CEX gave wrong ram and broke my PC

Hi guys, bit annoyed
I went to buy 2x8gb ddr4 from cex
FYI I’m not experienced at building PCs
They gave me a stick of DDR5
And I tried to fit it, and broke my mobo lane 1 and 2….
Can I get them to replace my mobo?
I agree maybe I shouldn’t have tried to force it but I’m not very experienced…
Any thoughts…
FYI the cost of the DDR5 doesn’t out weigh the mobo…

At best you'll get a refund for the incorrect RAM, but you should have double checked this before installing it. Pretty much all RAM will have it's spec printed on it, and when you inserted it in the slot you should have felt some resistance because the notch was in a different place.
Chalk it up to a lesson learned. I get that it's your first time, but that only means you should have taken greater care.

You don’t think they’ll look to replace?
I mean I get it but if it was DDR4 then all would’ve been fine.
Idk maybe I’m tryna cope

At best they will offer to replace the DDR5 sticks for DDR4 sticks (although if the DDR5 sticks are still in good condition it's far more worth your time to sell them privately and use the money from that to buy a new DDR4 kit)

Yea kind of a win lose lol..

you could try and tell them they sold you the wrong product which ended up damaging and destroying your own component, although they may just say ddr5 and ddr4 ram are differentiated between the notches.

Yeah but idk I’m just a noob lol
I wish I knew the differences I just trusted them.
