Put a doe under the wheels I-80

I was hauling into Bethel, PA on I-80, coming up on a tunnel when a doe started bouncing between lanes, concrete barriers on both sides, nowhere to go. Company policy said run over any animal, but I hated it.
Honestly, if it had been a four-point buck with a big rack staring me down, I would’ve slowed the truck way down and tried to nudge him out of the way instead of hitting him straight on. A big buck would do serious damage to your jig.
But this was just a doe, about four feet tall, and I ended up putting her under the wheels.
Pulled into the USA Truck terminal, told them what happened. They were like we’ll fix the grill. I helped the mechanic pop the hood on our Freightliner, and the whole damn hood slams to the ground.
Then the alternator seized, they put a new belt on, fired it up, and the belt exploded off the truck. Whole thing was a comedy of errors. I was heading out for a ski vacation so I just left it with them, called later and they said they got it sorted.
Mystery truck gremlins, man. So many things can go wrong on these rigs, and even one light out on the trailer can get you a ticket.
Would you hit a bear or a moose and try to put that under the wheels?

Ive hit several deer, ussually they run in front of me right when someone is passing. So yeah swearving is off the table, did have one blow a tire on the trailer once though adter my truck got its protien for the month

Super trucker if I’m on I-80 when I hit the deer. Take out your Map Book and tell me what route I gotta take to get down to Bethel. It’s an old story. It actually happened around 2007.
Almost 20 years ago. I need to tell my story about how I drove a damaged trailer through cemetery. To avoid a scale house ticket. Driver probably shouldn’t even have a CDL anymore.

And nobody questions the tunnel on I-80 part?

I bet it's scary sometimes inside your head

Who me?
DumatRising@reddit
I'm not gonna hit a moose if I can help it those mother fuckers are blocks. Moose will fuck up anything that hits them, semi might get away without getting totaled and it might kill the moose but you won't be going anywhere fast after that.
I'd rather hit anything else that isn't a human than a moose.
Kortobowden@reddit
Especially the bull moose that have those giant antlers at the perfect height for the windshield

Facts!
DumatRising@reddit
Before the combustion engine was even a concept in humanity's mind the moose was already evolutionarily designed to ruin your day by existing on the road you want to drive on.

I sure as shit don’t want to hit anything bigger than a mulie at highway speed. I’ve only got a half grille xguard on the truck.
PoopyStinkbutts@reddit
Yeah there's been deer splattered everywhere around these parts the last.. four months
You really should keep in your lane and keep your speed when you come across one, though. It's a safety issue. When's the last time you checked the Mansfield bar on the back of the trailer for rust or other imperfections? Deer also cause less damage when you hit them at higher speeds because they mostly just explode everywhere instead of doing major damage.

I need to poop

bruh what 💀

Clearly the commenter figured out we were sharing useless information… “the deer are out in force during mid to late spring…”. Yep, and water is wet, what else isn’t new. 🤷♂️

Fascinating
Handmedownfords@reddit
I think the meant don’t swerve to avoid an animal. If you could have slowed down to avoid a buck, you should have slowed down to avoid a doe.
XGrimmcommandoX@reddit (OP)
This is 100% true I had the opportunity I could’ve slowed down. Did I absolutely not? I’m a super trucker.
oneshadeoff@reddit
Exactly what I was thinking.

Facts!! Roadkill Café will suit for defamation.

Clearly, nowhere and company policy does it ever say use common sense?

And this is why Australians have bull bars, can hit a pig/roo/deer/goat at 100kph and just keep trucking
Actual bull/cattle/camels/horses tho... well it'll let you limp home but youre still gunna have a bad time
XGrimmcommandoX@reddit (OP)
You do not want to hit a big animal in the Australian outback. When it’s just you by yourself.
Who really wants to be up sh*ts creek. Waiting for help. Not every truck in America has a push bar on the front hood. And a plastic hoods can’t take a hit like a steel hood can. When I hit that deer, it broke the hinges.
Gr00veChild@reddit
Yeah the deer have been out in masses this week.
