Tails OS not showing as boot option on MacBook Air M4. Is it unsupported? Any privacy OS alternatives?

I was trying to use Tails OS on my MacBook Air M4. I flashed a 64GB pen drive using Balena Etcher and tried booting from it, but it is not showing up anywhere.

It does not appear in the boot options when restarting, and it is also not visible in the startup disk settings. I even tried flashing it twice just to confirm the USB was fine, but still no luck.

So now I am wondering if Tails is simply not supported on Apple Silicon Macs like the M4.

If that is the case, what are my options if I want to use a privacy focused OS on this device? Is there any way to make Tails or Qubes OS work, or are there any good alternatives that actually run on M series Macs?
