Worst customer service you've ever got from a firearms manufacturer?

I saw somebody recently post about a favorite gun manufacturers so I thought I would go to the opposite direction.
which company has had the poorest customer service that you have ever dealt with?
for me personally, it's been a mix between Springfield and Smith and wesson. Smith and Wesson is just slow and sometimes they don't really want to fool with your issue especially if it's not a common issue.
I haven't dealt with Springfield for years but I bought a brand new XDS years ago and it was malfunctioning like crazy with every type of ammo. they really didn't offer any help and getting it fixed so I just sold it.
Distinct_Chair3047@reddit
Kel Tec.
I have a RFB. It's a $1500 bolt action. I've never been able to get it to cycle a mag completely withput jamming. I contacted Kel Tec, they initially blew me off. I posted on a Social Media avenue they were heavily in at the time about the experience and they reached put to me finally. Got through the entire paperwork, only needed a Shipping label that they said theyd send me, then they ghosted me.
I still have that RFB. It's a reminder to me. Still doesn't work.
thepersonbrody@reddit
Huh. Kel-Tec usually has decent customer service. I wonder if you just got shafted by an employee who was having a bad time.
renegadeGDI@reddit
CZ and Langdon Tactical, both companies refused to fix their mistake.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
I’ve bought a couple of LTT guns. When I had to replace a couple of small parts, think work bench in a cluttered garage and springs, their CS was very rude. To the point that I was like bro, when is your lunch break? Because your shop is like 10 minutes from me. Very frustrating CS.
HideTheKnife@reddit
At some point I really wanted a LTT PX4 Storm, but I've heard to many complaints about their CS. Seems like if you get a gun with no issues out of the box they are freaking awesome, but the second you need something fixed you're fucked
FantasticBed2688@reddit
Exactly!
Underwater_Karma@reddit
Not firearm company, but ammo
Freedom Munitions - ordered 3 cases of 9mm 115gr reman at an ok price.
After reliably getting 2-3 failure to cycle every magazine, i dug out my Chrono and reliably clocked then at sub 1000fps. Checked carts from all three cases, all the same
Contacted they support with the data and their response was "nobody else has complained". Then they blocked my email .
Garbage company, garbage product
Haruspex_Rex@reddit
I’ve only had good experiences with them. The products I’ve bought have been as reliable as any. They did contact m about some .38 special ammo I bought. They had recalled it (about 3 weeks after I received it). Sent it back and they replaced it quickly. Never did tell me exactly what hat the problem with it was and I thought they should’ve given me some extra or a coupon or something for my troubles, but they made me whole, so I can’t complain too much.
What blows my mind is how different people can have entirely different experiences with a company. I always wonder why and if it’s the company or the individual or a combination of the two.
Underwater_Karma@reddit
Freedom musicians has gone through a bankruptcy and changed ownership three times since I dealt with them.
They May very well have completely reworked their business practices, but once I write a company off they're dead to me.
AuthoritariWrongdoer@reddit
Freedom munitions has probably blown up more guns on Reddit than the rest combined. Horrible company.
Underwater_Karma@reddit
They've gone through at least one bankruptcy and two changes of ownership since I dealt with them so it's possible things have changed.
But I see no reason to throw more money at a brand that's that thoroughly tainted.
CockWranglerForHire1@reddit
Well fuck. I just got around 4K rounds from them in various 9 and 300.
I shot a small amount of my initial purchase a month ago with no issue and just went big after that.
If it blows my poverty pony up I'll be very sad.
RandomAmerican81@reddit
I've shot hundreds of 10mm and 5.56 from freedom, no issues yet.
CockWranglerForHire1@reddit
Good to hear. Hopefully I get the same experience.
For whatever reason they have some of the cheaper 300 manufactured stateside that isn't strictly reman so I bought in bulk, and as of the last range trip that's the only 300 ammo I have now.
Gyp2151@reddit
Freedom is owned by John Deere, just an FYI.
Underwater_Karma@reddit
I'm not sure where that idea comes from, but Freedom Munitions is owned by Fernandez Holdings, a private investment holding company
JJ12345678910@reddit
That sounds verbatim like the response I got from Hy-Tek in regards to their WMS. I wonder if there is a shared training center for these folks some where.
Quw10@reddit
Freedom Munitions refused to ship me .50bmg API ammo despite Indiana not being on their list of states they won't ship it to because DNR rules prohibit incendiary ammo on their land. Which is stupid because you can't shoot .50bmg on DNR land to begin with.
NoGear1489@reddit

Underwater_Karma@reddit
It gets really old checking for squibs every shot
NoGear1489@reddit
oh failure to cycle. Lord yea fuck that.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
I ordered from them one time when they first got started. I bought a bunch of the ammo for a training class. I didn't have any issues but I never did order from them again. For a while they were actually producing cheap ammo but as the cost went up, it just didn't make any sense to buy from them.

g1Razor15@reddit
Taurus, they didn't fix my shit the first time and I had to send my gun back again
SuperTrashPanda@reddit
Glock Store. Took them six weeks plus to ship an FFL item. Multiple emails and nothing. Finally used the “text customer service” number and it was shipped same day.
SuperTrashPanda@reddit
Flip side I had great customer service from Benelli. Sent my shotgun in they let me know when they got it, estimated completion date and then notified me when it shipped. Even followed up to see if I tested it and the issue was resolved. Not to mention the CS rep was super nice good old boy that was super stoked to help.
scramtron@reddit
I got a 9mm 1911 from Springfield and had to send it back twice before it cycled properly. It's still finicky as hell, but now I can get more than 2 rounds off before a jam.
MassiveAd2391@reddit
Rossi has horrible customer service after i got an RB17 with a .17 bore and a .22 WMR chamber
TacTurtle@reddit
.17 HMR?
MassiveAd2391@reddit
Supposed to be, but they used a .22 WMR chamber reamer, then marked it .17 HMR
DugBuck@reddit
Ruger told me to send my wrangler in for warranty but they said I had to call. The number they attached in the email was disconnected. Now they won't reply to my emails.
TacTurtle@reddit
Weird, Ruger CS has been pretty responsive for me on the ~8+ times I have reached out to them.
LHGunslinger@reddit
Try these numbers. Verified 4.10.26 for the following... Recall Call Center at 1-800-784-3701 is available Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m ET is not disconnected. Ruger Customer Service Telephone: 336-949-5200 (Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm ET) is not disconnect.
I have had nothing but positive experiences with Rugers customer support. Sounds like you either got lost in the system or had a confused customer service agent. Make sure a keep track of who you are speaking with as well as the time of day. If your problem is not solved in one or two phone calls. Ask to speak to a supervisor/manager.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
Thank you! Im glad my experience, which objectionably is singular, seems to be a one off and they take care of customers.
CobandCoffee@reddit
I've had the opposite experience with Ruger. They've always been great to me. Heck I essentially got a brand new LCR in .357 because I bought a used one that had issues. When I sent it in for service they offered to just replace it. Only thing I had to pay was an FFL transfer fee.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
So far, Ruger has been the only manufacturer I’ve dealt with that gave a parts number in the owner manual, and was not listed on their website store, either available, unavailable or discontinued.
GreatTea3@reddit
I bought an early RXM that had the chatter marks in the barrel. Called Ruger and they had a new barrel in the mail for me either the next day or the day after with absolutely no problems or bullshit. Call them direct and they’ll take care of you.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
The only time I've ever dealt with Ruger was ordering parts and they were great on that end. I've never had to contact them for any warranty work.
Now, a buddy of mine did carry an LCP as a backup and when he called them, they had it back to him in like 3 days. I don't remember what the issue was. I think it was a safety recall.
Candyman__87@reddit
I’ve sent two guns back and both were surprisingly good.
Sent my S&W made PPK back to Smith since the slide lock would override the magazine follower. They replaced it in 2-3 days and shipped it right back.
Likewise I was at a show and Taurus was there with their new hammerless 856’s. I asked if they were planning on making a hammerless 85 because I like the size of the 5 shot. They said no but I could send one in to get converted and gave me his card. Emailed him, got an RA and got my 85 back in a few days with a new spur-less hammer and the original parts back in the box.
FmaxTurboSi@reddit
my b&t apc9k experience was horrible due to east valley tacitcal and their so called "if you order through us and our distributor, we can guaranty the purchase" nonsense. And my suppressor re-coating service from B&t thas been been less than enthusiastic to say the least.
AuthoritariWrongdoer@reddit
B&T has been a shit show to the point where they are legally fighting with the Swiss company about the copyright. They probably won't even sell the Swiss made products anymore.
YourMomIsStillHot@reddit
Okay so what exactly was the issue?
AuthoritariWrongdoer@reddit
Worst: DS Arms. Loved the vibe of the FAL. For what it is it was ridiculously expensive gun that I could never get to work right. Not a fault of the design, but rather poor QC by DS Arms. When I first got it, it couldn't be disassembled because the bolt was so out of spec. They ended up also having to remill the receiver because that was out of spec as well. I got the rifle back after a couple months and paying for shipping back-and-forth only for the bolt hold open to not work. I suspect that had to do with the receiver still being out of spec in some areas. I tried replacing it with a surplus one and messing with the gas settings. Nothing worked. It was 50-50 whether it would hold open.
Ended up cutting my losses and selling it to somebody who was adamant that he could fix it up by going to a gunsmith.
Proof_Bathroom_3902@reddit
I'm an FFL. One answer. EAA. Pretty much worthless. They either say they can't help you or won't send parts.
However there's worse service out there, but we expected it. Any of those cheap Turkish gun companies, their US distributor is generally only an email drop that is never answered. And honestly at the price you have to know that's going to happen.

20g beretta a400 wouldn’t feed out of the box. Called beretta, they sent me a shipping label sent to Cole’s came back quickly alls good with the world
gunmedic15@reddit
When I worked at a range, we had a lot of rental guns that had heavy use.
Sig was the absolute worst. We would call for warranty or parts and they would be like "why don't you just order parts from somewhere on the internet?" Zero aftermarket support and bad attitudes.
Echo017@reddit
SIG USA (shocker)
HoneyBadger877@reddit
I haven’t personally had a bad customer service experience with a firearms manufacturer. I’ve only had to use Springfield and Ruger. Both were super polite, fast, and effectively resolved my issue. Ruger was a little faster and Springfield’s communication was a little better (just followed up more, called me and explained everything once they completed the work). Those experiences made me lifelong customers.
The brand I have beef with is Sig after the abysmal way they handled all of the publicity around the issues with the P320. My fiancé bought an M17 for $700 right before the big blow up happened and they made those awful public statements basically going “nuh uh” in response to people’s concerns.
Unfortunately, I think the P365 if the best CC gun on the market so I do carry that but if Springfield were to convert the hellcat to an FCU like the P365 and Echelon, I would switch in a heartbeat. I won’t buy another Sig gun after this.

Kimber. I ignored every warning about their hit and miss quality control and bought one of their 1911s, it was a dud out of the box. When I called to send it in the lady on the phone spent the entire call blaming me for their gun working like crap. I finally just said "neither my springfield nor my Ruger 1911 have any problems but yours is a brick out of the box. Is kimber going to make this right or not? The second that 1911 came back I sold it and have never even looked in the direction of a kimber again.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
Tie between CZ and SIG,and that was dealing with the L.E reps for both. Best? Walther. I had an issue that actual had me exchanging emails with the VP of Northern American sales to discuss and resolve.
xangkory@reddit
Just had to use Sig customer service and it was pretty good, almost as good as Walther. Walther got my gun back to me in a week and Sig took 10 days.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
Very cool! I’m glad they were good to you. I feel like the phrase “your experience may vary” is very applicable in the firearms industry.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
This is just a wild guess but I would say they are definitely up in their customer service right now with all the flack they've been getting.
I don't know what's happening in your area but I don't think my local gun shops take the p320 for trade. I know they have been banned from IDPA shoots.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
You’ll appreciate this story. The pi320 was one of my Dept’s authorized private purchase duty guns. The telenovela that is the p320 begins.
Every time some info, news, rumor was put out,I would ask “so, p320… we still good to carry?” Answer is yes.
During all this another authorized private purchase gun, CZP10c, “drops” out of level 2 duty holster as a Sgt entering a precinct locker room to change out for his shift. Immediately all CZ P10s are decked and shall not be carried and pulled from the list.
When they decided the deck the p320 they have a 2 week window to transition either to a dept 9mm Glock or one of few remaining authorized private purchase on the list.
What’s that you say? Why yes I did drive my happy ass to the range and promptly asked the firearms guy’s “if a p320 is unsafe, how is it unsafe in 2 weeks but safe right now, tomorrow and for the next 13 days?” Still waiting for the answer a year later.

Dad bought a “suppressor ready” CZ P09, sku on website and store and all advertising showed it should come with suppressor height sights. Gun came in, regular sights. Not a big deal, we thought, funny mistake but surely we can just call CZ and have them send us the sights.
Nope. They seemed surprised that it could even happen, but looked into it and came back with the “we reserve the right to change the configurations of our SKUs” defense. They had no idea if they were ever going to get those sights again, because apparently the catalogue had changed in Europe and they weren’t manufacturing them anymore and USA just hadn’t gotten the memo.
After some back and forth, to their credit, the guy was sympathetic and tried to direct my dad to some aftermarket sights that were like $70+shipping. Dad used that to leverage CS rep to give him something of roughly equal value - because again the gun was advertising everywhere including their own website as having tall sights - so he got 3 mags out of the ordeal.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
That reminds me of time I bought a Wilson Combat 9mm. Well, I was so excited to finally buy an actual WC handgun, I missed the fact that it did not have a front sight, my bad I know, but I was excited. By no front sight, I mean the barrel wasn’t even milled for a front sight. I would have been good with the gun as is and just tell people it’s a race gun! However, WC sends each gun with a fancy checklist with final check offs having the inspector’s initial to indicate they checked and it’s good. Well you guessed it, the portion for “fiber optic front sight” was initialed as being there and good. After much back and forth with the WC rep it basically came down to “if you can afford a WC, then you can afford to have it milled for a front sight.”
ASnakeNamedNate@reddit
Lmao that is wild that they even could find the guy to point and blame that he clearly fucked up but still told you to kick sand.
I found a Wilson Combat Stealth in a used section for a little more than 1800. I thought “I can get a Wilson Combat for the price of a Kimber 2K11, and I don’t have a CCO, I am not going to have this opportunity again”.
So I snap bought it and didn’t quite connect that the previous owner had installed the flat wire recoil spring in it so it has a bit of an overbite (and is a pain to reassemble). It also has a pretty bright ramp and throat which, given the other mod, I do have a brainworm thinking dude may have polished it, but it functions and is mainly a
FantasticBed2688@reddit
They totally did not give a damn. To make it worse, my wife was there when I bought the gun and when I discovered that it didn’t have a front sight. Now, every time I bring home a new gun the first question she has is “does this one have the front aimer thingy?” FML…

My best friend was a Firearms instructor at our regional Police academy for years and he could not stand Sig Sauer lol. He hated dealing with them and he even hated going to their training classes.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
An old beat partner of mine just went to our Firearms Detail and he said Glock has amazing LE customer service. Which he believes is one of the many reasons they hold such a strong share of the LE market. I can only imagine what HK, “we hate our civilian customers and want them to know it”, must be like to deal with.
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
Dude, I spent my career as a Firearms instructor and department armorer. Glock is on a whole another level when it comes to customer service. They know their damn products so well that they can usually tell you what's wrong with the gun before you get off the phone.
I have never had a problem with Glock customer service. As a matter of fact, they told me about issues before that I didn't even know existed and they just volunteered that information to me.
This is going to date me but when the OD Green Glocks were popular way back in the day, I was randomly having a conversation with customer service over an issue and the guy started telling me about how they were having a problem with the frames fading due to officers being out in very hot environments where the UV was high.

worst customer service in the entire gun adjacent world. no help to customers with shipping issues, they have it as an official policy up on their website that once a product has been delivered to a commerical carrier it is no longer the responsibility of HSP. wont communicate with you, I had a shipping memo get created but never be given to USPS, they cant say USPS lost it when USPS claims they never received it so the postmaster couldnt even help me. ended up having to do a chargeback that HSP disputed with my bank

Smith & Wesson. A little over a decade ago I was working at a gun store. A customer purchased an M&P Compact 9mm. They went to our range to shoot it and the slide was binding. They brought it back to the customer service desk and I looked at it. The recoil spring assembly was either installed broken or failed after assembly.
I called S&W, explained the issue and asked for a replacement guide rod/recoil spring assembly to be shipped to us. I was pulling one from another gun in inventory to get the customer squared away, they said the whole gun had to be sent in. I explained we were a S&W platinum dealer (nomenclature has since changed), they said the whole gun needed to be shipped back to them. I emailed them pictures of the part and explained I was a certified S&W M&P armorer and sent a copy of my certification via email. They said the whole gun had to be shipped back.
Got the customer taken care of and shipped the other donor gun from inventory back with the defective part and they got the repair processed the same day it arrived because the only thing they did was replace the part.

Man, I don't know what it is with Smith & Wesson but they have so many damn QC issues.
One of my local gun stores had received a whole batch of pistols that people were returning because they weren't feeding. Smith and Wesson gave them a hard time for it.
You can't really say it's user error when you got 10 guys coming back to the gun store reporting problems.

Used to be a big walther fanboi, then I had to deal with "send the whole thing to arkansas with copies of all your receipts and fill out this info packet" for little shit like plastic pieces of the CCP striker assembly, a tiny nut under the rear sight, a pin... Like I WILL GIVE YOU MONEY just let me buy it - but only way to get it is through their slowass CS and then they send the wrong parts - so you do it again with diagrams, pictures, illustrations - so they send you 5 more of the SAME WRONG PART. Went from six walthers to one: F all that.
TheThrillerExpo@reddit
I called Smith and Wesson today to finally talk to them about a holster I’ve been meaning to get for an Equalizer. I can’t find a holster I’m happy with for it so I called to ask if a different pattern gun like a shield would fit but the best the lady could come up with was to look at crossbreed or alien gear.

CMMG! Bought an upper for an ar15 from them. Had issues extracting brass. Looked for a phone number from them turns out they don't do phone calls. Spent a week and a half getting one email a day from them before they finally asked me to send it in. When I got it back it couldn't hold more than a 2 moa group at 100 yds. They over reamed the old barrel instead of just swapping it. I bought a new barrel for it just recently and fixed the problem. Spent almost a G on that upper and now I tell everyone not to get anything CMMG.

I bought a sig p320 when they were newer I got it in the full sized 45 ACP. Upon purchase it felt nice after about one magazine the slide had tons of wiggle. The store I bought it from had a range so I hadn’t been anywhere else. So I asked them about it. They told me to talk to Sig so I went home and called the number I had got to customer service. Told them about it and how if I carried it now it sounded like I had change in my pocket it was moving so much and how it made me nervous to shoot. They told me that what I was saying wasn’t possible and to take it to the lgs I bought it from. So I went back to the store talked to them they were like that sucks we have the frames let’s try transferring the fire control group and slide to a new frame since it’s modular. They did so no charge. The employee and I went to the range after and shot it after a mag it did the same thing. Very loose. So he said well I don’t want you to have something you’re not happy with so I’m just gonna pursue our own route and refund you. I ended up getting a CZ P09 instead. They later told me they had hell getting back anything from Sig. I don’t tell anyone now not to buy from them but I won’t again.

I had a problem with my p320 and I didn't even bother dealing with six there. I'll tell you what the issue was.
The gun wouldn't go into battery. 6 hours said it required a break in period. They were wrong. There was a burr and the slide that was catching. My buddy took a hand file and after removing it it ran fine.
Now, I don't claim to be a Glock Fanboy but I did carry one on duty for about 20 years and they always ran out of the box. Just saying.

Taurus. Brand new TX22 came with a trashed barrel and I contacted them about it from the store’s parking lot. They insisted I ship the entire gun back to them and told me I would get it back within several months. I declined and argued with them for several weeks before someone finally gave in and shipped me a new barrel.
ASnakeNamedNate@reddit
Not th manufacturer directly, but I had an issue with the rebate company for a Beretta 21A (that they were clearly trying to move for th 20X/30X guns in hindsight). I submitted what I thought was sufficient, received an email that said the application was going to be reviewed which was quoted to take IIRC up to a month and then silence.
Apparently my application had been rejected for some bogus reason when it was clear I should have qualified, but they never bothered to contact me to tell me it was rejected and why so that I could correct it before the promotion was over.
I contacted beretta, got them in the same email thread and mentioned how unprofessional it was and disatisfied I felt and Beretta made them give me the rebate pretty quick. They also gave me enough store credit to get a couple of magazines for the 21A as a courtesy.
So yeah now everytime there’s a “rebate” offer I brace for some bullshit.

drebinf@reddit
Yes, that's my position. I have 2, a revolver and a TCP (which blew up in my hand, causing me to "meet" their customer servicing.) I now say that if I ever have a problem with either of them again, I'll fix it myself, pay someone local to fix it, or cut it in half on the bandsaw.
Though I suppose I should also consider disassembling and dropping into the ocean where it'll rust back into it's components, or drop into a nice hot fire, etc.

Unsurprisingly BCA. I knew going in buying a bolt action upper was a gamble but my god. I had to buy a 458 Go Gauge and video it before they believed me it was out of spec. Only after I sent a video of my upper failing to go into battery with a go gauge did they accept maybe there was an issue. Not the video of me hammer fisting the bolt closed on a factory round
Low-Landscape-4609@reddit (OP)
Man, as silly as this sounds, when I was training for three gun, I would always video my practice sessions for this reason. It's hard for companies to deny issues when you have it on camera.
The only thing I ever caught on camera was breaking and extractor on a Windham weaponry AR-15 but their customer service was always top notch. I didn't even need to send them the video. They just told me to give them the serial number and they would send me another one right out.
Logan_Frost@reddit
Ive personally had pretty good luck across the board with my infrequent needs for such. I bought a very early Hellcat and it snapped the tip off the firing pin after a few range trips(It always looked like it was smearing the primers, but chalked it up to design.) and they kitted me out with a new furnished slide and a Gear Up pack.
The only people I really ever had problems with were Sccy and Bersa. Even then, not really a hostile or unpleasant experience, just.. slow.
FantasticBed2688@reddit
I’ve heard that Hi-Point is actual pretty good with their customer relations. Also, I love that they seem to really lean into their “Yeet cannon” reputation.

Honestly, Ive only had a few Hi Point's and they've never been troublesome enough to warrant contacting them so I couldnt really say. My understanding is they stand behind their products though, yeah.
