This is from my first air show when I was 3. My mom has been cleaning out her garage, and brought me a bunch of old stuff I had as a kid.

T-38 was my 1st T-Bird, also… so many models, toys, drawings… can still doodle every detail by heart. I was excited for, and loved the transition to the F-16, but the Talon holds a special place (along w/ the Skyhawk for the Blues.)

1981 would have been the last season when the Thunderbirds flew the T-38. The next season, 1982, never happened - during pre-season testing in January, while flying in a close formation, the lead aircraft suffered a seized stabilizer while performing a four-abreast loop. They were meant to level out of their loop at 100 ft altitude (a close margin that's nowadays simply unimaginable) - instead, the leader failed to pull out and the three others - looking at one another to keep close formation - never pulled up.
Following that disaster, the 1982 season was cancelled; by the time 1983 came around, the Thunderbirds had converted to the F-16.
