Orbán will wrap up his campaign on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at Szentháromság tér (Trinity Square) in the Buda Castle, but I imagine they won’t let ordinary people in as usual (that square is pretty small anyway)
During your conversations, don’t forget that within the country, this is just a smaller “Budapest bubble”; the majority live in smaller towns in the countryside, many of whom are poorer, less educated, and have less personal experience with other countries, the elderly, in particular, rely solely on the offline media (TV, radio, county newspapers) to get information, so they’re much more easily influenced by propaganda than people in Budapest (most of whom were already in the opposition, which is why the Tisza Party will be campaigning in the countryside in the final days)—it’s a quite different world.
That was my perception as well! It was one of the reasons I wanted to talk with some more Fidez aligned people, even propaganda normally has a kernel of truth. However, the only Fidez event that was mentioned seems to be the campaign close and it will probably held in close doors :((
Likely not, apart from the 3rd item above. Lots of pubs will broadcast the live coverages, but those are limited spaces. I guess there will be larger crowds around public parts by early evening when at least some of the results are in, but I wouldn't expect anything major.
Nothings far away in Hungary :D
It is worthy, Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary, and has many things to see. I think you can easily have a day here. Also from an election perspective: Debrecen is kind of the first stronghold of Orbán’s Fidesz since the 1990’s and now they are about to lose it according to pollsters(even their own propaganda pollsters) so to be there is huge anyway.
Start is around 18:00 end could be some 20:00.
If i were you, i would sleep a night in debrecen and then get back to Budapest on election day.
Thank you so much for the help! I am really thinking of going but I already have an hostel in Budapest so I think I will probably catch the train back :))
There will be 50 performers in total, and everyone will sing one song which has to be some kind of a satire or criticism of the current Fidesz aligned system (Nemzeti Együttműködés Rendszere or in short NER, which roughly translates to System of National Cooperation)
Also some of the performers have english versions of their songs, for example the band Bankrupt. Check them out if you want.
FB event of the "opposition-aligned" concert:https://facebook.com/events/s/a-polgari-ellenallas-bemutatja/946130271694594/
It is free, so expect about 100 thousand people.
1 and 2. I don't know about any rallies happening. There are some campaign event still happening though, Magyar Péter is still touring the country visiting different cities, and the official campaign closure will be in Debrecen on Saturday evening. Fidesz has its campaign closure event on Budapest but I can't remember the details.
3. Will be at Batthányi tér and the rakpart next to it.
4. Will be at the '"Bálna"
Tisza’s last rally in Budapest was on the 15th of March and they close the campaign in Debrecen, however Fidesz will finish their campaign in Budapest in the castle district.
Regarding the watch parties - you will be able to attend the one that Tisza organizes (over at Batthany square)
