I got my cdl in july 2024, now i want to get my hazmat endorsement and have a few questions. do i need to get a cdl medical certificate or is that already connected to my current cdl. Next is someone told me they require you to take a certified pre test before you can take the real test but i can’t find that online. for context im in texas

TX handles the background check differently than most states. You’ll need ELDT, then a written test at the DMV, they will give you a code and instructions for your background check, complete that, once that determination is made, TX will mail your new CDL to you. If you do get you HME, your CDL expiration date may change, or your HME may expire at a different date. To renew, repeat all the above except ELDT.

if I went to CDL school less than two years ago, does that mean I’ve already done my ELDT?

Different ELDT

do you know if that’s an in person class or if i can do it online

Either

Medical, no, thats your current med card.
Gotta go to TSA and get your prints done.
Gotta take a Hazmat cdl class
Gotta pass the DMV hazmat test.
Do those 3 and hazmat is yours. I just got the class left for mine!

I don’t have a current med card, also is it required I take a hazmat class if I’ve already taken a ELDT class whenever I got my CDL

Yes. You have to take a new ELDT for Hazmat, period. And you need the current med card.

do you know if i can do the eldt online or if it has to be inperson
Frogspoison@reddit
Either or I believe, BUT be careful, FMCSA is cracking down on all parts so if you do it online and the school gets shutdown, you have to inmediately take a new course or lose your license.
Personally? I'd do it through community colleges or vocational schools only.

You need a current med card regardless if you're hazmat if you have a CDL

In Colorado all you have to do is do the background check and once that comes back go take the test at the DMV. I highly recommend the hazmat app training. It's only like five bucks and it prepares you fairly well. The questions aren't exactly what were on my test but they were close enough that I passed on the first try.

Every state is different. In wisconsin the order is:
online eld course. maybe 25 bucks.
show up at dmv and take the 30 question multiple choice test
show up at fingerprint location
get new license in the mail
Other states have different orders. Washington state for some reason I think has in person hazmat course. It's all bullshit because the company will have their own ways of training.
