Am I the only dude on earth that actually enjoyed this?

Had a discussion with some coworkers. Some remember it as awful, some never even heard of it. I actually really liked this drink. Am I the only one?
I_argue_for_funsies@reddit
Meh. Everyone tried them but they never made any kind of rotation.
Clearly Canadian was a better drink without the backwash floaties.
WasteOfBerries@reddit
Orbitz was made by Clearly Canadian, but it makes sense that we only miss Clearly Canadian.
The backwash floaties is the beverage equivalent of >!an SFW bukkake!<
I_argue_for_funsies@reddit
Whoa!! I didn't know that but it makes sense
Aestryx47@reddit
We grew up on Dunkaroos and Ecto Cooler. Our taste buds have seen war. This drink never stood a chance against us because we actually liked it.
Onthemightof@reddit
One of my elementary school friends was allergic to something in Ecto Cooler, but his mom always had it in the house for his siblings. One day we were hanging at his spot, and he asked if I could help him get the Ecto Cooler that his mom stashed in their pantry. We successfully apprehended the six or eight juice boxes and crushed em all. Homie’s face blew up the size of a balloon and had to get taken to the hospital and administered an epi-pen. Needless to say, I wasn’t allowed over at Derek’s house anymore after that day.
Odd-Term9866@reddit
I miss Ecto Cooler! I had hoped they'd bring it back with all the new Ghostbusters movies, but no! 😩
Far_Acanthaceae_4226@reddit
I used Ecto Cooler as a mixer in college 😂
johnvalley86@reddit
There were dozens of us! Dozens!
Arik50@reddit
Yes 😁
Stardustquarks@reddit
Yes
bony-tony@reddit
Junior year spring break trip someone bought a bottle, which then was displayed on a shelf all senior year until someone broke it at a party.
No idea what it tastes like, but we did talk about it a fuck of a lot.
Anon_squanch@reddit
You are not alone.
CUNextTwosday@reddit
My dad has a few of those still unopened on his bookshelf.
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
Did they discolor at all?
CUNextTwosday@reddit
Also my dad said they did not discolor
CUNextTwosday@reddit
I think they did. I’ll see if I can have him send a photo. We joked about opening one and drinking it. 😂
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
Please don't. But I'd definitely be interested to see it after all these years
CUNextTwosday@reddit
My mom sold them on eBay for $50 😂
TheAnswerUsedToBe42@reddit
Watch: Nirvana the band, the movie. You'll love it.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
I did.
aarvarkitechture@reddit
I liked them too! The chewy bits were kind of fruit snack-adjacent and the whole concept was just novel in a time where boba tea wasn’t on our radar.
glassysurface84@reddit
No, I absolutely loved them. I think it's why I love bubble tea
CherryCherry5@reddit
No, I really liked them. Maybe it was just me and you. Lol
zeroaxs@reddit
I loved it.
scattershotdreams@reddit
I liked it and was disappointed when it was discontinued!
gee8@reddit
Check out “Nirvanna the band the show the movie” — this film is powered by Orbitz
Themoosemingled@reddit
Saw it twice. Both times within 100m of the film locations.
Silver-Monkey@reddit
Yes! One of the most creative comedies in years, and due to the nostalgic nature of the movie very much belongs in this sub.
Professional_Scale66@reddit
As someone who saw this entire movie I can assure you that you do not need to to watch this movie. The gif and explanation here are more than enough. Too much for a veteran like me. I thought I escaped those horrors and tried to convince myself it was all a bad dream…
redbeardscrazy@reddit
I loved it.
ashores@reddit
I'm from the timeline where Orbitz existed as a travel company.
imhereforyoursnacks@reddit
“What if we made a soft drink, but it has shit floating around in it?”
Trick-Session2388@reddit
I'm a lady but I enjoyed it.
rivalpinkbunny@reddit
You mean plastic balls and simple syrup?
jokerfest@reddit
WhatTheCluck802@reddit
Yes. The texture of the orbs always skeeved me out.
danlost40@reddit
I like them was great have
Out-There1013@reddit
All I know is I'm curious as hell about what it was like to drink and hate that I missed my chance to try it
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
My interpretation was cough syrup consistency, with odd little balls that tickled your throat on the way down. Sounds gross for sure. But I can't name anything else that has the same taste or texture.
Ordinary_Aioli_7602@reddit
I never tried it, the floating balls made it look thick to me, I suppose
caddy45@reddit
My parents wouldn’t buy these or Clearly Canadian water.
acespacegnome@reddit
I liked the beverage, but hated the orbs. They were tasteless balls of gelatin that added nothing to the over all flavor
cbih@reddit
They were fun as a novelty, but they were more viscious than I like my beverages to be.
Aggravating-Baby1239@reddit
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
Lol, thanks for that
Juztaan@reddit
Skittlebrau
ianzabel@reddit
I remember it, but never tried it because it seemed gross.
What did it taste like? Soda? Sweet? Carbonated?
WasteOfBerries@reddit
Non-carbonated, thicker than water, and very, very sweet.
The jelly beads had texture but basically no flavour
TotallyNotRobotEvil@reddit
Same, I remember it being somewhat popular but thinking it looked gross, so never tried it.
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
It had its own flavor and consistency. One of those "you just had to try it" kind of things
tarheelfire@reddit
I liked it, but it wasn't widely available where I lived, so it could've just been novelty. I also liked Clear Pepsi, so maybe I'm just weird? Actually, I am weird, and it's a defining part of our generation's character...
TotallyNotRobotEvil@reddit
I did like crystal pepsi. People hated it because it was weird, mentally, but it tasted great.
deephurting66@reddit
The blobs didn't taste like anything
barktwiggs@reddit
I was slurping down the Orangina. Yup, that was it's actual name.
coci222@reddit
Looked cool, but it was too sugary and viscous for me
Canadatron@reddit
I recall the liquid as something I'd call syrupy compared to other drinks but not necessarily sweeter than other stuff.
I liked them personally. It was at the same time as a Lava Lite resurgence in the 90s
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
For what it's worth, I also really enjoyed original red nyquil thanks to a friend's aunt who had atrocious adulting skills.
coci222@reddit
I was a DimeTapp kid
APOC_V@reddit
That weird medicine grape flavor would absolutely gag me. Cherry children’s Tylenol was like candy though.
EvenLettuce6638@reddit
OG green fucking death flavor NyQuil.
barkinbeagle@reddit
I was too busy drinking Clearly Canadian and Snapple to bother with these 🤣
Miserable-Okra-8787@reddit
Yes
msbeaver83@reddit
Little slimy balls going down my throat 🤮
TotallyNotRobotEvil@reddit
Title of my sex tape.
Esternaefil@reddit
Naw, I loved that.
Xennial Boba Tea.
Fair_Blood3176@reddit
Why am I thinking this is related to car rentals.
birdseatpizza@reddit
I loved them!
Over_Interaction_925@reddit
Yup let me guess you like boba tea to? I saw someone on yt that remade these.
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
Never been a huge fan.
draoikat@reddit
Nope, I really liked them.
sasssyrup@reddit
Yes yes you are
tifumostdays@reddit
Probably. Were you very young? We loved the idea, but I don't know anyone who clamored for more.
Bushgooher@reddit
Got it for free at HMV once. So gross we took them to the topnotch a parade and spilled it out down onto the street. The bottles followed soon after.
Angelas-Merkin@reddit
So gross
DandyLionsInSiberia@reddit
The Orbitz style drink has seen something of a (healthier) revival in recent years Via boba tea. Unlike Orbitz’s suspended beads - which were a Frankenstein mixture of gellan and xanthan gum, boba relies on tapioca pearls, a more natural ingredient.
They were a fun novelty.. but ultimately more of an occasional curiosity for many, with most buying once or twice before gravitating back to more conventional options.
Fun piece of nostalgia though..
angnicolemk@reddit
Why post AI response?
DandyLionsInSiberia@reddit
Oh. Not ai.
UK / European dialect English.
Lastofthehaters@reddit
Yup
__Dark_Triad__@reddit
I loved these! I remember there was a tropical-themed one (coconut or pineapple or something like that?) that was sooo good!
I also remember them being more expensive than normal soda, so I didn't get to buy as many as I wanted lol
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit (OP)
Yes! The tropical is the one I remember most. Granted I couldn't put a name on what the actual flavor was compared to what was on the bottle.
Enough_Spray_7811@reddit
Very useful if you need to time travel
MsBlondeViking@reddit
I loved these. They were actually pretty popular in my area. Only 1 grocery store, out of 5, actually had them in stock all the time.
angnicolemk@reddit
Yes. The flavors were bad, the texture was bad, just.... gross.
moonbunnychan@reddit
I genuinely really liked it. I remember when they discontinued me and my boyfriend at the time, who also really likes it, went to like every store within an hour's drive and bought up all they had.
three-sense@reddit
I don’t remember anything special about it other than seeing it for sale at Hastings and deciding to try it
nolafrog@reddit
My grandpa was a truck driver for a distributor and would get us a bunch for free. Was pure awesomeness
SeaSkimmer2@reddit
I feel like this goes hand in hand with the post a month or two ago from the xennial woman who realized she only dated men who used Pantene.
alvinofdiaspar@reddit
It was a fun drink but not spectacular.
