Musings about laptop alternatives

Laptops are by far the most popular computers because of their convenience and ease of use they offer.
But are laptops really the best device to consider if your use case doesn't involve frequent travel? Wouldn't something like a mini pc with a portable touch monitor actually be a better option? You could actually pair and tailor your device with any screen and peripheral that strikes your fancy.
Plus it should be an equally good if not better experience to a laptop if you just want to lazily relax with it in bed to consume content.
PS: Just my thoughts but does anyone have some other thoughts and/or suggestions.

I never use my work laptop as a laptop, its sits face down on my desk for best cooling, I would much rather have a mini PC. Ideally I would have two, one I can leave at home permanently set up while the other I take with me.
I hate having to set my office back up every time I take my laptop somewhere. Windows can't get its head around my mic and speakers been plugged unplugged.
I already have to take a keyboard and mouse with me due to the appalling way people treat office equipment and due to all laptop keyboards even the best ones being ass.

What do you actually gain from this idea? You can connect any peripheral or monitor you want to a laptop already. This is just more complex and less convenient than a laptop.
