April 6th: Kremlin Confirms Trilateral Ukraine Peace Talks Paused, Maintains US Contact
https://united24media.com/latest-news/kremlin-confirms-trilateral-ukraine-peace-talks-paused-maintains-us-contact-17653
This isn't some kind of breakthrough. The US basically said it won't deal with the war in Ukraine while it was preoccupied with Iran.
People shouldn't expect much from these talks; Russia maintains maximalist demands that Ukraine would rather settle on the battlefield. Elections in Hungary and the further (d)evolution of Russia's finances will be a much better indicator in how close this war is to ending.
Dirkdeking@reddit
But why would Zelensky bring this up. If anything it is good for him that the US is busy elsewhere. They always end up pressuring Ukraine and demanding concessions from them whenever US attention shifts towards the Ukraine war.
These negotiations aren't in the interest of Ukraine as long as Trump is president.
archontwo@reddit
Is there a week in the last 5 years when Zelensky is not trying to grab headlines?
Tough_Substance7074@reddit
Sorry, if you were trying to expel invaders from England, would you want your leaders being quiet and meek?
Duck_87@reddit
Or if you were forcefully mobilized under zelensky would you not want him to actually accomplish some type of piece instead of running his mouth for 5 years acting like his tough as fk while all his friends he assigned to high position are robbing the country blind in the middle of war? Just a thought...
Dirkdeking@reddit
Some type of piece? Zelensky accomplished a lot. Ukraine has been holding Russia at bay for more than 4 years now, despite being outnumbered and outgunned. That is no small feat. If Zelensky had fled they would now be ruled by Putin.
chillichampion@reddit (OP)
But what is his endgame? He has no exit strategy for the war except a forever war.
Dirkdeking@reddit
Their is no endgame. This is a war of survival. His endgame is the same endgame as Vietnam had when the US invaded. Defend until the attacker gets exhausted, or a political process gets underway where the attacker negotiates in good faith(not Russia).
Capitulation is not part of the endgame.
ImpossibleToe2719@reddit
Or they could have simply implemented the Minsk agreements.
archontwo@reddit
Maybe he should stick to his own conflict rather that trying to insert himself into they headlines of another.
He is an actor and like all actors he'd rather be in front of camera spouting bullshit than out of the headlines with no one paying attention to him.
mileslefttogo@reddit
I'm sure they would just ask them to leave and kindly not take any historical and/or cultural artifacts that dont belong to them...
loggy_sci@reddit
President of a country being invaded makes an announcement to a group of regional governing authorities that there will be peace talks in the future.
Russian shills on Reddit: “Zelenskyy is a primadonna trying to make headlines!!”
champagneface@reddit
I’m sure I read recently that weapons earmarked for Ukraine were being diverted, so that’s not great for them
Plane5496@reddit
Forget about weapons, nobody wants to die for Ukraine anymore.
champagneface@reddit
Who was dying for Ukraine outside of Ukrainians and volunteers?
Lopsided-Selection85@reddit
I assume he is talking about Ukrainians and volunteers. After Ukraine split up Foreign Legion and distributed regiments among the regular troops, the stream of volunteers basically dried up. Ukrainians them selves now attack enlistment officers to avoid conscription, while there is still a steady stream of 20k AWOL cases a month...
champagneface@reddit
Ah I getcha, I assumed they were referring to outsiders but this makes sense. Can’t blame them either.
Plane5496@reddit
Since youre willing to listen im willing to share. Here in Romania its a transit hub for Ukrainians who risk their life to cross the border. They cross thru charpatian mountains, at night. I talked to a few of this guys here in Bucharest, one was 19 years old ex Army strong guy we meet in an outdoor gym. Another guy was ex azov who wanted to tell his story of how bad he had it and how he was brainwashed and abused, and a couple other guys just wanted to live and dont get abducted from the streets. Problem was that Ukr government stopped issue passports to them , they didnt need a passport to come to romania but it was harder if they wanted to go to germany for example since they need to cross illegaly the birders and pay like 200 euro to border guards in hungary. But now that Romania is in shenzen its probably easier
Practical-Pea-1205@reddit
Who said anything about dying for them? Providing weapons doesn't mean fighting on the frontline.
Plane5496@reddit
Ukrainian souls dont count ? You sendimg them to die when they cant even win ?
Czart@reddit
Gods, they really did send every troll to the meatgrinder and now we're left with this low effort shit.
JohanFroding@reddit
Because he constantly emphasizes how Ukraine is willing to negotiate to convince the Trump admin that Putin is the impediment and needs to be brought to the table by pressure.
Chipay@reddit
The White House position isn't singular on this war. Vance's clique wants to appease Russia away from China, Rubio's wants a stable Europe so the military can focus elsewhere. Trump just wants a peace deal.
It's much better to have Trump's ear than not, and play American interests against each other.
Medical_Officer@reddit
Yeah, the US has not only lost the war in Iran, but also the wars in Ukraine and Taiwan.
Ukraine now knows that the US cannot support it anymore even if they wanted to. The missiles simply aren't there, and what few are left are reserved for Israel.
Taiwan has seen how trivially easy it is to block maritime shipping. China is giga-Iran, so it would be trivial for China to cut Taiwan off from all its fossil fuel imports, thus starving the country into surrender. There doesn't even need to be an invasion.
Duck_87@reddit
Didn't know the US had troops in Ukraine? How many did they lose exactly?
kinmix@reddit
I mean the US even provided a blueprint for doing that in Cuba...
