What's the easiest ID to routinely carry around when not allowed a driving license?

Are there any other credit card sized forms of ID that are accepted everywhere like a driving license? I don't really want to carry around my passport and that doesn't have my proof of address on it either. There's got to be something else surely.

Proof of age card. £15 from the post office.

Not accepted in lots of places.
Only thing thats guaranteed to be accepted everywhere is driving license or passport.

It’s home office approved and allowed to be used in pubs and clubs.

Doesn’t mean places accept it.
What ID places accept is entirely up to them.

Yeah the person working for minimum or just above isn't going to risk their job accepting an id they've never seen/heard of before.
Should they? Yeah, it's a legal form of ID Will they? Probably not, it's too risky for them.

Get a citizen card and move on with your life pal.

These are generally not accepted in pubs.

They’re more accepted than a note from your mum, which is probably the only other option when then question is “what proves my age that isn’t a passport or a driving licence”.

The only reliably and universally accepted IDs are driving licences and passports. A provisional licence costs £34.
There are a few cards such as CitizenCard which meet the PASS standard and should be accepted but they are extremely rare and you may find some places (esp small shops or uninformed bouncers) don't accept them even though they are supposed to. A CitizenCard costs £18 so you may as well pay that extra £16 and get the provisional licence.

Provisional drivers license, you don’t need to drive.
Heathy-Heatherson@reddit
I think if you aren't allowed a driving licence for medical reasons then you can't have a provisional either.
insomnimax_99@reddit
Yep, ran into that issue myself after my narcolepsy diagnosis, just have to drag my passport around.
piggycatnugget@reddit (OP)
Sorry to hear that. It's shit getting new diagnoses

Yep, I saw another post earlier today about someone trying to prove their age for iPhone, and got me wondering what disabled people carry around with them instead of a driving license.
I'm newly disabled and will need to forfeit my driving license and no idea what to replace it with. Carrying my passport around would be a pain in the butt

The new (now optional) digital ID should be launching at some point, so that might be an option eventually. Sadly that doesn't really help in the meantime. People will say "just take your passport out when you need a drink" but that doesnt really help in those situations when you are invited for a spontaneous pint, or you see some wine on offer in Aldi that you fancy, and carrying a valuable document like a passport all the time isn't ideal.
piggycatnugget@reddit (OP)
Forgotten about that! Hopefully they actually push ahead with it and it becomes accepted everywhere 🤞

And I can't find a UK disability sub to ask these questions 😬
alijam100@reddit
I learned today people with health conditions that disqualify them from being able to drive, can’t even apply for a provisional license for the purposes of ID. So this unfortunately doesn’t work for everyone
Acceptable-Split6348@reddit
Well yeah, because a provisional licence allows you to drive.
alijam100@reddit
Tbh I’d never even considered it, but it makes sense
Alternative-Emu2000@reddit
You can't apply for a provisional licence if the DVLA has deemed you unfit to drive for medical reasons.

My wife uses hers and hasn't driven in 20 years. Just need to renew and change the photo that's it.
Bifanarama@reddit
Certified copy of your passport?
Silver_Adagio138@reddit
Old age bus pass, includes proof of age 😝
piggycatnugget@reddit (OP)
Ooo, I wonder if the disability bus pass works the same wsy
Ukuleleah@reddit
It can for some things I think.
coffeewalnut08@reddit
You can get a provisional driving licence

Depends what you need it for, but the Yoti ID app can be used to prove your age.
