Why don't joined Trill keep 1d6 :Spare bodies frozen in styrolite cannisters? Think of having a new body every day of the week.

Because they can't just switch bodies at will. A Trill has to go through years of training to even be considered for joining, and once the bond is made, removal of the symbiont will kill the host.

Odan was in the Beard for several hours during the negotiations though, probably even as much as a day.

If I remember correctly, it was a topic that keeping the symbiont too long would kill Riker.

The Beard was joined and he didn't die after the Symbiote was removed.
Curious_Orange8592@reddit
The Symbiont wasn't in him long enough. Same with Dax and Verad, the Symbiont was removed early enough that he could survive
However, multiple joinings in quick succession aren't good for either, it is major surgery
Overpass_Dratini@reddit
That's true. Different physiology maybe. I know that if a joined Trill becomes separated from their symbiont, they will die.

I thinks it's a time thing. Depends on how long the two are joined, the longer they are joined the dependent they become on each other.
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
Remember that Trill who tried to steal "Dax", almost killing Jadzia? His name was Verad. Since his joint wasn't completed, Dax could finally be removed successfully again and Verad would live on, mentally unstable or so.

Ezri wasn't even considered a host yet she was one. You don't need training to be a host
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
Don't we all know from Joran that every Trill could become a host? But that must be kept secret, and the symbionts aren't that many?
Overpass_Dratini@reddit
Ezri became a host because she was the only Trill on board the ship that was taking the Dax symbiont home. Dax was injured when Jadzia was killed, and would have died if they hadn't been joined right away. It was an emergency situation. And Ezri was clearly not prepared to be a host, because she struggled with adjusting to everything.

The years of training aren't actually necessary though, they even say at one point its just a way to keep the numbers down because there aren't enough symbiotes for all the people who want to be hosts.
geobibliophile@reddit
True, but there is the caveat that not all Trill are physiologically capable of being joined, just that the Symbiosis Commission says the number of people who can be joined physiologically is much lower than it really is.
I imagine the truth would have to come out eventually.

I see a Cabal of Symbiotea buying the unjoined as easy as buying clothes. Huge ranches where they're breed and sold to the Cabal as disposable.
