What's the last time you felt duped?

Trying to keep it light...
I've used Nivea soft moisturiser on my face for about a decade and never had any issues. Then this Christmas I got a little tube of No. 7 mens "energising moisturiser" and definitely got suckered into the marketing of being all energised
Treated myself to a couple of tubes and now have to moisturise twice as often with the pleasure of paying 10x the amount I used to spend 🙃

Every time I go on a tinder/bumble/hinge date 🤣

My sister convinced me to rescue a kitten that was going to end up in a bad spot because all the shelters were full. Told me she was a sweet chatty thing. She is a terror void that screams for attention, will only let you pet her in a box where she can take her violence out on you, and is determined to eat any food you might have. Love her to bits though, wee psycho.
matty491@reddit
I am severely disappointed in you for not posting picture of the murder box!
Fine_Analyst_4408@reddit
I tried but apparently I can't upload images!

I’m so glad you gave the ~~home~~ torture box she deserves.

I started running lately and a mate of mine told me to go to a running shop to get proper trainers. I'm size 13 and the literally sold me one of the two pairs they had at £160. Currently my knees have swollen and on week 4 of couch to 5k and feel I'm probably going to go back to my £45 sport direct pair. Thanks to my mate and thanks to running world.
rice_fish_and_eggs@reddit
Did you not have gait analysis to see what type of running shoes you needed?
Nice1rodders@reddit
Nope the lady in the shop just watched me run in them. Like I said. Size 13 and limited for choice. I kind of knew this as I was walking in. It's the equivalent of me walking into lush at Christmas where I just buy whatever the person behind the counter throws at me.

There could be a few different issues at play. First, it might be your weight. If you're heavier than the average person, then you'll compress the foam more than what it's designed for. This will lead to a stronger impact. Look at the Asics Nimbus, you can normally get last years model for half price.
Second, it could be pronation. If you under or overpronate, then you need a trainer designed to support you with it. Take a video of yourself running to figure it out, and then you can use filters on websites to find what you need.
Third, it could be poor form. Several things could be an issue in this regard. A fitness watch could give you insight into what needs improving.
rice_fish_and_eggs@reddit
Yeah, the first time I got running shoes I got the gait analysis too and the shoes I got were like running on clouds. After they wore out I bought the exact same make but an updated model and they were absolute agony. I always get the gait analysis now. It's not worth dropping £120+ on trainers that are useless.
Tricky-Reporter-5246@reddit
Should have watched you run out with them

I am a ginger haired lady.. 39y have had eczema and dermatitis my entire life. Used everything from non perfume , simple brand skin care, anti wrinkle , bee venom, sensitive skin creams ect. . Anything that said helps with eczema and or sensitive skin.. a few weeks a go i put everything i had in my house product wise into chat gpt and asked to give a skin care routine .. literally gave me 2 steps... a cleanser then light moisturiser.. that was it.. cheap as chips.. ive been duped into buying anything that said for sensitive skin, eczema prone skin, itchy flaky skin, redness ect. My skin isn't amazing and hasn't taking years off ect 😂 but deffo less rash and redness and can see difference .

Chocolate Easter Eggs, they are shrinking every year.

And in my case, I now have a severe intolerance to fruit because I’d be eating these, along with a shit ton of other fruit, all the time.

Mate moisturising your face at all is being duped.
Laescha@reddit
Nah. If I don't moisturise my face then my skin gets all flaky and gross. It's not the case for everyone, but for me moisturiser really makes a difference to how my face looks and feels.
Antisocial-Metalhead@reddit
I have KP so moisturising is a must. Still love some Vaseline though as it is fantastic for keeping moisture in.
darcsend_eu@reddit
Is it possible your skin becomes dependent on it?
Mireillka@reddit
It's a myth that skin gets dependant on moisturising, same like the myth about training scalp to be less oily...
There are absolutely random traits or conditions that some people have that for them those things worked. For example: a person with more than average amount of Malassezia yeast on their skin will end up flaking more if they use a wrong moisturiser (cos the yeast feeds on the ingredients), so stopping it will seem like their skin got less dry.
Milam1996@reddit
Yes in the sense that it will go back to being dry and ugly if you stop doing it.
Tricky-Reporter-5246@reddit
Do you really need skin?
Intelligent-SoupGS88@reddit
My nan always used to use a product called "Ponds cold cream" (can vividly remember the scent) - the only product and barely a line on her face.
Sometimes the basic products are the best
Antisocial-Metalhead@reddit
My mum swore by Ponds cold cream and Johnson’s baby lotion for removing her makeup. Gutted that they discontinued it.
feetflatontheground@reddit
I have not heard Ponds Cold cream mentioned in decades. Wow!
farraigemeansthesea@reddit
I remember Poundland selling it in the late 90s/early 2000s. I'm that old.
Uhura-hoop@reddit
Yes absolutely. The other great things are looking after yourself generally with plenty of water and avoiding too much sun.
Zealousideal-Habit82@reddit
Love a pot of Nivea for men. Great stuff and value. I shall resist the urge to "upgrade".
Tricky-Reporter-5246@reddit
Can you use hand cream on your mush, do you reckon? Gotta be the same stuff?
Fit-Bedroom-7645@reddit
You can, but might be a bit greasy depending on your skin
Milam1996@reddit
Basically every skincare product is a complete scam. Vaseline has the highest moisture leakage prevention score. Nivea creme that comes in a blue tin is super thick and moisturising. Retinols need to be prescription strength to actually do anything. For your face you need two finger lines of spf JUST FOR YOUR FACE. Youre also terrible at putting it on so use spf50 so it acts like 30. Use chemical sunscreens because you wont put enough mineral sunscreen on. No it doesnt give you cancer. Yes everything is a chemical. The only two ingredients approved to make anti aging claims are retinoids and SPF.

Got a same day plumber round the other day. £60 call out fee.
Within seconds he quoted 5x the rate I was expecting.
Felt like such a con. The choice was to pay the stupid price or give him £60 for under one minute's assessment.
MountainMuffin1980@reddit
I never understood how those things were meant to energise you? It makes no sense.
I bought a (thankfully very cheap) car window cleaner sponge thingy I got advertises on Instagram. It was shite.
