Have been in the caves in Carthage and Springfield Mo several times and I like it other then losing cell signal in them that does suck but for manuaverability in them its pretty damn good just watch when you do have tome around some of them pillars of rock some of them do have a tendency to jump out and snag the tandems seen the aftermath of one guy that did that sucked to be him too
I used to deliver to a lot of them around Kansas City. The ones in Springfield, Missouri are the nicest ones. The worst one is in Kansas City off of Truman Boulevard. That is a shit hole.
I used to deliver in the KCMO caves all the time. I also saw drivers who were afraid to enter, and maybe that was justified. In 1999 or so, there was a Navajo trailer (Whatever happened to THAT company?) that was pushed back in a corner, half crushed from a piece of ceiling that fell on it
I was excited! Most excited I've been to deliver somewhere since starting out. Though the thought of it caving in definitely crossed my mind lmao. Navajo is still around, I see them pretty often in and around new Mexico - southern California. But man, that's gotta have been rough. Bet dispatch tried to blame the driver.
I work in the caves. Very tight backing, even for a daycab. It’ll test even the best OTR drivers bc most of them are rattled and off their game while in the caves. So just calm down, and take it slow.
After working in a coal mine me no like underground places. Stick me in an engine pay with just enough space to move my arms im good. Put me anywhere underground claustrophobic no matter how big the room
That place has everything. Refrigerated food, flash frozen food, court documents, road salt, etc. It's nicknamed the cheese caves but has far more than that.
I thought it would smell... i dunno. Cavey? 😂 you know what i mean, right? Like when you go in a cave and it has that earthy, damp smell that is... honestly just a delight. I love it.
It does smell a bit cavey in the deeper, less developed parts of it. I was told that if you drove down each section, it'd take you all day and you'd never cross the same path. A good portion of it is still under construction and it's pretty spooky!
I'm not sure. I don't even think the guy giving me the tour knew either haha. The one I went to is in Springfield. I assume that's the one OP went to as well but there are a few other underground warehouses in Missouri. I think the Springfield one is the largest though
mostly surplus cheese. the U.S. government maintains a massive strategic stockpile of over 1.4 billion pounds of cheese, largely stored in underground caves in Missouri.
Something about when they started with the reduced fat milk and dairy products farmers had excess cream and the government was subsidizing them and bought the cheese made from it. The same reason the government food pyramid had so much dairy on it to help the farmers even though we didn't need that much. Another reason why the government gave away cheese to poor people because they had so much of it.
Delivered there a few times, was disappointed once when they told me to leave it in the drop lot for a drop and hook delivery. Didn't even get to go down there

I saw a conspiracy post about this cave or one like it. Dude was claiming all the people parked there were " running from something"
captaincootercock@reddit
ain't we all running from something though?
LucHighwalker@reddit (OP)
I'm pretty sure they just work there lmao

domoslurpies@reddit
I got to go down there last year to pick up a bunch of steel and got a personal tour out of it. It's a cool place! Literally lol
supernova-juice@reddit
I bet! I can almost feel the air in that space. What does it smell like?
domoslurpies@reddit
You'd think it'd smell like diesel fumes but surprisingly there wasn't much of a smell at all. Maybe a slight musty warehouse scent haha
supernova-juice@reddit

Independence Missouri. Do they still make you shut off the truck? It’s absolutely hell during the summer, luckily it’s still cool outside.
