is this a tracker found on surron light bee?

so i found this connected to the bottom of my seat and it was flashing and looked like a tracker.
if you scan qr code it takes you to a phone number
what is it?
th3bes@reddit
Did you not even bother doing the bare minimum research or even attempt to google the part number? If you bought yours as an oem model it comes stock, you can see it in the manual here: https://imgur.com/a/AVYzalE. Its number 21 in the blown out diagram.
Clear-Resident2411@reddit (OP)
that’s weird because when i googled the part number it pulled up surron manual but not that’s it just said safety manual
Cheap_Background5615@reddit
because you stopped researching when it didn't spit out an immediate answer. Did you not think "hmmm, maybe there's more information INSIDE that manual."?
FarOption9045@reddit
Yall two replies are the reason people hate this site lol.
432MegaHertz@reddit
* It came with your bike lol
V3semir@reddit
"Your" is an overstatement here, lol.
redditorialy_retard@reddit
it's not a tracker. it's a BMS amp and without it the bike won't work. please ensure it's connected. and ideally be in a place with good gps
graydi66y@reddit
BMS Amps don't require cellular service. It's 100% a tracker. But only able to be used in China.
KettchupIsDead@reddit
That doesn't mean OP is not concerned about the possibility of a tracking device on the bike they may or may not own
1inch_SubWoofer@reddit
BMS .. amp?
Not a tracker, but should be in a place with good GPS?
FrigataBowdette@reddit
Yep cops are en route, you better run
Several_Ad_6576@reddit
I had to point out, did OP steal “their” e-bike and is worried they might be tracked?
Clear-Resident2411@reddit (OP)
no bought it used
darforce@reddit
For no money lol.
Several_Ad_6576@reddit
Ah my mistake.
You have to admit though if someone did steal a bike they could be looking for a tracking device on the bike.
Clear-Resident2411@reddit (OP)
yeah ik lol i was putting a new seat on and found it connected to the bottom
ogkilladon@reddit
this mfer def stole this bike
darforce@reddit
For sure
drinkandfly@reddit
Idk why no one knows this but if you bought the Alibaba surron it comes with a GPS module that you can access from the Surron app…but only in China. You can just discard it if you’re not in China.
ColdestCatAlive@reddit
Is an Alibaba surron okay to buy? 🤔
Bitter_Dimension_241@reddit
I’ve been wondering about this after seeing the problems some brands are having with welds failing during use and the riders being severely injured or dead.
I mean they’re basically being subject to the same forces as motorcycles but without any of the safety oversight.
drinkandfly@reddit
I haven’t seen any cases of Surron bikes’ welds failing for any reason other than a front end collision. I have seen some other regular e-bikes’ welds fail, usually the cheap moped style ones that can be had for under $1k on Amazon.
blankdeluxe@reddit
They are all Alibaba surrons. They might just touch another set of hands or two before you get them
WearySignature4531@reddit
People love paying a markup.
EvilToastedWeasel0@reddit
At least they aren't Mordor Surrons.... Trouble those be.
Dear_Painting4918@reddit
drinkandfly@reddit
They’re the same hardware, only difference is buying one through an authorized dealer gives you a 12 month / 20,000 mile warranty on most of the parts.
drinkandfly@reddit
Yeah I think so, I have two of them in my garage.
Significant-Pen-6049@reddit
lol I have the same question
bluetrepidation@reddit
I installed my own SIM card and the app works just fine in the USA. I believe the installed SIM is a demo and expires after some time.
drinkandfly@reddit
Well shit…guess I should have held onto mine 😅
bluetrepidation@reddit
😂
oliviadaisy5432@reddit
it’s funny how often hardware gets shipped with software features that only half-exist depending on where you live.
MaxTrixLe@reddit
Yes someone is trying to steal your bike or rob your home. Scary
drinkandfly@reddit
No, the Chinese ones people buy on Alibaba come with a GPS module you can access with an app but it’s geo locked to China only. OP can just discard it.
_your_face@reddit
If you mean the one in the picture it says in the device it has an IMEI number and says SIM. Both indications that it has cellular service
Get_Fuckin_Dabbed_On@reddit
well duh, thats how the GPS data gets to the App.
GPS is passive. it gets data from satellites. you need cell service to put that data online so you can access it to get data about the bike.
_your_face@reddit
This person is specifically saying it doesn’t have cellular, and you access the data with an app meaning bluetooth
drinkandfly@reddit
No I’m not? Not once did I say anything about Bluetooth. Obviously a Bluetooth connected gps tracker would be useless more than 15 feet from the bike.
KowalskiTheGreat@reddit
What use would an antitheft gps tracker have that only works over Bluetooth, if it's in Bluetooth range you already found it... The point is that the sim card/cell service on that tracker only works on Chinese networks (without swapping the sim for a usa one anyway)
drinkandfly@reddit
Yes it does, there’s some call sequence you can do to get the coordinates if it’s stolen. I’ve heard that part still works in the US but you would need to find a service provider that supports the device.
FartNuggetSalad@reddit
Nah take out the SIM and start downloading EVERYTHING you can. Run up that bill
ses1989@reddit
Fill it with the nastiest porn you can.
AutoModerrator-69@reddit
Bruh you know that SIM cards have very very limited storage 💀I mean maybe 0.00001 frame of a scene
staydrippy@reddit
So the SIM card is for Internet connectivity, not for storage. Ideally could put that SIM card into something like a cellular gateway with network attached storage and start running up TERABYTES, but I have a feeling this is prepaid and will cut you off.
AutoModerrator-69@reddit
Yes I’m aware it’s not for storage. I was just responding to the users comment.
Dear_Painting4918@reddit
You're being funny 😂! 😂
staydrippy@reddit
Hopefully he reads my reply too then lol
Homelessdruglord@reddit
😂
GabrielNYC4@reddit
Host a rom site filled with Nintendo roms and then self report to Nintendo and then toss it in the trash.
gurahamu89@reddit
Yeah bring it to the police station and get the manufacturer arrested for adding anti theft tech to the bike allowing you to see where it is if stolen… 😆
It was literally hooked up to the motor. Ain’t no thief spending the time to disassemble the bike just to put a tracker on it.
That’s what the JST connector on it is, a connector common in ananda and other motors.
DenM0ther@reddit
Or tracking op
Legitimate-Lab9077@reddit
What’s it like to live a life while being this paranoid?
This comes on the bike when it ordered direct from China either OP ordered it on Alibaba or their dealer source to direct from China. It’s a feature of the bike where you can track your own bike on an app in China. It doesn’t work outside of China.
rvralph803@reddit
In a functional world police would pursue this. We don't live in that world, unfortunately.
rodrigoelp@reddit
Instead of taking it to the police immediately, take the sim out to prevent it reporting the location (like the police station).
As a petty revenge, abuse that SIM card.
OBLIVIATER@reddit
Or its their mom tracking them, this is a child.
paxtana@reddit
Shoulda bought a Talaria lol
BestAmoto@reddit
Reminds me of the talaria xxx models having gps and the ones imported by people using alibaba getting locked out from using it in the US...
paxtana@reddit
To clarify, shoulda bought a talaria from a legitimate distributor and not some shady alixxx third party
saik0pod@reddit
The fact it has an imei means it's a Cellular tracker
AviationMetalSmith1@reddit
WiFi module for programming motor controller You need a Chinese government license to download the app and license
OutsideYourWorld@reddit
Plot twist, he's just a thief trying to make sure he wont be found out.
pissyguy@reddit
That's probably the legit answer
longstaff55@reddit
Do not put it in your bin lol , either go to police or dispose of it in a bin far away from home
Livingonthevedge@reddit
Ship it to China?
Cranks_No_Start@reddit
Go to a truck stop and plant it on a trailer heading west.
PicaDiet@reddit
Now this has the makings of a buddy movie screenplay.
Dear_Painting4918@reddit
Three strangers meet online, together they dissect an ebike, electric scooter and a motorized bike, faster than Ebike, decide which one is the most evil, perform an exorcism and go out for drinks but remotely.
Gothiccheese95@reddit
life is a highway, i wanna ride it all night looong
Virtual_Society_1852@reddit
I was about to say I'm a long haul trucker. I'll gladly toss it in a random trash can in the middle of nowhere 400 miles away later that same day. Don't ask random truckers about that though. They may not react the same way.
longstaff55@reddit
He can ship it to me if he likes, I'll set up an operation to catch the would be thief
AltruisticBus8305@reddit
Absolutely. Set it up and ambush them.
Cock_InABox@reddit
Sounds like a wet dream in Texas
Exciting-Peak70@reddit
It's called "hunting over bait". ;-)
432MegaHertz@reddit
trtsmb@reddit
Amazing how many people don't read the manual.
Own-Quality2204@reddit
Yes you can put your own SIM card in it
ryuk9o4@reddit
Scanning random QR codes on random devices you find on your bike is such a bad security habit, you never know what sketchy stuff it could link to.
beachbum818@reddit
Or comes with the bike. Look at the manual. Part # 10_21
gjpk@reddit
Install it on your enemy’s bike, play it fwd
joggingo3@reddit
Put it in a glass bottle and put it in the sea
pd9@reddit
Not that you asked but, as a general security rule, don’t scan random QR codes
Sorry_Whereas_31@reddit
Throw it away, just not at home.
taylorink8@reddit
Never scan and QR code you don’t know what it is for. Easy way to let hackers get info from you
ManyLayersOfFilament@reddit
did nobody think that this possibly came with the bike, with such a specific connector? tons of ebikes come with tracking features as an option. is this something NEW you noticed or you just never looked there before?
John-AtWork@reddit
That thing is huge, and not very stealthy at all.
ieat_cats59@reddit
Put it on a Amazon delivery truck
Tokinruski@reddit
That will keep it kind of local. Much funnier to give it to a proper trucker
fn0000rd@reddit
Study up!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMZTQ13gzfo
AlexCail@reddit
Get in a cab or bus and stuff it under a seat 🤣
Top-Watercress5948@reddit
Give it to a trucker.
rvralph803@reddit
I love that they swap these things. Fucking heros.
PickleAlly@reddit
Was it plugged into your bike with that connector too? That’d be wild to have something seemingly so specific.
Lawrence_skywalker@reddit
I think it just uses a battery but has the option to tap power from a tail light or something
sckuzzle@reddit
He said it was "connected" to the bottom of his seat. The seat has power, because it powers the brake light.
Lawrence_skywalker@reddit
Wow that is highly specific. My guess is that surron uses some industrial standard for motorcycle harness?
thelastspike@reddit
Mail it to some remote nowhere kind place in North Dakota. Make sure to include a note why you mailed it there, but maybe don’t give your info.
No_Inevitable4161@reddit
Give it to a trucker they love gps trackers
MarioMadness1@reddit
Looks like a bluetooth adapter.. you can tune the controller
No_Figure_9073@reddit
That's a massive tracking device wtf. Included with QR code 💀 are you robbing someone OP lol
itsethanty@reddit
Learn to read.
BestAmoto@reddit
Did you finance your surron?
Balbers01@reddit
Stick it to an 18wheeler
Shibbi123@reddit
Direkt zu Hause, lade sie gerne zum Café ein 😎
longstaff55@reddit
So someone probably planted it and planned to rob it later
