Yeah, right after the standardized stop CD, eject CD, and "coffee" keys. Not even joking. All the better to standardize ways to remap 'em.
odosaur@reddit
Is this the kind of thing you need so the copilot key stops being Ctrl shift F24 kind of thing? So it can be removed to just be super or Ctrl?
garywilli@reddit
Tell me that's a joke
torsten_dev@reddit
Nope.
USB-HID huttrr119 seems to have been approved.
So at leaat google, Microsoft, Apple and Logitech think this is a good idea.
flying-sheep@reddit
Of course it is a good idea to support hardware that people have and use.
Linux maintainers don't control what stupid ideas laptop manufacturers have, they just deal with them.
torsten_dev@reddit
It's potential future hardware. I hope the products die in thwir market research focus groups, but probably not.
enchufadoo@reddit
Holy fuck, computer keyboards are about to have ~~Netflix~~ Copilot, ~~Hulu~~ Gemini, and ~~Prime~~ Claude keys.
ang-p@reddit
Extremely proud to have not once purchased anything with a "Netflix" button.
D0nkeyHS@reddit
I'm extremely proud to not care about whether or not I have something with a "Netflix" button.
ang-p@reddit
Turns out it is worse than that - 3 keys have been proposed...
Play the extras / behind the scenes / directors commentary on the currently paying movie Play a movie suggestion based on the currently playing movie Suggest a movie based on my history
Indolent_Bard@reddit
I wish more movies on streaming platforms had behind the scenes in extras. Especially ones that are exclusive to the platform.
ang-p@reddit
Heck, why not go one step further and make it exclusive to the button - if you didn't press the branded button, the content is impossible to view...
Netflix - I'm patenting that idea - if you want to use it, I want cash upfront....
D0nkeyHS@reddit
That has no bearing on my last comment nor your last comment, but sure, do this side picking thing and imagine I said something I didn't because I'm on that side 🙄
RoddyUsher@reddit
Haven't bought a TV in the last 10 years?
Sjoerd93@reddit
I literally haven’t, honestly don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. Especially now they no longer sell tvs without ” smart” functionality.
PixelmancerGames@reddit
Nope, monitors only.
ang-p@reddit
Not this century.
donut4ever21@reddit
Got'em
RebTexas@reddit
Same, I'm not paying for w product that includes a permanent advertisement.
Imaginary-Nail-9893@reddit
I personally love it. Reprogrammable keys
ang-p@reddit
AL Action on Selectioncould be mapped toF1since a whole shit-ton of users issues could be simply solved by pressing that goddamn key before posting for help...Some of them really do need
AIto open the help page....Indolent_Bard@reddit
What does AL action on selection do?
ang-p@reddit
From the linked blurb....
;-)

It's too late guys. They've already won, they have the kernel in their hands and are rewriting it with Rust.
Time to look seriously at the GNU/Hurd.
Indolent_Bard@reddit
I don't think anyone's seriously going to attempt to rewrite the kernel in rest. Mostly because that would be an insanely large project for little benefit. There's a difference between rewriting individual subsystems that aren't even part of the kernel like core utilities, and trying to rewrite parts of the kernel itself.
Sjoerd93@reddit
lol what does rust have to do with this particular thread?
Apart from the fact that Rust is a good idea anyway.
Natural_Night9957@reddit
Rust is a good idea appreciated by some really bad people.
TimChr78@reddit
If new keyboards are getting new keys Linux need to support them, even if the keys themselves are a bad idea.
naturist_rune@reddit
Ew, those will get pried out and soldered over to be useless. Last thing I want to do is fat-finger a robot awake to tell me how to do my job incorrectly.
Indolent_Bard@reddit
What robot? If there isn't one already installed on your system, it's not gonna do anything.
VexingRaven@reddit
Then don't install and configure one?
caligari87@reddit
You think the button controls the AI?
naturist_rune@reddit
Not at all, it's keyboard equivalent of saying "hey siri" to someone's iphone if they don't have voice commands turned off.
caligari87@reddit
So why would it do anything if you don't have an agent installed? Why boondoggle your hardware instead of just mapping the key to something else in software and putting a sticker on it?
Jack_Lantern2000@reddit
Anyone else just f**king sick and tired of “news” like this? What crap.
Indolent_Bard@reddit
I like seeing all these updates.
sylvester_0@reddit
The question is: which keys are they going to remove or further shrink to add these silly keys?
odsquad64@reddit
look what they took from us
Indolent_Bard@reddit
I wanted those power and sleep buttons until I realized that I would totally accidentally hit them by mistake.
sylvester_0@reddit
Nooope. Those "power" and "sleep" keys do not belong there!
Ok-Winner-6589@reddit
You can make them bigger or moddify other Keys.
Spanish Keys have a Ă‘ and are still QWERTY. They just have a different layout for Keys like :;'"*@# and all these
But they are probably gona sell bigger keyboards
Huge_Item3686@reddit
I'd remove spacebar, Ctrl and enter, just for lulz
DrShocker@reddit
Why so we need any keys, so long as there is a microphone?
ConsistentCat4353@reddit
Unfortunately it seems that this is a future. Voice-typing using AI while your "keyboard" consists of only couple of AI-related keys.
shponglespore@reddit
Backspace. Who needs it when you can just have AI correct everything for you? /s
sylvester_0@reddit
Only the weak make mistakes and need Backspace.
Booty_Bumping@reddit
What exactly is the USB Implementers Forum smoking?
Farados55@reddit
I want a button that auto prompts: “do it again but better”
IkBenAnders@reddit
You mean a macro that presses up arrow, take you to the start of the line and adds Sudo?
pdxbuckets@reddit
Alt-s in Fish
Farados55@reddit
You’re hired. You start as CEO tomorrow.
Cats7204@reddit
A whip button that plays a whipping sound and prompts "FASTER!" "WORK FASTER!" "WORK HARDER!" "FASTER!!"
Ugly_Slut-Wannabe@reddit
"WORK IT HARDER"
"MAKE IT BETTER"
"DO IT FASTER"
Hot-Employ-3399@reddit
In coding with qwen I say "add debug prints". My heart melts a little as it is able to do that and use
printfor debugging just like I do and it helps a lot as without prints it can't guess what happens.Âcrazedizzled@reddit
Learn how to use a debugger, your life will be so much easier
Hot-Employ-3399@reddit
You can pry print from my cold dead hands!
tdammers@reddit
Learn to write properly structured code and good automated tests, you won't need a debugger 99.999% of the time anymore.
Bl0CKDragon@reddit
Make no mistakes
sylvester_0@reddit
Tell me your plan before doing anything
tdammers@reddit
Isn't that what planning mode in Claude is?
MarkSuckerZerg@reddit
This but we should make it like caps lock where I can leave the mistakes permanently turned off
SharkBuildsBro@reddit
I can finally bind Neuro sama to a key on my keyboard
RoomyRoots@reddit
That is great. More keys to use on Emacs!
dddurd@reddit
but what would be the name. we already have ctrl, meta, super and hyper.
RoomyRoots@reddit
Mega, Giga, Peta, Alpha, Larry, Omega, Extra
natermer@reddit
More potential modifiers means more better.
Ok-Winner-6589@reddit
And?
My keyboard has Keys to increase the volumen but it's Up to the DE/WM to Support the functionallity. The kernel just have to be able to detect the input, anything else is done by the Desktop. And GNOME and KDE aren't probably gona add Copilot integration
ConsistentCat4353@reddit
I hope they will place them at the bottom of trackpads. One can link them to work as old trackpad keys.
Damaniel2@reddit
As long as I can disable the slop keys then fine. Of course, I'd prefer that computer makers not put the slop keys on there in the first place, but that would never happen...
githman@reddit
Hope they add buttons like Report a Hallucination and Why Does the Other AI Say Exactly the Opposite. Keyboard manufacturers are going to make it big.
MicroProcrastination@reddit
Ahahaha
TheBendit@reddit
Please please let them be real keys this time and not weird macros
PocketStationMonk@reddit
This is useful! Easier to spot laptops which to not buy.
