8gig one worked, the issue is they dont work together..
prank_mark@reddit
Could be that your RAM is just dead. Send it for RMA as they usually have a lifetime warranty.
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
whats rma
prank_mark@reddit
Repair or replacement of a defective product by the manufacturer
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Ok so none of them are faulty, if i put one 8 with one 4 it works, if i put both of them in it doesnt. If i take the one that i just put in that made the pc not work and take out the one that does, it works. Whats happening
aragorn18@reddit
Mixing RAM is always risky. The safest option is to have a matched pair.
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
I dont, but it worked fine till now, i cant get them to work all 3 again, whenever the 2 4 gigs are connected at the same time the pc stops booting, if only one is connected it works
prank_mark@reddit
What about just the 2x4 gb without the 8gb?
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Ok something really fucking weird is going on, i tried one stick of 4 in b2 and it didnt work, i put it in a2 and it started working, wtf is going on
prank_mark@reddit
That's why your manual specifies which slots you should use in which configuration
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
where can i find the manual?
prank_mark@reddit
Look up the name of your motherboard and look up the manual on the website of the manufacturer
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
I managed to get it to work by just changing them around randomly
aragorn18@reddit
I'm glad it's working for you now. But, this episode should show how unstable it is to mix RAM kits.
If I were you I would start looking for deals on a matched pair of RAM. Either a single 2x8GB kit or a 2x16GB kit.
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
impossible without paying at least 100$
aragorn18@reddit
I understand. Having stuff that works often costs money. Now you are aware of the need and can start planning.
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
No, do you know why?
RiVaL_GaMeR_5567@reddit
It's the RAM probably, take out the stick in the light gray slot
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Ok so you we re right it is the ram, it only works when i use the one stick of 8gb when i put the two sticks of 4 it stops booting
TheOriginalKrampus@reddit
Did the ram work before?
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Of course
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Still no signal
Tedashee_68@reddit
Did you put the cpu back in the socket in the correct orientation? You have to line up the corner with the gold triangle with the triangle on the socket.
XGreenDirtX@reddit
Is the CPU fan still connected?
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Yes
XGreenDirtX@reddit
So what exactly does the pc do? Does it turn on and go into the booting options, or does your screen stay black? Does the pc automatically turn off again? Take us along in the process a bit. Also share what you did.
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
Screen stays black, and it stays on
Captain_Nipples@reddit
You should have 3 or 4 colored LEDs when you first turn on your PC. Does it hang up on one of those colors when you turn it on? There should be a label beside each light that says "CPU, RAM, GPU, etc"
RiVaL_GaMeR_5567@reddit
Try resetting the bios and post pics of the cpu and socket so we can see if there's any damage
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
How can i reset the bios?
RiVaL_GaMeR_5567@reddit
See the
'CLR_CMOSpins? Turn off your pc and short those 2 pins with a screwdriver for 20-30s and power it back on. Or you can remove the CMOS battery(button cell somewhere)AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
i removed the cmoss and waited for 5 min still doesnt boot
Diedead666@reddit
You need to leave it out for like 20 minutes honestly it's happened to me you need to give it a lot of time. I had the same issue resetting simos I was just being too impatient
RiVaL_GaMeR_5567@reddit
Try power cycling then, turn off pc, plug out power and hold power button for 30s. If that doesn't help it might be something physical. Try using a diff port/gpu/igpu to display
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
didnt work
Accomplished_Emu_658@reddit
Did you upgrade the bios? The cpu won’t work until bios is updated
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
its a 5 1600 and the bios is fine, i didnt upgrade it this is the cpu i already had
FrozenQueen15@reddit
Are all cables seated? Had a similar problem and it turned out it was just a dislodged cpu power cable
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
The only cable i removed was the cpu fan so its not that
Photog2985@reddit
Post a picture of the pins and the CPU socket. I know you say they're fine, but it definitely sounds like a bent pin.
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
i just did
Federal-Guava-5119@reddit
Check bent pins. And did you align the cpu the right way? Which cpu is it
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
I aligned it right obviously otherwise it wouldnt go in, its a ryzen 5 1600
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
I did, the pins are completely fine
kmkm2op@reddit
Since the pins are fine, did you mount the cooler back on properly? Also if the thermal paste has dried and the cpu is no longer contacting it, you will need to repaste it as there is minimal heat transfer which will prevent the cpu from working as a safety measure.
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
The thermal paste is not that dry, it still sticks to my fingers but the layer is a bit thin and spotty
n_cap666@reddit
maybe u destroyed ur cpu? did u look how its pins are looking like?
AyoTerryFukGoinOn@reddit (OP)
I did, the pins are completely fine
