Don't beat yourself up over it. The reason (among many) those machines are valuable now it the "culling of the herd" where machines were disposed of as junk and not horded away in closets like mine. I don't know if the effort is worth it but I'm use to not having a usable closet by now. Now I'm retired and I have started looking around in there to see what younger me was thinking.
