Appreciation post for Santa Fe & White Rock trails

Katy trail this, Katy trail that — I have to give the “best trail(s) in Dallas” award to Santa Fe & White Rock. I’ve been enjoying them almost daily for 4 years and they never get old.
Beautiful sunsets, beautiful trees, I see rabbits every day, have seen owls, all different colors and songs of birds, and even fireflies.
There are always kids and families out enjoying themselves. It’s just such a nice environment ❤️
My favorite retort to “there’s no green / nature in Dallas” is always “well have you walked Santa Fe / White Rock?” (and most people say “what is Santa Fe?”)

We need some of this south of 30, there's really nothing like it that connects so many neighborhoods

I’ll be thrilled when they connect the Trinity spline trail. It will open up the south so much

Agreed!

Used to live real close to the trail near Woodrow Wilson hs. Loved living so close to a big pretty park.

Hell yeah, it’s the best part of living here IMO.
Also SFT connects to a lot of businesses so you can get by without using a car as much

This! I can walk to my local grocery store, neighborhood restaurant, and Starbucks, all via the trail. It’s nice when you just want to stretch your legs and feel like you live in a “walkable city” (even if just for a moment, lol)

Katy trail is more popular because of the sheer number of residents that live walking distance to it. More people out exercising is always good, but it's never going to beat a lake for views.

“More people out exercising is always good”, yes!
I will say though, even just on the Santa Fe trail (no lake views, just trees) it’s more enjoyable than Katy Trail, not due to views but just the lack of chaos. Since it’s in Dallas city limits and connects all the way from Deep Ellum to Fair Park to White Rock, I’d think it has a lot of people living of it in walking distance as well. No one ever seems to know what I’m referring to when I mention it (even people who live right near it) - just thought it deserved some appreciation! 🌳👟
