Does anyone just leave their Magma grill rigged all season with this guy as the mount?

The grill itself is not exactly 'quick release'. So i'd like to just set it up and leave it be. I do have a cover for it of course.

Yes, we leave ours out all season, and it only gets removed for the off season. We put a cover on it when not in use, with the cover's line clove hitched around the rail. Not sure how long that would really hold if the support failed, but it makes me feel better. 😉

Same

Exactly what I do as well. I also have a small length of dyneema I tie around the bracket and to the rail.

I use magma mounts with a Weber Q. It has survived 3000nm sailed offshore so far. About 1700nm upwind from Honduras to St Martin.
It never comes off. I even push down hard to make smash burgers with my griddle accessory.
Pro tip: ditch the magma. Buy a Weber Q. More BTUs and more even heat.

I have a pretty small boat. The Q would be oversized for me sadly.
mwax321@reddit
Really? The round magma isn't much smaller.

I use my magma with the rodholder adapter. Stow it until needed and set it up in 2 mins

I leave it out unless we are hunkering down for a storm or doing some sort of long passage with potentially rough conditions, otherwise it stays out.
Before anyone asks, yes, I have grilled sausages while underway, double reefed in 25kts of wind. They were delicious.

Surely not with the round one. The flame gets blown to the back half of the burner. These things suck.Â
ReeferSkipper@reddit
It is the round one. You have to be strategic on how much you open the lid, and also have to move the sausages around as they cook.
I’ve lost a few sausages this way. Locals say there’s a legendary sausage fish out there now.

Those are the best rail mounts I've found - I use them for mounting solar panels. Good gear.
yepdoingit@reddit
No, I don't.
Secret-Temperature71@reddit
I used those to hold my solar panels for about 10 years.
elmalabarista65@reddit
Me too. It’s still hanging on the rail and has worked perfectly every time i need it
BBHCHS@reddit
Like most of the folks… I leave it on. Although I picked up a nice stainless wingnut at the hardware store and put that on as a stopper nut to make sure the bracket doesn’t come loose.
Would hate to hear the expensive splash of that going over the side!
NorbertIsAngry@reddit
That support is solid if tightened properly and the rail is strong enough.
graybrick@reddit
Mine has been in place with the grill for over 15 years.
ageofaquarius26@reddit
I do, hasn't been an issue.
eat_my_bubbles@reddit
I have a little kettle grill that came with the boat, but it's been fine in 50kt wind, I have a feeling it was up during the Florida hurricanes too before we bought the boat
ncbluetj@reddit
I keep the mount attached to the rail and folded out of the way. I only screw the grill on when using it.
JuggernautMean4086@reddit
When I am cruising near coastal I leave it attached to the stern horizontal rail abd just put the bag over it, cinch it tight, and rotate it down and out of the way until I need it. Works great. Remove and place in the laz for long term dockside times
Tombow51@reddit
I thought about it, but I take mine down every time after use
