How big (sqft) and old is your home and how noisy is it?

Is it peaceful? Can you hear every word other people say in the the room directly under you or even the floor below you on the opposite side of house? Are there insufferably loud noises that constantly bother you throughout the day or even regularly stop you from sleeping (possibly forcing you to sleep in another bedroom)?

I use SI. I don’t know my home in sqft. 125 sqm and 5y old. Insulated newly built. I just don’t like, that we can hear every steps from upstairs , and inner walls are not bricks. I also miss the roller shutters on the Windows which can also block winds from outside ( because these Windows have ventillation parts on the top , and even that is closed, I can hear the breeze comes through)

Just shy of 200 years old as it was built late 1820s.
Also for sale if you want to buy it 🤣

890sq ft, mid-terrace, 1980s 3-bed. During the day I don't really hear my neighbours, but at night when it's quieter I can sometimes here the washing machine from one side quietly through the wall, or the TV the other side (he seems to have it quite loud).
When I first moved in, I heard the TV/music after 10pm. It's quiet enough that I could sleep through it, but it annoyed me because it felt anti-social at that time, and the feeling of that annoyance was more likely to keep me awake. So I knocked on his door and explained that it travelled through the wall.
I knew the previous owner was an elderly woman so I phrased it as "I assume she was hard of hearing and couldn't hear your TV/music, but I think your TV is right behind my bed so it comes through the wall. Sorry, you probably had no idea if you've been playing it loudly for years, but I wanted to let you know before it becomes an issue!"
I usually go to bed early (9/9:30 most nights) and I barely hear it now, and if I do I'm very aware that he turns it off/down around 10pm now.

My last house was a 1930s 2 bed terrace and the walls were so thin it's almost hard to comprehend. I could hear the kettle boiling nextdoor, so basically everyone might as well be sharing a house, you just can't see each other

1955 semi, originally 3 bed but had loft converted to make 4 bed, not sure on sq ft. Sound carries a little bit but not to a particularly annoying degree, if someone is talking in an adjacent room you can often hear that they're talking, but not what they're saying.
Certain sounds seem to carry more than others, our next door neighbour seems to have a tumble drier or something that makes a low rumble that travels through the wall and really bugs me, although I'm neurodivergent so it might just be me being oversensitive!

Victorian Tyneside flat (upstairs), about 800 sqft. Voices from downstairs are more of a low mumbling for the most part, and I can't make out individual words. But things like the TV or the dog barking are very audible. The snoring pisses me off, but then it's astoundingly loud snoring. I use earplugs sometimes for that reason.
I hear next door's voices clear as a bell. They have wooden floors with no rugs, and they use their outdoor voices indoors.
It's not awful because none of my neighbours are scrotes, but it's definitely not peaceful.

1890 - can hear very little from neighbours, we are very well insulated, warm in the winter, cool in the summer..
Medical-Fox2471@reddit
1955 it has been extended so bigger than the original floor plan
1200 sq ft
UniquePotato@reddit
Around 1300sqft about 16 years old. Can hear footsteps from floor above and just about when the neighbours have the vacuum cleaner going

600'ish. 90s. But detached.
Can't hear shit. Most of the time. Exceptions for the charvas garden parties and on occasion, the Boomers telephone ring on an exceptionally quiet day.
Windows/vents open it is a little different. Then can hear a lot more car doors. Kids playing. Music from further afield.

Internally, no noise. Nice and quiet despite the house being full of people. No noise from the neighbours either.
Sound from the outside is also OK provided the windows are closed. But on warm days, when the windows are open we have to put up with the twat across the road who uses the fine weather to get all his power tools out and play with them. I dont know why he does this, I have never seen him actually build or make anything. I guess he just likes the noise they make.

Upstairs flat with neighbours on both sides plus below.
Built between 1950 and 1966
I can hear some noises (toilet flushing) but mainly from just one neighbour who has a mirror-layout to me so we share the wall between our living rooms.
I can occasionally hear noises from my downstairs and other (same level but opposite side) neighbour.
However, we are all generally not horrendous neighbours to each other. It's nice and quiet, for the most part.

Lol built in mid 1990's and it's 670 odd feet. It's tiny. You hear everything.
Spottyjamie@reddit
1435sqft detached 5yr old new build, generally quiet but its on a corner where some residents see the 20mph as an advisory so sometimes hear cars
Previous house was 965sqft semi on same estate and you barely heard a thing including on bonfire night

I get by on approx 4 - 5 hrs sleep. The noise is horrendous. I have to listen to mosque sermons til 3am. When i finally fall asleep they start banging on the walls and arguing early morning to repeat it the following evening. There is no escape i can hear it in every room in the house. We don't bother using the sitting room as a family anyone as you can neither watch tv nor hold a conversation or concentrate on a book due to the noise. Can't complain either as no one will touch it for fear of being branded racist.

Early 1800s cottage. The external walls are about a metre thick, and it's not grade listed, so we have reasonably modern double glazed windows.
We rarely hear anything from outside.
The floorboards for the 2nd floor are quite thin however, so you can usually hear someone walking around upstairs from the room below..
I've been thinking about putting some insulation under the floorboards, but I'd need some serious motivation to do so, lol.
And no idea about the square ft, it's not something I'd usually use to quantify the size of the house 🤷♂️

1930s, 64 m2 (not sure what that is in feet), link terraced (joined at the top on both sides but only on one at the bottom due to passage between).
Barely hear any noises. The neighbour that is joined on top and bottom is elderly. Sometimes when I can’t sleep I can hear their chiming clock very softly. Occasionally radio or TV but nothing obnoxious. Other neighbour has 2 youngish kids (7 and 10) but isn’t joined below, and on the top we have stairwell and above-stair closet between us and the only room that joins is my daughter’s bedroom, which joins their stairs/landing. Sometimes we hear them going up and down the stairs and sometimes we hear their dogs. And rooster out the back lol. But nothing bad or antisocial.
I have great neighbours - they are brilliant and long may they stay!

1300sqft. No thank god, I’m such a sensitive sleeper. Had to purchase detached too, every shared wall with a neighbour woke me and my husband up through the night consistently for years.
iffyClyro@reddit
It’s an old cottage. Can’t really hear anything through the walls.
