Is there a character limit for Reddit comments? Because I'm a child of the 80's so we could be here a while…
Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Bananaman, Raggy Dolls, Gummi Bears, Super Gran, Dogtanian, Ulysses 17, Rosie & Jim, The Racoons, Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, He-Man and She-Ra, Visionaries, Trapdoor, The Littlest Hobo. Those are just off the top of my head. Really strong memories of sitting on the couch after school, still in my uniform, or sitting on the floor on Saturday/Sunday morning in my jimjams with a giant bowl of cereal containing a now illegal amount of sugar. I can still see our old, giant-but-small-screened CRT with it's wood veneer.
Those cartoons were usually followed by stuff like The A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf, and memorably once, The Man From UNCLE. Iilya Kuryakin himself, David McCallum, came to stay with his sister (some said cousin, it's always been a bit unclear) for a couple of months not long after so he was probably a bit surprised to find he had all new pre-teen fans around the early 90's lol but it was the timeslot after Motormouth or Going Live! or Number 73 or whatever the weekend morning kids show was at the time, so we all watched it.
Then there were the adult shows, some of which I probably shouldn't have been watching. Who lets their 6 year old watch The Equaliser, FFS? But I loved Boon, London's Burning, Casualty (still going!), The Crystal Maze, World in Action. As an aside, I really feel we lost something as a society when children were no longer obligated to watch grown-up tv because their parents absolutely refused to put on a video instead of watching the news, current affairs magazines or real dramas.
All those had banging themes and I can still hum or sing along to them all. They all make me smile even before I clock what they are because I have such fond memories either of the shows or of feeling grown up watching them with my parents. Even The Equaliser.
