What was the cliche name for nightspots in the 80s?

From watching old Crimewatch episodes it seems to be:
Hacienda
Rio
Malibu

Cinderella Rockefeller's
JustRentDartford@reddit
There was one in Cambridge, were there others?
FlashyProject1318@reddit

We had The Blue Orchid in Croydon which always made me think of the Blue Oyster in Police Academy.

I miss them all so much ! I’ve been out in California for 26 years and still remember all my old Sheffield haunts: Josephine’s Romeo and Juliet’s The Fiesta (Grab a Grandad) The Pink Panther The Crazy Daisy And where the legends played The Limit The Leadmill Then pre-club there was Rebels and The Wap (Wapentake) Ahhhh them were t’days

In my town it was Vienna’s 🤣
Weird_Ad_7129@reddit
My home town had Rotters (no idea!), 7th Heaven, and Main Line. The last of which was by the railway of course...Main Line was definitely the best for getting served at as a tall 16 year old!

Cinatra’s in Croydon. Rough as hell. The bouncers would search you for weapons and if you didn’t have one they’d lend you one.

Ritzy. Think it was a chain of 'discotheques'...
Dear god, I sound like someone's nan 😂
THXORY@reddit
Ritzy was more 1990s I think
TheLadyHelena@reddit
Late 80s, anyway. The internet doesn't seem to know exactly when nightclubs across the UK morphed into Ritzy (Ritzies?), and I'm not checking Companies House 😂
THXORY@reddit
I remember the one near me was called "The Studio" until it changed to "The Ritzy" in 1994, and instantly got the unimaginative nickname "The Shitzy"
upsidedowncreature@reddit
Remember to always pronounce it "disco-thet-i-queues" as per Mark Radcliffe.
There was only one Hacienda, it wasn't a cliche, it was legendary. Shame I never actually went there.

I did enjoy the occassional racy variety act at the local music hall back in the day.

We had Millenium in Plymouth. It took over a building from Sgt Peppers, Blondz and Oz.

There was a club in a small colloquial town in the west country my family moved to in the 80’s and it was called ’Ere Tiz. It’s how you say ‘Here it is’ in the area. 😅
neilm1000@reddit
There used to be a pub in Plymouth that had 'yur tiz' on one of those pointy finger signs instead of one saying 'toilets.'
PassiveTheme@reddit
I'm from the north west and that's how I'd say 'here it is' too
harrietmjones@reddit
That’s very true tbh! The only difference is the accent. ☺️

I worked on the door of a few, Tropicana Beach, then renamed The Colisseum, Ronelle's, The Mad Hatter Club, Legends, Caesar's Palace and the Ritzy.
I'm sure there are plenty of places around the country that had the same names; all of these were in Luton or Dunstable.
