Reasonably, what’s the beefiest rear hub motor e-bike under 1500. Want a e-bike without the price tag. Could go for a nice conversion kit under 500 bucks? Want to start the hobby, but got minimum wage. West coast Californian. Brother. 🤘🤘. What’s my best choice?

Philodo wildeway

Just a rear hub? because a Philodo Forester Dual hub is just under your range and can be riddewn in single motor when you don't need the extra power and traction

Under 1500 is doable if you are ok with 15Ah. Battery is you biggest hurdle. From there you can go mid drive or hub. I went mid drive since I have a full suspension. Battery was around 650 and motor was (back then) 300. BBSHD @ 33A. Will be doing the 3000w conversion once by other battery is built.

How fast can you get on this thing?

On a fresh charge with better tires, about 40.

A beefy high power kit + battery under $1500 is doable, but under $500 is not going to really happen.
If you have a solid frame to build on, and you want the best bang for your $, consider a mid-drive conversion.
I built mine using a NS Surge Evo frame. The BBS02 kit + 48V 20aH battery pack cost me around $800. The frame itself + all of the components was probably around $1K.
I am really happy with the performance of this build, I don't think I could buy something nearly as good for under $2K. The only thing I would change is torque sensing instead of cadence.
Otherwise this thing is a beast that will climb nearly anything, has plenty of power, and very respectable range. It works great on pavement, gravel, and single track.
