As someone who purchased thier first 11.5 build and now wants an equally “reliable” rifle to replace their Ruger 556. Is this a good buy? I’m not super rushed but I want to stick to BCM, DD, or Gisselle. Seems worth the money.

Whats the real difference between the RIS vs DDM4 in quality? I snagged one of the 10.3"s that have been on sale lately, but I want a 16" for longer range plinking. I really can only tell its rails vs m-lok and maybe a more secure mounting.

Why do you want to replace your Ruger 556? I am the first to say that Ruger does not have the best quality control but if yours is one of the better assembled Ruger rifles then it should be reliable. If assembled correctly then the only weak point might be the BCG and you can buy a chrome Microbest off of the gundeals subreddit for about $110. Just keep the original Ruger BCG as a spare. Just make sure the castle nut and all the screws are tight on your Ruger.

Because it was on sale mislabeled at scheels for $470 right before Covid kicked off so I bought it. My father gave me an optic for it we sighted in, it works and it’s not bad.

But I wanted a shorty with a can you can move with, now I want a more “reliable” rifle since I have an idea of what I like. This one will have a LPVO on it

Compared to other uppers, without a BCG, not really.

Whats so good about RIS? I just know its supposed to be their heavy duty upper that allows more and heavier attachments but its heavier than their regular m4v7 upper. I want a maneuverable /LW upper that i wont even add a VFG to. Seems good enough for me!

Id say so, im on the same boat as you. I purchased one of KAKs FDE blems that was posted a bit ago and planning on using this as an upper to complete it. The only thing you’d be missing is the BCG which i went for a griffin armament enhanced and a radiant raptor SD as I do plan on getting a can for this later on

Also doesn’t come with a muzzle device so i just picked up a $9 A2 birdcage lol

Yeah, I was legit almost scared (fucking pathetic considering I’m a CNC guy) to make the 11.5. The shit is stupid easy and the tools to build everything in a kit was like $100 max (already had torque wrenches etc). People really should just make their own while they still can.

I live in a DemiDevil ran state, and they’re failing to pass the gun laws for “bans” but they’re staying in the house and such for a later date essentially. I know for sure I’ll need 2 lowers for a 5.56 and one for a .308 before mid terms because I really don’t trust it haha. Thanks for the heads up post

Took my first AR apart and put 2 of them back together with a pile of new/spare parts, all in my garage with a loose $30 vice from Amazon, a set of basic punches/hand tool, a pipe wrench, and a Midwest receiver rod (only specialized tool and it could’ve been done with a mag block).

The government profile isn't necessarily bad but it's definitely outdated at this point. Especially in a world where most people are going to run a suppressor, having a barrel with extra forward weight all by itself is not ideal

Warning: Midway shipped mine back in 2024 with the vertical grip and it's M-Lock hardware loose in the box. When I picked up the receiver the nut fell out of the receiver. Make sure you looked for all the hardware when you first open the box.

Heard a lot about recent out of the box torque-to-spec issues with Daniels not just midway, but regardless i think everyone should check their hardware is tightened to spec once they receive it

Midway or DD intentionally did not install the vertical grip. That is fine as each person may want to place it at different location. But they threw the mounting hardware in loose rather than in a plastic bag. Mine was not the only one shipped that way. One or more others confirmed their upper was shipped the same way.

SOTAR showed just last week the need for checking screws. The castle nut on my Ruger MPR came loose within 100 rounds.

I was wondering if the 10% and 20% coupons were still work. I got this upper back in October 2024 for $535 after 20% off. I did not think I would like the color but I and a relative really like it. It is very over gassed. To take the felt recoil I put a Sprinco extra power red buffer spring and H3 buffer. This combo has been working for everything except very weak ammo like PMC Bronze. With Bronze LRBHO does not work.
