They updated the iconic billboard???
Posted by Leading-Pop5059@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 145 comments
Do they do this often?? In my commute this morning I could’ve sworn it was still a miller billboard…
ThomDoe@reddit
I miss the restaurant....
Bigfx@reddit
lol “iconic”
Chronosshotgun@reddit
The waterfall stays, the advertisement changes. It's been a few different things over the years.
WhiteTrashIdiotFuck@reddit
It looks like trash when they don’t make the ad for the waterfall tbh. What a waste of seriously prime ad space.
BeachStrandBiker@reddit
What's even the point with this ad?
COORs makese sense because it's the water from the rockies. This is just "hey look it's the billboard waterfall.... sponsored by Blue Moon?"
MephistoHamProducts@reddit
I mean, if you factor in all the Whalers on the Moon, the water makes sense. Sort of. Except there's no whales on the moon.
trustmyvoice@reddit
We’re whalers on the moon
vtharley@reddit
A rat done bit my sister Nell With whalers on the moon…
plastic_jungle@reddit
I, for one, was unaware of these additional drinks they are now selling. So it worked
Obi_wan_pleb@reddit
It still made you think about it. That's the whole point of ads
Chronosshotgun@reddit
It's an ad. The waterfall is unique and actually makes people look at, and discuss, the content. That's literally it.
IAmTurdFerguson@reddit
Blue Moon IS brewed in Denver, even if they don't make it their Identity
Partridge_PearTree@reddit
Brewed in the Rockies stadium
guitar_vigilante@reddit
It's still a Coors ad to be fair.
OutlawSundown@reddit
The waterfall is the only reason anyone really bothers to look at the sign anyway.
ELECTRICMACHINE13@reddit
It's literally supposed to be "a waterfall made of beer" that's the whole point.
doscoronasporfavor@reddit
Originally, Pearl Beer.
Ganjarannasaurus-Rex@reddit
Does anyone know where one could purchase Pearl Light in a can here in Dallas??
right164@reddit
Seriously? Try Euless, TX
ChicagoRay312@reddit
Back in the day, it was Goody Goody. Not sure now.
right164@reddit
Gross!!
The_Name_Is_Slick@reddit
I think it was a Coors sign when I snuck up there on prom night. Crawled through a hole cut in a fence at the back of a restaurant parking lot.
Icy_Mistake3234@reddit
Now that brought back a memory...Baby Doe's Matchless Mine.
CranberryDebby@reddit
My husband and I had our first brunch date at Baby Does in 1985 right after we got married. They had the best amaretto coffee
djjoshuad@reddit
My mother was a waitress there as a teen. Now, condos. Ugh.
JamieDHinds@reddit
I do remember Baby Doe’s!
First_Ad2766@reddit
If I remember correctly, it was Coors when I was a kid in the 80s
No_Drama2424@reddit
What did you do up there?
The_Name_Is_Slick@reddit
Things one could never get away with these days
Chexty2600@reddit
You said the R-word and smoked in a restaurant?
The_Name_Is_Slick@reddit
Funniest thing I’ve read in a minute! While I can assure you, we weren’t doing that, all I’ll say is that the world became a completely different place after smart phones and mass surveillance.
Abject-Zucchini7507@reddit
Who actually buys blue moon? 💀
Flimsy_Year5397@reddit
My old home
El_alacran214@reddit
Used to Coors
Murky-Goal7201@reddit
On another note, could you imagine living in the apartment that’s blocked by the ad?
luwi12@reddit
wait what the hell there is a building behind it now? i’ve been gone too long
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
The building behind it will never look right to me.
ShopEmpress@reddit
Are there apartments directly behind the billboard? I've always wondered lol
TheWumboAgenda@reddit
Yeah, there’s a mural on the other side I believe
Wellthen3@reddit
I live in this building, there is no Mural, it’s a literal empty frame. The apartment complex just finished put a tarp over it to make it more appealing. There is a small dog park behind it though ( think turf and fire hydrant.)
Middle-Blueberry6958@reddit
Do they charge less for the apartments that look out at the back of a billboard/waterfall or does the company (predictably) shrug their shoulders and say you’re SOL?
eelynek@reddit
You get charged a premium for privacy /s
parzival0012@reddit
I lived in a studio behind this sign for $1000 base in 2023 the apartments are called “The Alexan”. Directly behind the sign is a premium garage that I think residents pay a monthly upcharge for and a mail room so it doesn’t really hide the view for a lot of units
Wellthen3@reddit
Pricing is “Dynamic” based on many factors, but typically things like being closer to the garage are going to be more of a premium than the view, anyway, the difference is at most 100$ between units of the same formats so I wouldn’t say the view being blocked lowers pricing
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
“Charge less”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What does “charge less” mean?
Middle-Blueberry6958@reddit
Rent costs less? The tenants don’t pay as much? The price is lower? lol
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
I just mean I don’t think the concept of charging less even exists anymore.
ShopEmpress@reddit
That's disappointing. Need one? I've done lots over the years 🤣
waitstaph@reddit
Miller and Blue Moon are both brands owned by Molson Coors
ziggy269@reddit
Thank you for saying this
JelloProud6180@reddit
it will forever be the billboard for Baby Doe’s Mine Shaft restaurant long gone just glad they have kept it all these years!
PoshNoshThenMosh@reddit
I bet they still charge a premium for the apartments with a view of the back of the waterfall
playballer@reddit
West shade is an asset
TheElPistolero@reddit
I imagine you live there for the Katy trail vs a view of a highway.
PlanktonsEvilTwin@reddit
That’s what I always wonder when looking at it now. Who lives there? What’s the view? Is there a 20% discount for terrible view?
dropinbombz@reddit
Nope pay extra for water feature sounds
JCinDC@reddit
I used to live at the Alexan [not sure if that’s still the name]. The apartment pool is directly below the sign and it has a waterfall like feature as well. Sun wasn’t an issue surprisingly.
spaghetti_industries@reddit
I mean the alternative to the view of the back of the billboard is the highway… maybe at least the billboard blocks some of the highway noise
PlanktonsEvilTwin@reddit
The 20 minutes of natural light a day would be perfect for a vampire.
Ill_Pineapple_450@reddit
How did I know this was the exact billboard I was gonna see when I opened this post. And I haven’t lived full time in Texas in almost 13 years. Lol love that thing. And idk if it has ever said anything but coors light my whole life? I’m all for blue moon taking it over as long as it continues existing lol
Complete-Pen-9358@reddit
Once at a bar, my buddy said “do you have anything like Blue moon?” The waitress looked at him and said. “We have Blue Moon.” He said “Ok, I’ll take one.”
Duo007@reddit
Still miss baby does behind that waterfall
flaming_bob@reddit
It's so weird seeing the building in back. Even now.
AEW_SuperFan@reddit
RIP Baby Does
the_orange_alligator@reddit
We need more themed restaurants. We need more fun places to go in general
Stepjam@reddit
I'm shocked that Magic Time Machine is still kickin all these years.
Wonder if it's any good now
the_orange_alligator@reddit
I still adore it. I love their cheese sticks, and it feels like the food has gotten a quality upgrade over the past few years. Long may it reign
CommunicationOwn2775@reddit
Like a Casa Bonita ?
Dick_Lazer@reddit
I went to the Fort Worth Casa Bonita as a kid & it was a lifelong obsession ever since. South Park totally nailed it.
the_orange_alligator@reddit
Yes yes
Atomichawk@reddit
I miss purple cow :(
pigeonsinthepark@reddit
They still exist in Arkansas if you’re ever up that way

I go out that way for work occasionally so it is on my radar!

A restaurant and a cave mine!

https://www.babydoe.org/restaurant.htm
DensePersonality1@reddit
It was a restaurant where those apartments are now
HEFTYFee70@reddit
Miller must have bought Blue Moon…
PlentyDouble3449@reddit
'Member when it had titties?
ChezussCrust@reddit
It used to be a Coors advertisement when I moved to DFW around 2016
crewsctrl@reddit
It's older than me!
Dedication of the Pearl Beer Waterfall Billboard - May 1962
Am I having a Mandela Effect moment, or was there an incident in the 70's where the waterfall was producing soap suds? Either an advertising stunt or a cleaning mishap?
BethanyHipsEnjoyer@reddit
Woah, this is neat, thanks for sharing!
johntheactuator@reddit
TX/OU weekend, back when it was a real thing, kids would always dump soap in it as a prank.
crewsctrl@reddit
That was it. Memory unlocked. 👍
shwampchicken@reddit
Should be the Banquet
Recent_Pack_1585@reddit
SG
lowfiswish@reddit
I kinda wish some late-night host would rent this and put someone’s face on there
speedy550@reddit
Sign of the times. Texas losing its identity unfortunately.
Chronosshotgun@reddit
Ah yes, the deeply represtentative Texas beer, COORS LIGHT. The one famous for, what's the slogan, Brewed in the Rockies? The famous texas rockies.
The_Name_Is_Slick@reddit
Chill bro, lest we pine for advertisements.
Gullible-Style6710@reddit
The water doesn’t fall has heavy as it used to before the building. Takes away from the nostalgia
32RH@reddit
It’s been rotating for Molson-Coors brands for as long as I can remember.
TravelTheWorldDan@reddit
I used to work at the restaurant that used to be behind that billboard called Baby Does Matchless Mine back in the 90s. Used to be the billboard specifically for that restaurant
PresidentBaileyb@reddit
I live there, it changes all the time. Literally went Bud -> Coors -> Miller in one week one time.
johntheactuator@reddit
never went bud.
PresidentBaileyb@reddit
I mean bud light, but it definitely was
callous13@reddit
Anyone got an og pic from like 2000 ?
The_Name_Is_Slick@reddit
I got one from up on it in 96
Regular-Sorbet9513@reddit
Just do not mess with the water fall 💦
FunkmasterFo@reddit
As Rumor Has It teenagers used to sneak up there and bang one out real quick in the waterfall before the cops were called.
The_Name_Is_Slick@reddit
Why are you downvoted? While nobody would likely get in the water, many many kids snuck up there and did thangs.
No_Drama2424@reddit
I heard homeless people sneak and bathe in this fountain, is this true?
scaryscarygrl@reddit
Probably bc if not there then a gas station restroom
deepdarksea@reddit
Sucks for the apartments behind the billboard. I knew some of the architects that worked on the design for the building and they told me that originally the developers were trying to come up with ideas for what to do for the back side. The best one they came up with was a big banner sign that showed what was behind the sign if it wasn’t there. In the end they ended up doing nothing, of course. I doubt those apartments even get a discount.
ehandren@reddit
They actually do get a discount. And there is a large banner of some weird abstract art that looks like Picasso's take on the human centipede
Source: I lived in one of those shitty apartments
deepdarksea@reddit
Fascinating! I’ll have to check it out. Glad to hear they are cheaper at least
sadkorb@reddit
Niagara Falls looks beautiful this time of year
VallettaAwoo@reddit
am i crazy but wasnt there a resturant behind the waterfall eons ago?
toodleroo@reddit
My dad says that 40-50 years ago, someone put soap flakes in the water as a prank.
ehandren@reddit
I used to live in an apartment directly behind it. They changed the ad about 2x/year
Ok-Goal-8767@reddit
Now bring back the zoo and happy meal themed McDonalds
esotika@reddit
remember when it used to look like a can of bud light was pouring over the waterfall?
jarden_knuhtsan@reddit
Blue moon is owned by coors so not much has changed really
Accomplished-Union10@reddit
It was Coors for the longest time when I was growing up, then they changed it to some seltzer bullshit. Glad it’s back to beer at least lol
ice-eight@reddit
Last time I ordered a Blue Moon I was at a bar watching game 6 of the 2011 World Series
SpaceBoJangles@reddit
Does anyone remember when it was Coors light?
Hour-Detail4510@reddit
When u first moved to Dallas in 2012
JPowellbois@reddit
I currently live in those apartments. I actually toured a unit right behind the billboard and you have a pretty shitty view so I'm guessing you'd receive some kind of discount. Not a bad place to live except for the terrible restaurant attached to the building...
TheRealBadGate@reddit
wow. when i was a teenager the drive from carrollton to downtown felt so long, and this was always the visual marker for me of how close i was or not 😂
GalaxyHoppin@reddit
It’s historically been a miller Coors product on that billboard and Blue Moon is owned by that group, so it makes sense.
sunburntsalem@reddit
Blue moon supremacyyy 🍊
The_Firing_Line@reddit
Not the desired effect.
SgtAspertame@reddit
My uncle told me that the waterfall was made of beer when I was a kid. This was in the '90s on a trip to the Spaghetti Warehouse. Personally I think it would be a much bigger hit if it was made out of beer.
Unable_Finger2375@reddit
What iconic billboard?
Reasonable_Lecture74@reddit
S Houston St, Dallas, TX, 75202
kingofnottingham@reddit
I expect to get outvoted.
The old sign was iconic. This is selling out. But I get it it’s all business.
Fancy_Gate_7359@reddit
Which one? It’s changed at least three times in the last 15 years
scottsmith7@reddit
I miss the restaurant. It was my wife’s and i’s first date in 1991. Mmm, beer-cheese soup
I also miss Spaghetti Warehouse. Mmmm, garlic butter.
GuairdeanBeatha@reddit
My Dad drove a delivery route in the 60s. Occasionally, I went with him and I still remember the billboard being built and riding by one day seeing the waterfall in action.
Status-Injury5747@reddit

Exquisite_D@reddit
Ugh!
conic_is_learning@reddit
I think we should like add more waterfall and make that grander. I remember seeing this as a little kid and thinking it was the coolest thing.
rgg40@reddit
I think it was Pearl beer the first time I saw it. Yeah, I’m old.
GeekyTexan@reddit
It's changed many times over the years since it was put in. It always has a waterfall, but doesn't always advertise the same thing.
DFWTrojanTuba@reddit
It’s just not the same with that giant apartment complex behind it.
TensorForce@reddit
It's not been the same since they put a building behind it...
JulianC_1111@reddit
Good! Blue moon is better 😏
kingofnottingham@reddit
Why not leaving it as it was. You fuxxing creatives continue to fuxxx things up.
Chronosshotgun@reddit
You're getting hella mad over a billboard.
Also, you can say 'fuck'. We're not in school and you're not going to get a naughty.
b-ke@reddit
You thinking creatives had anything to do with this and not some lame ass marketing/pr exec is funny
