A persistent myth claims that the logo is based on the image of an airplane propeller spinning in a blue sky. This myth likely stems from a 1929 BMW advertisement that depicted the logo superimposed on a rotating propeller. However, the logo predates that advertisement by 12 years.
There was a thread elsewhere the other day that was talking, essentially, things that animals have experienced that they could never have fathomed. Spurred on, of course, by that video of the parrot in the submarine...
...I wonder where seeing a low-level, supersonic strategic bomber go by fits into the worldview of cows.
I grew up on a farm about 24 miles NW of Bunker Hill/Grissom AFB where these bad boys were based. If the cows were Holsteins rather and Angus, that picture could have been of our farm. So many times can I recall one or two screaming across the countryside at seemingly treetop level. They weren't that low but that is my memory and I'm sticking with it. Quite familiar with sonic booms.

What's the source for this photograph? I'm a photo-historian, and I'm very interested in a high-res version.
ReV46@reddit
Didn’t know BMW made flying engines.
Atholthedestroyer@reddit
That's how they got started. Their logo is supposed to be a spinning propeller
dioptase-@reddit
i'd like to know t.t
Atholthedestroyer@reddit
Huh, did not know that.
ReV46@reddit
I know. It’s a joke because they make an engine called the B58 nowadays.

Gives me Dr. Strangelove vibes.

Totally, I got that vibe too

Weird that this was around in an era where there were ufo sightings
ilovebooks2468@reddit
Weird how UFO sightings didn't become commonplace until the advent of aircraft...

Can't imagine why...

Looks loud (subsonic). Any comparison with the BONEs?
davesoc@reddit
The B-58 is supersonic. Broke multiple speed records.
bozoconnors@reddit
Am aware. I don't doubt it's loud going supersonic though, which is why I specified lol.
davesoc@reddit
Copy. Didn’t know if you were saying it was a subsonic bomber.
BearFan34@reddit
None, unfortunately
bozoconnors@reddit
Ah dangit. Looks like they'd go toe to toe in a dB battle lol.
Lastminutebastrd@reddit
They've got one at the SAC museum in Omaha, NE. Very cool being able to get up close to it.
CivilEGR@reddit
There's no way to know that. It could be a Cessna or weather balloon. /S

What a great photograph!

Can't imagine the cows appreciating the racket.
