Suggested upgrades

Hi all,
currently having a rtx3070 and a ryzen 3700x, and my monitor is a 27 inch 144 hz. I'm looking to upgrade my setup and right now I'm set on upgrading my CPU to a 5800xt and potentially getting a new monitor. Do you think I should stay with 1080p or would a 3070/5800xt combo be sufficient for a 1440p monitor? I normally play shooter games like arc raiders, valorant, and a few indie titles here and there (big on risk of rain 2 rn).

My friend has 3070 and its fine with 1440p for him

I had a 3070 and it isn't enough for those new triple a games so I upgraded last year
Edwinbakup@reddit
Well yeah but even then you can lower settings or use aggressive upscaling
plus op plays games easy to run

Lowering settings doesn't work for all games. Cyberpunk just doesn't run well anymore even on medium to low and stalker 2 is basically impossible to run
Edwinbakup@reddit
Well then you are pretty picky because stalker 2 is definitely playable at optimized settings and dlss quality

Dude I was tryna play that game at medium to low with dlss on performance at 1440p and was maybe getting 40

Maybe your drivers or you were playing just as it launched? Watching benchmarks it seems people get 50-60 fps and occasional 40fps drops

3070 is fine for 1440p, 5800xt will be an upgrade on the CPU, but keep in mind this is the end of the upgrade path, and that path is several years out dated. But for the reflectively low price this will help you pull the most you can out of an old AM4 setup.

Honestly 9070 / 9600x or 7600x is best for you

In case you plan to upgrade the GPU in the future it might be worth it to get a 1440p. Also 27 inch is a sweetspot for 1440p, for 1080p resolution it is too large.
RTX 3070 is ok-ish GPU for 1440p. Although you might be running out of VRAM in newer games, it should be ok for a few more years.

save your money and go for a better GPU instead of the CPU or do both at the same time

Rather than getting a new CPU, you should get a new GPU. At 1440p the load on CPU becomes less and the heavy lifting is done by the GPU.
I would recommend getting the RX 9060 XT 16GB. It will play most shooters at 100FPS in 1440p res.
