Its so weird, I occassionally have dreams about panicking end of university because I realize I missed an entire class for a term and I wont be able to graduate. In real life I was not like that at all, I never had any school related anxiety, so its funny to me that sleep me liked skipping school.
Yes, like the teeth wiggling loose thing. I can understand manifesting anxiety within another situation in your head I guess. But why is loose teeth such a thing?
Mine are so vivid too with how all the teeth come out. I have had this one so many times! Horrific.
I also have the one where I am trying to drive the car from the back seat or passenger seat and I just can't seem to get up into the drivers seat. Also incredibly vivid. Awful.
I do too and the fog slowly clears and I realize I graduated forever ago and it’s such a feeling of relief when I come to my senses.
That being said I sometimes have the opposite and have a really good dream and wake up feeling amazing and it’s such a bummer to slowly come to my senses lol. I have a pretty good life I guess but waking up to realizing I didn’t somehow come into a shit ton of money and I do still have to go to work is the worst.
I read an article once about how this is the most common dream for our generation. I have it all the time too, and I always wake up in a panic thinking I didn't graduate.
Maybe it comes from being a sandwich generation. Like we see the boomer way of life slipping away and into the life and financial stresses of today and we are scared of that life slipping away (like ' I missed my class, now im screwed!') feeling.
Yep me too, but it's usually high school for some reason.
Another recurring one I have is that I'm back as a server or bartender working in restaurants again. I did that for several years, but I've been out of it for 20 years now. But I still have dreams where I'm suddenly on the clock there and I suddenly realize I have all these customers that have been waiting and I'm way behind on everything and can't find anything to serve them. And I'm pretty sure I have a much better job so I don't know why I'm even on the schedule, wtf is going on here!?
Oh I do too from my years being a dishwasher and cook in my late teens and early twenties! Same idea - orders keep coming in and I cant keep up. I only really get those dreams when I am getting sick with a fever. I always wake up in a panic.
I always have that one too! Somehow forget about a class all semester and now it’s time for the final exam. Another favorite: I’m back in school as an adult (for some reason) and can’t remember my locker combination.
> because I realize I missed an entire class for a term and I wont be able to graduate
I HAVE THAT EXACT SAME DREAM
'i skipped an entire class for a term and forgot to drop it so it counted as a 0 nuking my gpa and i never really graduated and they are going to come find me'
I have dreams about needing one more class to graduate (15 years ago) signing up to take it a decade and a half later (as you do) and suddenly realizing that the final is tomorrow and I completely forgot that I never actually graduated.
… don’t know where I’m pulling that one from, but it happens at least a couple times a year.
Had this one multiple times. Sometimes I’m trying to find the classroom of the class I haven’f attended all semester and I’m too embarrassed to ask anyone.
Settle in for a long ride - I still have anxiety dreams about my undergraduate degree despite having done 6 subsequent degrees in various fields and being over 70 years old 🤣
but they'll take away your PhD once they find out you never got your HS diploma on some technicality / missed class, so now you've got to go back and do it or else your world is collapse
Protip, if you set your alarm to awake to the same music the radio station you listened to in high school played, you can delay the realization that you are old for a few minutes.
I can't do naps, esp on the weekend. I set my alarm for 90 mins, then my alarm goes off and I'm like "fuck it, I'mma sleep another 5 mins" and the next thing I know I've slept for 6 hours and it's 9pm.
first, its almost final exams time in college and i realize for forgot to go to this one random class all semester, i panic, wondering if ill fail or if i can study enough to pass the final.
second, (i was in the army reserves and got deployed a bunch) i dream that my unit is about to deploy and i miss a movement for deployment. it's either a bus or a plane and i think oh crap im gonna miss movement.
I still get the didn’t go to class one, when I was younger I got the teeth falling out and one where I was trapped in a pinball game I think. Also one where I apparently killed someone or needed to hide a body for some reason and did a very bad job of it. The actual killing wasn’t ever in the dream, it had happened in the past I think
Can do sets of a dozen chin ups. Bench more than my body weight. Run more than 10kms. Climb, jump, and crawl. Cycle and paddle. Feeling pretty good to be honest, but it's been work to maintain this decaying meat vehicle.
I still get dreams where I'm showing up to school either without knowing/having my class schedule and/or where the class is that I'm already late for. Havent had the 'can't seem to get my shit together and I'm going to miss the bus' dream in quite some time.
As an adult, I've been in so many more high stress situations or had to deal with emotionally taxing life issues and no dreams reflecting on that stuff.
But it goes to show you how much trauma our adolescent brains just internalized while we were in school, where we are still having these kinds of dreams 25+ years later.
I lost my ability to sleep through the night at the beginning of Covid lockdowns (3 job offers rescinded). I never gained it back, even with melatonin.
Don’t use melatonin, it actually gives you sleep disturbances if you take it long term. Try ashwaganda and l-threonine instead. Those work well for me for anxiety. I’m assuming that’s why you can’t sleep.
I get the school one, but I also get a dream of my first office job career and am dealing with all my old coworkers acting weird that I came back to work there again. And then I slowly start thinking “why did I leave my better, high paying career to come back to this place” and then I wake up and realize it was all just a dream!
A few years back I was outside waiting for my cab to show up. It was the middle of winter, so I was bundled up. The school bus stopped and was going to let me on 🤣 Like damn dude, I didn't want to go when I was still enrolled!
A while back I woke up staring at an unfamiliar ceiling and completely spaced on where I was. This didn't look like the ceiling of any flat I'd ever lived in. Did I crash at someone's place? Did I get laid? How drunk was I last night?
Then it hit me - I was looking at the ceiling of my bedroom in the suburban house I share with my wife and kids. It was like being hit with a dump truck full of responsibility. Still, those few seconds where the only problems I had were where the fuck I was and the impeding hangover that hadn't kicked in yet, those were nice.
I wokeup this sunday from a nap thinking it was monday morning and I slept in the chair, and the kids were gonna be late to school. Took me a minute to figure out it was still 4 p.m. in Sunday.
Those are the worst dreams I have. Not quite nightmares, but I don't like having them. It's either a test I didn't study for, or I'm running late, or just being at the high school in general.
