I sat in a new Tesla Y. The heat coming from the glass roof was too much even with the AC. Im heat sensitive. Does anyone use a sun shade or glass cover to keep the heat out? Might be a deal killer if I can't solve this issue 🥲

Absolutely hilarious that these pieces of fascist garbage don’t come with a roof shade.
Cheeko914@reddit
Far from garbage products. Just because you don’t like the CEO doesn’t mean everything he makes/does is bad
JP147@reddit
I have been hearing about how terrible those cars are long before people hated Elon Musk
Cheeko914@reddit
The older ones were shitty, it was a new company with not nearly as much data or money for R&D to make them good cars, that happens with any new car company. But in the last 5 years they’ve improved significantly.
No_Topic5591@reddit
I'm pretty shocked they don't come with electric sliding blinds. Even my 15yr old Civic has those under the glass roof.
Historical-Bite-8606@reddit
It’s because sliding shades have a high chance of breaking. Had this happen to me on various BMWs and MBs/ Tesla minimizes things that can cost them money under warranty.
Such-Regret4652@reddit
I do believe that they intentionally made it that way so that most drivers would have a more open and airy feeling cabin.
Either ways it's not an expensive mod to add on automatic sunshades, manual ones are even cheaper.
Noxfag@reddit
Is the fact that by buying one you'd be supporting an outright fascist not reason enough not to buy one?
StormTrpr66@reddit
Sooooo.....no one here drives a Ford, VW, or Toyota. No one here buys from Amazon. No one here posts on X or Facebook or whatever they're called today.
Ford was a very vocal nazi.
VW is literally a nazimobile created by adolf himself.
Toyota's CEO is a known maga.
Amazon's CEO is a known maga.
Facebook, ditto.
An awful lot of hypocritical virtue signaling going on here.
Can no one here separate the vile Tesla CEO from the car itself?

You are supporting fascists with every purchase you make. Most of the food industry is supported by nestle, whise CEO thinks water is nit a human right.
If you just care about Elon because hes more vocal then you are simply sheep.
Truth is that you do not have the ability to access products that are free from oligarchs. Deal with it. Accept that you, me, and 99.99% of people are just cockroaches and move on. Buy whatever performs best and thats it.
Noxfag@reddit
Your argument only makes any sense whatsoever if you just completely ignore any sense of scale or relative morality. You speak as if one company dodging a few taxes is just as bad as the innumerable crimes of Elon Musk.
aquatone61@reddit
Crimes? WTF are you on about?
N1xkev@reddit
There is a correlation of people going missing at ice facilities and proximity to neuralink sites. The man actively and openly supported political parties that campaigned on racial purity and other alt-right movements. Just because he hasn't been convicted of a crime doesn't mean he isn't a criminal
aquatone61@reddit
A correlation? So in your mind he’s guilty of thought crime, got it. Wow, you must be popular on r/politics. Why don’t you go back there and impress them with your virtue signaling.
N1xkev@reddit
You really don't understand what either of us are saying, do you?
aquatone61@reddit
I do it’s just none of it is true.

Musk only owns 15% of Tesla.
darkmanx2g@reddit
You're a god damn idiot.
aquatone61@reddit
Oh stop it.
GoBlueBeatOSU21@reddit
Why, are your feelings hurt?
Sea-Rip3902@reddit (OP)
The guy is a nutter no doubt. But the Americans thst build these machines are forgotten when we only discuss the owner. Tesla is in decline. I would hate to see it fsil.
Such-Regret4652@reddit
Preach it brother. Just because musk is crazy doesn't mean that Teslas cars aren't objectively good products.
Dom29ando@reddit
They quite literally have the highest accident rate of any auto manufacturer.
Such-Regret4652@reddit
and what proof do you have that it is due to the car?
fpsfiend_ny@reddit
That's funny....the rest of us WANT the fascist and its supporters to fail.
Sideburn_Cookie_Man@reddit
That’s insane
TheFlashOfLightning@reddit
That’s probably true of most things you buy, services you use, banks, etc.
Not saying it doesn’t matter, it’s just more than likely
Noxfag@reddit
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. But there is a massive difference in scale between your average rich asshole and Musk.
ShawtySayWhaaat@reddit
Just tint it
Historical-Bite-8606@reddit
This! My Tesla glass roof has 50% Ceramic on top of the factory dye glass (dye glass does nothing), and all the windows are 35% ceramic, except the windshield is 80% ceramic.
It’s cheaper to buy the glass roof shades of Amazon, but I think they can look cheesy.
ShawtySayWhaaat@reddit
Yeah, I know Op is saying that it needs more than tint, but I've got dark ceramic tint on my sunroof and I've never had an issue, keep in mind I live in the Mojave desert where it regularly gets to 110 during the summer lol
Then again, my sunroof isn't nearly as big as a Tesla's, but still it makes a world of a difference.
And yeah I probably wouldn't bother getting a roof shade off Amazon either, I'm surprised that Tesla doesn't offer a sliding shade, even my little fiesta has one, but I guess it wouldn't look as sleek.
Historical-Bite-8606@reddit
I also live in the desert. 110-115 summer days. Never an issue with the heat while driving. Tesla has great climate control features in the app, including a feature to never let the car get too hot while sitting outside. Also, if I’m running into a store, I just push the climate keeper button, and when I return, it’s the same temp inside (Dog Mode is also awesome).
Tesla sells a sunshade. It’s nicer than the ones off Amazon.
ShawtySayWhaaat@reddit
Honestly that's probably the only thing that I really envy y'all Tesla owners for, you can just keep running the climate control while you go inside so your car doesn't cook into an oven.
I mean technically I can do that, but either I leave the car running and risk someone stealing it, or running in accessory where it might just not start when I get back to it haha
Sea-Rip3902@reddit (OP)
I'm very familiar with ceramic heat deflection tint. In this case it needs more then that.
RepairBudget@reddit
I haven't noticed a heat problem yet in my wife's new Y Juniper. We did get ceramic on the windshield and front windows though. I drove it on a road trip recently and commented on the lack of heat compared to her old model 3 without tinting.
There are also sunshades for the roof, but we haven't seen a need for one yet. Maybe when summer is in full swing here in Texas it will be different.
ShawtySayWhaaat@reddit
I think you just need to look at cars without a sunroof, maybe that feature just isn't for you.
dinglebarryb0nds@reddit
Yea it would be nice if a decent trim in any vehicle didn’t have a sunroof. My sequoia has one. Seems like one of those things that seemed like a luxury feature in the 80’s that somehow just stuck around.
Just seems like a point of failure that most people don’t care about
One_Evil_Monkey@reddit
Can't stand sunroofs, t-tops, or convertibles.
If I want the sun and wind thing I'll get on my motorcycle. When I'm in a vehicle I want an actual roof over my head.
Sea-Rip3902@reddit (OP)
Very frustrating.
808_GhostRider@reddit
I endure the Vegas summers 110+ for 3-4 months out of the year. You’re right, the base oem “heat rejection” doesn’t cut it. But what does it for me is xpel xr plus tint. I put 35% on it so I can still see out of it and get that airy feeling but my head doesn’t even feel the heat.
datageek404@reddit
Do white seats help?
s_nz@reddit
Yes, I use the Vion brand one, with the opaque sheet from anouther brand I found to saggy on top of it.
A glass roof is not a great idea when selling your cars in Queensland...
Sea-Rip3902@reddit (OP)
I agree. This problem is overlooked or dismissed. Tint is great but not enough. You need a sun blocker. Tesla needs to do better here.
FrequentNebula4919@reddit
There are plenty of other EVs that have electric sunshades. Tesla is just cheap
CookInKona@reddit
Or you buy a vehicle with the features you want instead of the d tier electric car sold by a fascist
One_Evil_Monkey@reddit
It's hilarious that back when sunroofs were a "luxury" option they actually came with a sliding shade built in.... now damn near everything has a huge glass panel up there and sunshades are sold separately.
Anyway... install some 2% limo tint up there (or have installed if you cant DIY). Only lets 2% of outside light through. You can also do a 20% mirror tint. Lets 20% of light through but the mirror helps reflect a little more heat. Both will do a world of good in knocking down temps in the cabin and thoroghly help with heat rejection. If your local area doesn't have some weird laws against it, having 35% installed on the rear glass and doors will help a lot as well. Even a 50% tint will help.
HenryLoggins@reddit
Tint
Dramatic-Bedroom-759@reddit
Can you tint plus precondition the ac in your car on sunny days? I do that and it makes it comfortable to get in and immediately drive
DonkeyHair@reddit
Never been an issue and I’m in TX and bald.
Crank that AC!
TheNoLifeKing@reddit
There are many solutions to this, and tons of sun shade options if you don’t want to increase the tint. Even Tesla sells a sunshade.
Flightwise@reddit
And there are some third party suppliers who sell motorised sun shades
