5080FE vs 9070XT

Hi all,
Deciding between two GPU options and would appreciate some advice.
- RTX 5080 FE brand new for €1150
- RX 9070 XT Nitro+ new for €725
I’ll be pairing it with a 9800X3D and playing at 1440p on a 360Hz OLED. I mainly play a mix of comp FPS and AAA titles, I have no interest in moving to 4K.
Am I insane paying 425 more for the 5080? For context I live in Ireland to get any 5080 there’s a premium, with shipping, import etc even with an MSRP FE from Nvidia themselves which is why it’s tempting.
Any advice at all would be amazing!
Thank you.

I'm just saying the 5080 is 15% faster. Overclock it for another 15%.
9070xt is great but AMD isn't gonna support it long term unlike nvidea. That and nvidea does have better software features

This is exactly why switched my 9070 XT for RTX 5080. nVidia features and support in games is much, much better than AMD. Also, I had driver issues with Radeon.

I have both these exact cards. Id buy a 9070XT and a 9060XT and run LSFG. Thats what my lounge system was running for a while. 5080FE was the biggest disappointment of my GPU purchases last year, its not much quicker than a 5070ti (bought one of them), its nowhere near a 4090(have one) at the res I run (dual 4k) and the 5090FE at twice the price is well worth it.
For context last year I bought and still have the following; B580 9060XT 16G 5070 9070XT Nitro 5070Ti 5080FE 5090FE.

5080 benefits from 4k noticeably more than a 5070ti can for anything past 1440p , 15% better performance with even more headroom after an OC/UV. you can path trace and use RT on a 5080 more liberally at 4k. if you got it at msrp, the 5080 is superior for 4k period lol. People look at prices now and scoff at the 5080 (understandably so) but if you were able to get them at msrp it’s a fantastic 4k card without having to spend double the money on a 90 series most people can never justify spending for , most people came to the exact opposite conclusion you did lol

Im 7680x2160@240, the difference between the 5070ti and 5080fe was neligable at that res, especially for the difference on price I paid. £760 vs £909. The 9070XT nitro was £660 and was awesome value for money. I think my 4090 was £1836 and my 5090FE was £1799.
Most people aren't trying to run a G9 57" monitor.
The 5080FE is actually just sat on a shelf at the moment whilst I decide what to do with it. It was my FG GPU for the 5090, but I threw in another Gen 5 Nvme which popped it down to 4 lanes...which meant a performance impact and lower flow scales.

ahh i see, for your use case that does make sense. the 9070xt continues to be a good card for the value and the 5080 has always been in that awkward middle spot but i think it’s an underrated 4k card and can be a good buy in the right situation. if you’re at 1440p just buy a 5070ti though yeah

What u drivin? 4k? Worth it. Large or multiple large 1440? Worth it.
27” 1440? No.
Biggeordiegeek@reddit
For 1440p the 9070XT is better
But the 5080 does have some pretty nice features with those Ai cores
TechnoGMNG589@reddit
On 4k itd be well worth imo, especially at high refresh rate.
Though at 1440p 360hz, a 9070xt will be fine.

Nah, can consider the 5070ti though if it's similarly priced, also XFX mercury OC aso a sexy card if it's on a decent price
changen@reddit
15% for 50% more money. yay.
Unless you are using it for work and need cuda, it's not worth it.
StunningPush8421@reddit
pretty decent price for the 5080 but at the end of the day you are paying 60 percent more money for 20 percent more performance.
You do of course get more rt and signficantly more Path tracing performance somtimes over double along with better features but considering you seem to play a lot of FPS that won't benefit from the nvidia features it doesn't make much sense. reflex 2 with framewarp does look promising for fps games but who knows when that is coming out.
Overall I would probably get the 9070 xt but I don't think the 5080 is a stupid buy
ZealousidealMode8013@reddit
If you said you would be playing on 4k id say get the 5080. But youre on 1440 so get the 9070
Otherwise_Storm6868@reddit
Its not worth it for the price increase
