Just wanted to say thanks!

Every once in awhile there are posts on here about colonoscopies.
After reading a lot of the back-and-forth in those posts, I’ve decided to schedule mine (48m). I did the poop box test a few years ago, and I really just don’t trust the results any longer. I’d feel more at ease with an actual colonoscopy performed.
Thanks for the information and nudge to get it properly done!

I did the pill prep and would 100% choose it again.
I wanted to avoid drinking that nasty mix. I tasted a tiny bit of it once and it's salty and disgusting.
Also I found that I felt quite full after I took each dose of the pills: 12 pills the evening before, 12 more at 2am. Combined with the amount of water you have to drink with them, plus other liquids, I never felt any hunger during the whole prep.

Now they’re doing Gatorade mixed with Miralax.. and some pills. (You really don’t taste anything other than the Gatorade). It’s light years better than whatever the hell they gave us years ago!! Id rather just do pills, but that wasn’t an option for me. Seems like they’re at least moving in the right direction. LOL

Get a bidet if you don’t have one. It’s a lifesaver.

Or a peri bottle. Cheap and effective!

Tushy is cheap and once you start you’ll never want to poop anywhere without one again. I feel like an animal if I need to use toilet paper.

Keep us posted! 47f and haven’t done one yet. It sounds scary!
ReplyProfessional939@reddit
The only scary part is having to spend the 24 hours prior in the bathroom.😆

Colonoscopy surgery genuinely is not scary at all. I’ve even had a colonoscopy done back-to-back with an upper endoscopy (procedure related to acid reflux to check the stomach and esophagus) and that wasn’t a problem either. The issue is the day before and morning of prep is annoying.

Every ~~once in awhile~~ two or three days there are posts on here about colonoscopies. FTFY
Glad you took our advice because 45 is the new 50.

I just saw my gastroenterologist yesterday for a regular checkup (due to my acid reflux), and after I told him I occasionally have blood in the stool he recommended I have another colonoscopy. (I had my first one IIRC in August 2021.)
As has been discussed on here many times, the procedure itself is no big deal, it’s the day before and morning of prep that is annoying. Heck, when I had my colonoscopy five years ago, I also had an upper endoscopy (my third at the time) done as part of the same surgery. Having them both the same day wasn’t an issue during or after the surgery; everything still took only about 2 hours. Tube in one end, finish up, then different tube in the other end!

Congratulations! It’s an important thing you can do for your health!

I finally got one after ignoring two poop tests the insurance company sent.
It’s not so bad. The prep is rough. I recommend the pills over the liquid for prep. But they put you under for the procedure, so you go into the OR, they give you a shot, and you wake up in the recovery room. The best part is that you don’t have to do it again for 10 years.

Horrible. And very, very necessary. And actually the procedure is fine - it’s the prep that’s… uh… explosive.
Lightningstruckagain@reddit
Good for you. It’s not near as bad as you think it will be.
